It's about time la did something big. Hopefully it will help our economy and make la even better.
Just a beautiful tower, indeed...I wish it would rise to the 1,250 ft allowed...although I love San Francisco, their new Transbay tower at 1,080 ft. looks like a giant pens in the sky, kinda fitting in retrospect! I love Los Angeles and the Wilshire Grand Tower is just a more lovely tower...can't wait until it opens, all 1,100 ft of it!!!
I hate that they had the opportunity to make a true LA landmark but instead decide to make the Wilshire Grand just a few feet taller than the US Bank tower. They played it more than safe. The design isn't very unique either but it is pretty
So sad for US Bank Tower :( (The tallest from 1989 to 2017)
Bernardo Cipriani its still the tallest
@@epiccreator9372 yea this one only taller for the pole that’s cheating
@@stjzzy5994 yes indeed
L.A. is booming. They have at least 10 skysraper coming up. Metropolis (3 tower and one smaler building), Figero Central (3 tower), Wilshire Grand, Onni Tower and so on. They got billions in Chinese investments and according to real estate and global market watchers, it may also just be the start of a flood of cash from China.
After 6 years of your comment I'll remind you again that you were right
Fucking finally L.A gets a Tower! I hope they build more towers all over so it can get that New York Look -.-
Why mimic NYC? Our look is unique. We got a skyline complemented by a natural Hollywood backdrop. NYC had to build its mountains, L.A doesn't have that problem.
***** L.A is bigger in area and is spread out, unlike New York City, and thus does not need to build up... yet. Tokyo has stronger and more frequent quakes than L.A and have multiple skyscrapers. Quakes are not preventing skyscrapers from going up.
Palm Desert has the best skyline with its beautiful mountains
Beautiful it will look pretty nice, much better than old hotel.. It awesome amazing building of new Wilshire Grand Center... I can't wait to see what it will look like..
Looks good.
It's time we actually start building things again.
We haven't had a real modern skyscraper for quite a number of years... Was the last supertall the California Plaza.
K 9501 All those Skyscrapers in la look modern and are built in the 1990's
Let's hope it breaks ground this year! The demolition of the old hotel looks to be going at a pretty fast pace. It'll be gone in a month or two
It's only "taller" than the US Bank tower because of the antenna... the actual top of the building is significantly lower.
Actually, the official height is 1,100 feet to the top of the spire (that's what they announced last month) and has the same amount of floors as the US Bank Tower (73). There is some open space but the majority of the floors are for hotel rooms which make them shorter. On the other hand, US Bank is all office so the floors are taller.
Its not an antenna ppl its a spire.. Theres a difference.
It needs to be higher ! At that heights it looks short +stout , it doesn't blend in well with the skyline.
+Jeff Anderli I completely agree! They should have topped out the highest habitable floor at 1100 ft., not at the tip of an ornamental spire. The U.S.Bank building is pretty awesome, but they should have designed this one to be much taller. The same thing is happening in San Francisco. Our Salesforce (barf) Tower will be 1,070 feet. It was first designed to be 1,700 feet but everybody got all pissy about the winter shadow it will cast. At the 1,070 height, the highest floors are for ornamental purposes. It's only 66 stories, but those are 10 foot stories floor to ceiling. The rest is eye candy. Why doesn't the U.S. have any super-tall's anymore?
the only good thing about being shorter is that it fits in better with the surrounding ones
but i dont understand how ours can have more floors yet yours is taller
Salesfarce will have 10 foot floor to ceiling windows. The Wilshire Grande has shorter floors, probably 7 to 8 feet, so they can load on more stories. Its all in the height of the floors.
bummer. at least we can claim Salesforce is in California. we used to do that with the 49ers
Piglatinsuperstar HAH! Yep! We used to do that. with the 49'ers. Not any more.
We need a 1500 foot building
This is a vast improvement over that blocky, hideous monstrosity it replace. Wilshire Grand Center is absolutely beautiful.
Vwjl1207 There is a certain nostalgia to the old building, but keeping the name is a nice homage to the history of the land.
Beautiful.... It's breaking ground!!! Yay
hahaha lego land , Wilshire Blvd. Tower East of Los Angeles County about 112 floors , glass all around the diameter of the building , a lot of activities , good for the city and aquntiance , ideas , movies #momentum
Where is all the water coming from?
I have a question does this building reach the clouds?
I'm from Los angles
On the top
They cant add a spire to the us bank tower because it has a helicopter landing pad
When does it open?! :^)--
It open in 2017
oh.. do you know how much bigger this skyscraper is gonna be than the us bank tower??
BEAUTIFUL -3333 (':
antennas don't mean nothing, which is why the bank tower will have the lead anyways.
what I think is that the wilsher grand tower shouldn't be the tallest building in LA because the us bank tower was the tallest building since 1983 and it suits the skyline of L.A. the wilsher grand tower has a spire to make it taller if u take that off it won't be taller.
+Gordon Jest r.i.p U.S bank
i wish this building would at least top the 1100 ft to the roof n another 100ft to the spire total 1200 ft! is that too much to ask n im speaking for all those who wana taller iconic building and really call it the TALLEST tower in the west coast......thanka !
The is bank tower my favorite building of all will still be a true i mean a true landmark because people say that building is king of la true because don't you see it has a crown and is 1018ft the build would still look taller just with out a spire.
yes!!!
Spire*
It looks like the Bank of America Center in Midtown Manhattan.
***** You just may want to get your eyes checked. ;)
***** If you were to do a side-by-side comparison, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
I wish they would have preserved and adaptively reused the mid-century landmark Wilshire Grand Hotel (formerly the Statler Hilton and Omni Los Angeles Hotel) that occupied this site. The new tower is just another glass monstrosity that looks more suitable for a place like Shanghai, not Los Angeles.
But still no madder how out placed it looks, It will be nice to have a new Skyscraper in Los Angeles.
It would've cost too much to renovate the old building, and the architecture was nothing special.. it was outdated and needed to go. Better to replace it with a modern skyscraper.
Quit living in the past. The old hotel was an eyesore.
+HipHopLover93 R&BLover93 And a glass behemoth that looks exactly like a tower in Vietnam is not? The old Statler Hotel was not the most visually alluring example of mid-century architecture, but was, undoubtedly, a Los Angeles cultural landmark, ripe for adaptive reuse, and a helluva a lot better than the glassy mediocrity that is replacing it. Let's face it: you only like this blot because of its size, nothing else.
the old hotel was dead. I had been in and out of the building since the early 80s until 2010 and that place was going nowhere
it is better suited for something with more potential
personally, i think the buidling's a little strange but it has its good points
it sticks out like a soar thumb. it doesn't mesh well with the other buildings.
Adrian Then why not build more!
It doesnt including great between 1990th year skyscrapers...
not if an earthquake 9.6 or higher knocks it down not all buildings can sevive an earthquake so la will get hit with a big one day
David Edwards A 9.6+ is highly unlikely, but hey, Angelinos have survived traffic, we can survive a mega quake.
Building is beautiful, but the spire is just a gimmick to claim the title of "tallest" building in L.A.. Bank Tower will still be tallest. Think of it like this: If a person measures 173cm would adding a 20cm top hat, an ornamental accessory like the spire, increase the person's true height?
Let’s just be happy that we got another but building. Although, we need to go bigger
This is not the tallest building. It has the highest tower. Come on, adding a point to a building is like a short man with the tall hat claiming to be taller.
???
I don't count that antenna as being tall, the salesforce tower in SF is taller in my books. You can't live or work at the tip of an antenna, you'll get stabbed through your buthole. It's about time they give SF a tall building title, LA always tryna win against SF, even if building a needle to make them look taller becomes part of the game.
the tallest building in SF is 47 floors the Wilshire grand is going to be 77floors
Please stop. It's you Bay Area folks that always think it's some sort of competition with anything related to Los Angeles/Southern California. We're not even thinking of you guys down here.
+HipHopR&BLover Jon you always.think of us and we never think of sf ha
+TacosLocoZz Gaming U.S Bank is the best.
