How To Install the Wolo Bad Boy Air Horn
Video Transcription:
John: Hey guys, John, here with RealTruck.com. Today I'm going to show you
how to install this Wolo electric air horn onto a Dodge Ram truck. Okay, guys. We all know how our factory horns sound, something like this. [hornsounds] But we kind of want something a little bit cooler on our Dodge truck. So that's why we're going to put that Wolo Bad Boy electric air horn onto this truck. Then when we get done, we'll let you see what it sounds like.
The first step of replacing any factory horn is to get it out of the
vehicle. I've gone ahead and taken this one out so you can see what's going on because it's buried deep in this fender. They're not all in the same location. You'll have to track down the location of where yours is. So once we've got this out, what we want to do is go ahead and unplug it. That way we can use the factory installed horn wiring which will allow us to continue to use our horn button on our steering wheel.
What we need to do with our factory wires because we're going to use the factory horn button is go ahead and cut these ends off. Then we'll need to crimp on some of these spade style connectors onto our wire. The reason why we need to do that is because our new horn system has these spade ends on it for negative and positive. We need to have something other than the original wire clips which obviously don't fit.
Now depending on what make and model of vehicle you have, yours may have a style like that or it may not. We're going to go ahead and snip these wires off of here. In this instance, because we're not going to have enough space in between these, what we're going to have to do is we're going to have to strip this back a little bit to give us some room to open these up where it'll go into our new horn a little bit better.
Once you get those apart, give yourself a little bit more room and where to work with, go ahead and strip those back. We'll attach the spade connector which you can get at just about any hardware store or your local automotive store. You can see these . . . they call them factory fender plugs or something along those lines. What we're going to do is we're just going to pop that out. There will be a hole there where we can fit our new horn perfectly right in there with the bolt that it comes with for mounting.Right now we're going to go ahead and hook this up.
Now if you look down inside here, you can see that these are marked plus and minus. Of course, your black is going to be your minus or your ground, in this case. So we're going to make sure we plug that one into the corresponding connection spot. The other one will go onto our positive side.
So what we want to do is go ahead and pull this body plug out of here. Don't worry about it if you accidentally cut it off or whatever because you're not going to reuse it anyway. This is the mounting bracket for our horn right here. We're going to go ahead and slide that up underneath there and put our bolt through. Once we have that in place we can go ahead and finish bolting it up. Not keep in mind you don't need to over tighten that because it's not going anywhere. We've got it wired up. We've got it bolted up. Let's go push the button and see how this thing sounds.
Okay, guys, there you have it. That's all it takes to install that Wolo electric powered air horn onto your car or truck. So until next time, happy motoring. 866-554-0581 Free shipping for orders over $100! Хобби
Yup saved me some cash on one of these types of horns!
Factory horn: 0:20
Aftermarket Horn: 3:53
Thanks bro
I would have installed some rubber or silicone washers in between the body and horn hardware. But first I would have found a better horn to start with.
The factory horn sounds better
Yeah, I agree. I think you need the separate Wolo tank and compressor and one of the big Wolo horns to make a difference.
Agreed
Neighbor has one and it's no louder than anything else
Yea it did. This horn would be an improvement on a Corolla or something similar.
Figures. It’s Harbor Freight junk
3:50 your welcome...
I put this horn on my boat. Tucked neatly underneath the radar dome 3/4 of the way up the mast. Extremely effective in clearing seagulls from the deck.
Glad to hear you found a good reason to use it on your boat, hahaha!
Wow, that sounds terrible
Idk if it's any different for a big truck, but I got one on my motorcycle. Way diff, really gets attention when needed.
the horn has a 30A relay which gives it more power so I was told makes it louder
@@2017_Elantra that’s like saying switching a 15A fuse to a 20A fuse will give your equipment more power. It’s a logical fallacy. The amperage rating is simply how much it can flow before overheating and melting/letting the magic smoke out.
Hi! Do you know if its easy to do in a Nissasn Qasqhai 2018? Thanks
Thanks John.
Thanks for the informative video. Seems the horn in the video is located deep within the engine bay. Won't I lose a good amount of decibels through the engine, hood, walls, etc. compared to installing it behind the grille?
The reason I ask is because I couldn't find enough space in front of my vehicle (2000 CR-V) and might install the unit the same way as you did. But if the sound will be weaker, I might just get more compact disc horns up front.
Thats the sound of a "Bad Boy Horn"? Thats it? I was expecting some deafening diesel train sound. LOL!
I tried installing this horn on my Chevy Sonic but it kept blowing the fuse. The car only single stock horn (low tone only) so it sounds pretty whimpy. If I wanted my wolo bad boy to stop blowing the fuse, would I have to wire in a relay and connect it to the positive battery terminal like the diagram that came with the horn says?
great job...I bought one for my ATV...likes it so much I bought one for my 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser.... I think the sound is awesome!!!!
Very cool Ramsey! I never thought of it on a ATV. Thats a great idea!
Do you have instructions for installation on a 2006 Subaru Outback? Please reply.
Nice Horn!!!
I just bought one and it came with a relay?
Thanks
The factory horn is really good
I have a 2018 Kia forte do I need to use the relay if I'm hooking it up to my original wires or is the relay only if I don't plan on using the factory horn button?
Nick Balassone: If you are adding this Wolo Bad Boy Air Horn to your factory horn, then yes you would need a relay.
Wish you would've done the install on a Chevy, but hopefully this helps enough.
hey quick question; my car has one wire. do i just plug that to the + and the - to the ground? (honda civic 94)
As far as wiring this up we are unable to give any wiring advice. You would need to contact the manufacturer for any further information.
I installed it on my Hyundai Elantra and I only hear one sound of horn working wonder what the problem is could I have hooked my wires up wrong or is the horn defective
Does this horn get the attention of those who are texting and drifting into the space in front of you on the road? That is all I really need in a horn for, and does having two of these horns make a louder sound?. I dont have room for an air tank or compressor under the trunk.
What about the relay
What do you have to do if your factory horn doesn't work and just want to wire a button on your dash? It's my beater car I drive to work so it don't have to be fancy.
It really just comes down to how you want to mount it. There are a variety of different ways that you could run this horn. I would recommend taking it to an audio shop and they can hook everything up for you.
if my trucks two horns have two sets of wires, which should i add the new spade connectors to for the new horn?
MrCjsartwell whichever horn you are removing use those wires. If you are removing both and only adding the one horn back just leave the second set unplugged. If you have any other questions about this or would like more info on this item or any of the other 500000 plus accessories we sell and would like to speak to a person directly feel free to contact our knowledgeable Customer Service folks at 877-216-5446
RealTruck.com Thanks guys! Another question I have is will the one horn be getting enough power to function to its fullest abilities? And would it be possible to run one wolo on each power source for the low tone and high tone horns?
MrCjsartwell Yes and Yes. That will actually create a pretty unique sound.
For being a, "Bad Boy" horn, it sounds so weak.
I installed a new horn, added it to the stock one on my motorcycle. When I honk it beeps once, even if I keep holding the button. Won't beep again until I turn ignition off then back on, then it beeps once again. What did I do wrong? Or is it defective? When I remove it and put the stock horn back alone, stock horn works normal.
There may be something up with the wiring or the product itself. I would contact Wolo and see if they can troubleshoot the product for you.
This horn is literally not the best for a truck, but i have one in my 1992 Paseo and oh men. You gotta see the peoples faces on traffic when they see is my car that sounds like that. Is really funny and at the moment i think is the one I’m gonna use for a long time.
The horn works but, when I use my key fab to lock the truck the horn is very weak and sounds like a squeal. Any ideas?
Weird! Could be a wiring issue. You'd be better off contacting Wolo direct becasue they'll have the best technical knowledge for this sort of question. wolo-usa.com/air.htm
Is the relay needed when installing on a car, or is the relay for motorcycles?
+RETUSAF1995 The relay is only needed if the vehicle (whatever it is) doesn't have a factory installed horn. Vehicles that come with horns already have relays.
without the relay you will fry the horn switch eventually, best to fit relay on a bike.
do i really need to install a relay on it? or no need for honda civic
thanks
Hi Marc, We have always had the best luck into installing it with our factory horn wires.
RealTruck.com hey guys can i wire two of the big bad max on my car please helpp like replace the two stock ones and replace with two big bad max
Marc Ralan Manahan the reason you want a relay is so it doesn't blow the stock fuse
why did you not use the relay? I lost the manual, how do you wire the relay? thanks in advance

Put the new horns in front of the radiator so the sound goes out the front, not into the cabin. Mounting the new horns on the engine bay firewall shields the sound from going out the front of the vehicle. Sort of self defeating, eh?
RealTruck.com hey guys can i wire two of the big bad max on my car please helpp like replace the two stock ones and replace with two big bad max
I'm sure there is a way to accomplish this but I do not know the best way to go about it. The best option would be to contact a local shop so that they can figure out the wiring for you.
I’d rather buy a pop tart.
Honestly I thought the factory horn was a little louder and tidbit higher pitch but overall basically the same. I could see if you're installing it on a ATV ,motorcycle or something other than a four-wheeled vehicle. On my sportbike half the time I don't even hit the horn I just rev it way up at the butthole that pissed me off and let my Yoshimura do the talking sounds way better than my sissy horn it's the difference between a mouse yelling f--- you or Barry Manilow
Should have went ahead and installed the cool new dodge heated bumpers
They should have made the guy on the box with skinny arms. Lol
it took longer to get to the horn than it did to install it....2 Will sound good..
Mike V cool! Hope you enjoy that "Bad Boy". If you have any questions on this or any of the other over 500000 accessories that we sell feel free to contact one of our awesome Customer Service peeps at 877-216-5446
No relay?!
My little cars horn is deeper than both of those. Ford horns are genuinely deep.
THE FACTORY HORNS SOUND BETTER I AGREE!

the factory sounds way better
Woo Loo? 😂
Which model horn is this?
Looks like its part number 419
RealTruck.com
Did he say - Woo-Loo?
No need for a new fuse or relay eh?
If he's using the factory wires, they're already fused in the fuse box.
are you sure about the pronunciation? WooLoo....doesnt' seem right I was thinking Woh-Loh
My wolo horn only honks for a second and only honks when the car is off or stopped. Is that because it's not getting enough power?
Dillon Sims no. It sounds like a wiring issue. Double check your power and grounds and see if there is a problem there. Do you have it wired into your wire for your factory horn? try hooking the factory one back in and see if it works. You could have a bad horn relay. If you have any more questions about this or any of the other 500000 plus accessories we sell feel free to contact our knowledgeable Customer Service folks at 877-216-5446
got it taken care of. It wasn't getting enough power so we wired it to a separate switch.
Probably a wiring fault, check the wirig diagram against your wiring install. It might help to increase the wiring size to either 14 or12 gauge to get the proper current to the compressor, and do not forget to use the relay!
Good install job but that horn is not great.
Thanks! It sounds better in person! www.realtruck.com/wolo-bad-boy-air-horn/
not very loud
Good install video. Weak horn... I just ordered the Marco Hurricane Air Horn, it better not sound like that.
I really don’t hear much of a difference between the two.
The original horn sounds louder
forgot the relay
+Nick Jabour The relay is only needed if the vehicle (whatever it is) doesn't have a factory installed horn. Vehicles that come with horns already have relays
No no really i got a truck here that has no relay yet has a fuse
+Nick Jabour here is an excellent diagram of how to wire a horn relay. It is pretty simple:

Factory horn was louder, fail...
Need a relay to make it work properly. Not to smart
ORIGINAL WAS LOUDER !!!
