@@veganpotterthevegan ITU does 1min 30 seconds clips of their races That’s great if you just want a snapshot. But also good to have the full race on replay for smart trainer and treadmill sets.

Notice his asymmetric kick. Big splash when he recovers his left arm with flat shoulders, wide straight arm. His kick is necessary to reduce fishtailing.
Yeah he strokes then does one big asymmetrical kick. I was also surprised to see him breathe so much
From the aft view, Lionel crosses his centerline with his left arm and creates a lot of drag with his left side. He could self-diagnose this during the swim event: skip a breath, keep your face in the water, use your upper peripheral vision and see where your hand is entering the water. Usually you would strive to direct your eyes/vision to the bottom of the pool to maintain a more horizontal position in the water. It could be that Lionel knows this stuff, but during the excitement of racing, he spaces out and reverts to his old habits. Looking at his swims in this video, he’s got some work to do.
His technique is actually not that bad. Check out gregorio paltrinieri doesnt look so different from him. He carries too much non swim specific muscle and lacks swim specific strength.
@@bobdillen5641 It looks like the problems in Lionel’s freestyle stroke stem from a lack of flexibility (shoulders and overall) and not relaxing in the water. This stiffness contributes to that wide arm recovery, which causes a lot of drag as he turns slightly sideways in the water (“yaw” if you are looking from a vertical perspective). Lionel can fix this by rotating along his longitudinal axis, also called “rolling”, but he has to be certain to keep his head in proper alignment, looking at the bottom of the pool.

He is not the only long distant triathlete that participated in arena games, lucy charles barkley did and it was a fair coverage
Plenty of free time to be had for Lionel if he just works on his skills on and off the wall. His bike is incredible.

Why are there no spectators
It is almost a waste of time showing 32 minutes of Lionel working his heart out and then not have any on screen data to show where he is in the race at all. Thankfully the commentators do mention some data now and again but nowhere near enough.

He did far better than I was expecting; bravo! The footage would be so much better with a screen - in - screen of Zwift at the same time though, and sorry but Tim Don is just a dreadful commentator.
Commentary was super weak. I watched because I’m into triathlon. It would be nice to see some numbers on the screen about pace distance cadence power. The commentators were giving wrong numbers. It would’ve been nice to have the distances of s,b,r. Please provide in the show notes. I had to listen hard to try and figure it out. if you’re trying to get people interested in a new format put in a little more effort.
Will somebody please make a tri format based on a set time for each discipline - have a world class swimmer swim for 30 minutes world-class cyclist cycle for 30 minutes world-class runner 30 minutes and whatever those distances are is the new standard. I don’t care what the amount of time is. It could be one hour or three hours. This way swimmers don’t get the shaft. You could reverse the order put the swimming last.
running without road, cycling without wheel, next will be swimming without watter, skydiving without parachut. Idiocy !

I just can't understand why he is unable to swim, if you look at his technique it's almost like a beginner. Of course he has the strength but the technique is very poor..and this is his job, you have to get it right

I'm sorry ...you just cant be that far back after a few strokes. That shows you just havent done your homework on starts/streamline/breathwork as a professional. That has nothing to do with swim ability or endurance.
How in the world could this sport EVER draw an audience without some sort of visual representation of the competitors during the race? Watching people run on a treadmill? Silly.
