Loot Goblin Marketplace is about showing you solid D&D advice that will help you break all these players used to having Baldur's Gate 3 be their DM. Remember, if the players call you out for railroading their actions, they're just upset they didn't think of it first!
The reason that I'm DM in the first place is because I am the smartest and the most handsome, so it is only fair that I have more smarter ideas.
@@lootgoblinmarketplaceThis is objectively true
And remember, when your players stop playing with you it's not because they find you annoying and spiteful. They're just jealous of your brilliance and you need to play with peers more on your level.
I’m sure they’ll be back any minute!
great video! one tip that i've found pretty handy is to make sure the room you're playing in has no exits. sometimes my players are so impressed by my storytelling that they get the urge to leave the room, but reminding them that i barricaded all of the doors and windows encourages them to stay at the table. this might be a little harder to pull off in a public setting, but i usually find a work around
I have found that kidnapping their loved ones and holding them hostage until the story is complete complements this trick really well.
That is great advice, I keep running into a similar problem.
@sciencetube4574 you Aldo need large quantities of a strong base nearby, because acids are hard to get
It's not April 1st when this was released, so this is actual advice.
It’s always real advice, just really bad advice!
@@lootgoblinmarketplacebad
Brilliant and duper
My DM keeps reminding me and the rest of the party that there’s an active pipe bomb under the table and any action other than the preordained path will trigger it and I think it’s effective and fair
He sounds like a veteran! How long has he been playing D&D to master this effective technique?
@@lootgoblinmarketplace This is his first time in a while because he just got out of prison after his last session went… awry
I know we said that last time too, but my guy really snapped after reading too many D&D horror stories
(Last time ; How to win D&D)
I felt bad for the DM in the last video so I had to give them a fighting chance!
The last one should have been deus ex machina. You could kill players in their sleep, by assassination, or even by a god. You can then use that god in case of your dmpc nearly dying by the players
That was method #3, you must have missed it!
Instructions unclear, my players killed god and a god inside that god.
You’re facing some pretty professional gamers there, you may have to bring in backup
Remember, it's all about FUN.
Flattening. Utter. Noobs.
That the type of fun that I can get behind
"HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO TEACH YOU THIS LESSON OLD MAN!"
* Spongebob meme *
I'm crying. Tears are running down my face. My family thinks something is wrong with me. I can't tell them. I DM for 2 of them. 🤣
My railroad has many offramps and onramps ... for every action the players take, every sidequest they fall into, there's two or three more plot hooks to get them back into the main story.
PS, just remember that all you really need for a great D&D campaign is a unifying goal, and the easiest way to create one is with an overarching villain screwing the party in some way.
Hey, we are 8 months from April.
So im glad we can take this with 100% seriousness, seriously.
nice.
I plan on dropping more serious advice each month
@@lootgoblinmarketplace It was a fun watch though. Look forward to the 101% serious advice though.
Honestly for April 1st, I might just give some good advice to really throw people off.
To avoid a bad, controlling dungeon master, you must vecome th bad, controlling dungeon master. After all, the story is more important then improv and having a good time.
Also you forgot a rule. The illusion of free choice. Fork in the road? The'll lead to the same place anyways.
If you make the final boss a master illusionist, you can have the illusion of choice both in and out of the game!
For the last bit, you want to put tons of signage saying the building they are going into is condemned so they can’t blame you when the roof caves in. The signs are there for a reason.
True, that way you can really flame them!
Took me a bit to realize what was happening
If a DM disrespects your agency, put them out of your misery.
Every table just needs a little bit of mutually assured destruction 🤣
From the same RUclipsr that brought "How to be 'That guy' in 5 easy steps". Comes "How to be 'That DM' on 6 easy steps"!
Thanks! I'm a pretty new DM and this list helps a lot!
Thanks for the guide I was always wondering how to do this 😊
The key is to remember that you are the god of their characters universe and you are well within your right to smite them!
All jokes asside; DM's, linear storytelling can be good and just as fun as a sandbox game. just because you want your players to do something and try to push them towards it a little doesn't always mean railroading. The game should be fun. As long as you're not an A**hole who thinks your story is better and your pc's are enjoying the session, that's what matters.
Additionally, PC's, communication is important and no 2 games are the same; sometimes they're completely different. Talk to your DM if you've got any queries and test the waters before jumping in full force. (On that, also make sure your DM isn’t an A$$)
Have fun y'all! ❤
People who actually think like this would freak out over an Oldschool D&D Emergent Sandbox.
Railroading is a good idea at some points, but it definitely requires a certain type of party to be done in a way that isn’t unfun for them
Remember to have all boss battles end in a stalemate where someone else who is more powerful and stronger than the player step in to deal with the boss
That way the player never feels they've achieved anything
Ha yes, the MMO final boss method. Have a 40 man raid and when you finally think you killed the villain some cutscene happens and some named hero takes all the glory.
I often find that retconns should be used if it's either:
A) Extremely early enough in the story where the narrative wouldn't be irreparably damaged all because a player wasn't sure what they wanted to do for their character.
Or B) You made a critical error in YOUR story as a narrator, and something plot critical got left out either due to sheer ignorance or just not paying attention.
Ideally, these solutions should not impact the characters and their agency to fend for themselves. You can rework the paladins super awesome sword if you feel it excedes the power level of everyone else, but don't just take it without proper compensation. Player characters are still people at the end of the day, and a fun time always triumphs a consistent plot. Nothing is stopping you from doing both.
Yeah I think that retcons can work if it’s something you are very honest with to your players!
Most people will be understanding if you meet them half way because they want it to make sense to the story too. Maybe they can’t have exactly what they expected but they can get something close or sometimes something that is even better!
most based dnd video
Thanks, I’m just trying to help these poor DMs.
Remember if all your players leave, you can always add more DMPCs, they are way better than the moron PCs anyways
Man that sucks! he didn't even do anything wrong! iv heard the song and it was completely harmless. iv seen tons of content creators sing that song. jeez those people threatening his family and partner should be locked up in prison. or grounded from there computer for like 5years or until they learn some god damned self-control and behave themselves online. I like jocats content and his heart of elynthi campaign and i would listen to it go on in the background while I draw when I had the time and energy. I hope he doesn't take down his videos from his youtube channel but if he does to protect his family and loved ones then I totally understand. ill be playing baldurs gate 3 today and should I reach a tavern ill be sure to raise a mug of ale to him. whatever he's doing now I hope he's having fun with his friends and loved ones and I hope he had a good christmas and a happy newyear. best wish's to the guy! and best wish's to you too loot-goblin!
also p.s: its my first time watching one of your videos unfortunate this is the first video i watched cause of the terrible news. but i notice you do rpg horror stories which conveniently I love watching videos like that and I also love goblins! (fun fact: im actually gonna be playing a goblin pirate in my 2nd playthrough of Bg3 using mods haha!) So ill definitely be watching them and already clicked the subscribe button! also your goblin character looks cool! I like his softly expressed red eyes. he looks like a friendly fellah! I also like his hood. looks cool on him! ^w^
My DM keeps reminding me and the rest of the party that there’s an active pipe bomb under the table and any action other than the preordained path will trigger it and I think it’s effective and fair
