  • Over the years. I have used many different types of gear to help keep me toasty warm during the cold winter months. These two pieces of gear are very inexpensive, and I guarantee to help you stay warm. So you will be able to enjoy the great outdoors. Even when the temperatures drop below your comfort level.

Being a old timer 70 yrs my uncle 98 would tell me stories about the Michigan lumber days that the lumber jacks would take a pair of wool socks cut out finger holes to do the same job as your idea. A pair of socks sew together for a scarf

I just got a pair of those old wool sock. Than someone in Sweden. Cut to fit over the hands. The ones I have are made of fleece instead of wool. Looking forward to using them. Nothing is better than old school! Thank you YooperDanKulka for watching. Much appreciated.

Great information. All that I can add is that wearing a head covering that covers your forehead, or , if you are bald, your head, prevents you from suffering from headaches.

    Good advice. I haven't come across the wrist doodah's yet .. I suppose if I looked harder .. 😏.
However, Neck Gaiters .. I'm sold! Gloves wrapped in the Gaiter, stuffed into the Beanie and then into a plastic one litre Zip-Loc Bag, forms part of my cold weather carry (if not wearing).
The only time I wear a Scarf (a plain, brown 100% wool one) .. and properly .. doubled, looped in a 'larks head' around the neck and then tucked in, is when I wear my Woollen Top Coat .. the 1930's New York 'Gang Boss' type. That, together with a 'Tilley Wool Winter Hat and walking the little Malti-Poo, I look the part 😁.
I am a firm believer in 'layering' and if the hands and feet are cold, 'put on a hat' (or an extra torso layer .. or get mobile).
Thanks for sharing .. take care ..

Great video, which has got me reevaluating my layering systems again. I like the idea of wrist covers, but personally I find that fingerless gloves with a long wrist cuff paired with a pair of over mittens works for me even down to 20F. Colder than that and I wear full gloves inside my over mittens.

I walk my dog daily year round, about 3 miles a day. I've got a few different neck gaiters for different levels of cold. The lightest is just stretch polyester, there's the double fleece and the wool. I also have a couple extra long and wide scarfs that my wife made me that can be worn similar to a shemagh, around the neck, across the face, over the head. It can be adjusted easily, if the wind stops or picks up.

Yes, keep it all covered with layers. Remember the "Rules of 9" for estimating heat loss from exposed or under-insulated body surface area, The feet still cold, can't add any more socks or insoles? Keep the whole body warm and the feet may follow suit.

At 73, I Nordic Walk daily to stay in shape.
I follow the Mantra 'be bold, start cold' and now into Winter, pre-dawn and temperatures at freezing and below, it can be cold-ish.
I know that I am (my body is) cold when the tips of my little fingers hurt. Normally, after about 5 / 10 minutes on the road, the pain is gone and more than often, the gloves, and later the beanie come off and then we're good to go.
Yep, keep the torso / body core warm and the hands will follow.

@@thomasmusso1147 Overnight camping on the snow may require additional warmth. The hands, head, and neck lose a lot of heat. In snow camping, stay warm from the start.. It's difficult to recover body heat once it is lost.
