An Amazon reviewer suspects that Ocean's brand is Gold Seal brand repackaged for the American market. I just put in an order for Ocean's Juniper and Coriander Smoked Mackerel.
Ocean Brand is printed on the back of the can. Same ingredients (Hot smoked mackerel (mackerel, salt), sunflower oil, juniper berry oil, coriander seed oil) as the Ocean’s Smoked Wild Mackerel Juniper & Coriander
I dont think ive ever seen canned fillets look this clean or composed in the can itself, let alone survive being pulled out intact. Like you said: forget how it tastes, those are simply gorgeous. The skin was immaculate.
Dude, same. I don’t even wanna talk about how I’ve made two fancy tinned fish orders in the last day because of this guy. Good thing I’m single and live alone or I’d probably be offending the fk out of my housemates. 😂
I recently found your channel, and completely went down the rabbit hole. My favorite "Deens" , now that I know that's a thing are King Arthur Sardines in white wine vinegar with capers. Cheers from Maine! Home of the original sardines in mustard state. Go Rayes Mustard. Love your vids, keep em' coming.
@@CannedFishFiles Yeah, it's really good. I have two 12 packs of their smoked mackerel, I love their stuff. Another Canadian homegrown brand that I love that is really sustainable is Scout. I remember you tried their Lobster, but they have a smoked tuna and smoked salmon that are amazing. Another one is a herb dill trout! Not so common, so it was refreshing to try. If you ever have difficulty getting those, give me a shout in the comment here, I could maybe help!
I'm not a gin fan because of the juniper, so the Ocean’s Smoked Wild Mackerel Juniper & Coriander (the same product, different name) was my least favorite of their mackerel. The Ocean's Sweet Smoked is awesome.
Gin & Tonic, soy oil... what's going on? I was waiting for Slow Jabroni to jump out for a while. That is some seriously eye-candy fish there - beautiful colour!
I've seen these at the store up north here eh, and I have been curious. Glad you got your hands on them, and I can't wait to try. I love your channel, and love canned fish beyond belief! Cheers eh
I can't stop eating the Gold Seal Mediterranean mackerel. Highly recommend to mackerel fans. Their sardines were okay but I prefer Club de Millionaires for a Canadian low end sardine. Curiously, the non-smoked flavours say product of Poland. I haven't seen the smoked ones at my grocery store so I'll have to check some others, I really want to try them!
HI Matt Enjoy your videos. Love Sardines but I am really crazy about Mackerel - and this tin looked absolutely scrumptious. Can't wait to hunt some down.
Loves me some mackerel! I have not been all the way through your vids yet, but if you have not tried half-dried dines in oil from the Philippines, let me know and I’ll send some
Hey Matt! do you know of any tinned fish “events” that go on in the city? I’ve heard of other cities having clubs but haven’t heard anything about NYC. Love your videos btw I am finally branching out from sardines because of your content
It looks like Juniper berry oil and coriander oil. Doesn't seem like it has alcohol so the name put me off at first since I don't drink. I don't think it has it but I can't confirm it outside of the ingredients. Best would be to email them, they would probably answer. I love their smoked pepper version and the sunflower oil smoked one is good too
I have friends visiting Canada right now, and I'm actively bribing them to bring some of these home with them as I watch this video. (also, what chopsticks are those? they look delightful!)

Thanks for the tip. I may have to follow up on this. If anybody has any ideas, lmk.

I suspect fishwife is using the same cannery for their new smoked mackerel. Glad Matt tried these first.
@@timwaumansunflower oil 🤮 ruins the whole thing
@@huge_balls Why? Trust me, as heavily smoked as Ocean’s makes these, using a neutral oil is the way to go
WHAT ARE WE EVEN DOIN HERE?
Tasting fishies.
Never thought I'd run across a niche canned fish channel in my life. I binged your videos and immediately went out to buy sardines lol. Subbed.
the next logical step here would be mackerel-flavored tonic water
La Croix where you at?
I dont think ive ever seen canned fillets look this clean or composed in the can itself, let alone survive being pulled out intact.
Like you said: forget how it tastes, those are simply gorgeous. The skin was immaculate.
Best canned fish I've had hands down. The peppered is smokin too.
Gold Seal is my go to living in Ontario. Their 'Mack in olive oil is a big beauty
Agreed, I love the peppered mackerel with scrambled eggs.
MATTY C what is up baby??? 2 uploads in a month we lit. Yeah, yeah, yeah. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
What a joy to see my favorite youtuber post as I sit down at my computer.
Respect, for just finding these things. YOU
know what we're doing here.
Why in the world am I addicted to videos of canned fish?
Dude, same. I don’t even wanna talk about how I’ve made two fancy tinned fish orders in the last day because of this guy. Good thing I’m single and live alone or I’d probably be offending the fk out of my housemates. 😂
every year there's new innovation in the canned fish market. i never thought i would see gin and tonic deenz in my lifetime but here we are

I think "cowabunga" says it all. 🐢 🎉
I love their smoked mackerel, didn't know it was hard to get outside of Canada. It is so worth the extra little cost!
Yeah, and as far as I can tell, on Amazon you had to buy a dozen cans, but it came out to like 4.50 Canadian. So really, a good good deal.

So glad that the Canned Fish Community is alive and well
Awesome!
Juniper with smoked fish? That sounds wonderful, and gives me some ideas.
oh man i get home from a long week and now i can sit and relax with some dines and a new fish files video
life is good
I have a can of these waiting in my cupboard for when I get back home from work in a month. Can't wait.
Odo! What a great name for a cat. Also that fish looks fantastic. I wish I could find mackerel like that in the US.
Odo is a good good boy!
I want a cat and name him/her Deen or deen-a. But have 2 dogs that would eat her faster than me on a can of fish.
I just had a can of Gold Seal Smoked Mackeral in Mediterranean sauce, and it was fantastic!

4 of my favorite things.
4. Tonic
3. Gin
2. Sardines
And…….

Welcome back!
Such a beautiful tin
gonna try it tomorrow. looks delicious.

“Officer, I’m fine! I swear I’ve only had 3 mackerels today.”
5:15 wow you can't just hit me with that nostalgia music.
👀 look good. May have to try. Thanks! 😁
Nice video as always.
What we're doing here is watching the fish master open some juicy tins
I dont know how i got here at the point, but youtube was set to autoplay and binged through over 8 hours of sardine content
Just tried the Gold Seal peppered smoked mackerel, it was fantastic. Quite possibly the best canned fish I’ve ever had. 🤌
I 110% agree
I hate sardines but came across your vids last year. Hasn’t watched since. Randomly remembered you and stoked to see you still posting.
Beautiful filets
Hello from Canada!

I love Odo
and his music

The pepper one is heavenly. Yet to try the gin tonic
I'm going to go buy some right now.
Rather exciting amount of smokeyness
GOD I MISS YOU.
Two pieces!!!... You're not a coroner, you want fish!! 🌝
I am growing my very own sardine stache
Holy Mackerel! Those really look delicious!
Your cat looks exactlyyyy like mine!
I don't like gin, but I love mackerel, and that was one fine looking can of fish!
I had a couple of cans of Gold Seal sardines recently. Not the best, but still pretty good. They were a product of Thailand if I remember right.
Don't lie
I can't remember - have you done a review of Smiling Fish' canned Mackerel?
They are my new favorite canned-fish snacks.
Those look good
NEVER have I eaten some fish and said to myself "man, I really wish this tasted like a stiff cocktail" 😂😂
Looks tasty. But what I want to know...whatever happened to the sardines in sild oil I loved back in the 60s?
you just know matts apartment smells like a wharf 🤣
Looks like something Guga would jazz up 😊
This is the best canned fish based content I've ever watched.
getting faded off the deenz
Would love to see you try the butter sardines.
Fish on dude
Are there any stores in Montreal that have these?
As long as I hear a man say cowabunga I know that they were raised by the same cartoon and so I love them like a brother
hahahahahahahahaha...gin & tonic
drink the juice
you know you want to
Loves me some mackerel! I have not been all the way through your vids yet, but if you have not tried half-dried dines in oil from the Philippines, let me know and I’ll send some
Gin and tonic flavored. Wonder if they have "pink elephant" flavored ???🤔🍾🥃🍸
Cowabunga!
The Fishwife smoked mackerel comes from the exact same cannery in Scotland
What are you doing here? Wait a sec? A product of Scotland? Try Brunswick sardines outta Blacks Harbour New Brunswick! Kippered Are the best 🇨🇦👌🏾
I am also gin and tonic flavored, but I refuse to be canned.
Bro i weirdly love your sardine vids i cant esplain it
I wonder if this would be good for a dirty gin martini as a lil garnish or something 👀👀
Yes pinball. Yes gin and tonic. Yes both 😉 I use skyline hot sauce on my deenz (don't know if yall have skyline up there)
You miss me matty ?

Well this I gotta see

Gin, seltzer, lavender syrup, lemon juice.

Are these the Kinder Eggs of sprats?
Have you ever eaten Mabuti?
Needs a bit of lime
Have you tried surstromming?
You forgot to explain,
Where there from my friend😂

Content: Poison
Deenz content is bussin bussin. Trudeau is not.
It says "poison" in the ingredient list
I'll trade you our handsome prime minister for your Bill of Rights. I swear it's a good deal. Get it while the offers still good.
Should have been alcoholic and carbonated.
contents Poisson? bottom of the ingredients

oh canadians.. with their healthcare and young PM, and the authoritarianism. Way to go canada
Canada isn't sending us our best
They were real good except they were just a bit too salty
GOLD SEAL IS TOP TEIR lmao caps lock
I have friends visiting Canada right now, and I'm actively bribing them to bring some of these home with them as I watch this video.
(also, what chopsticks are those? they look delightful!)
I'm pretty sure they're Snow Peak titanium chopsticks.

Nice April Fool's joke. Right?
