There is a Little Free Library across the street from me. At this Fallen Fruit Project at E.11th and N.Fourth Columbus, Ohio.. Someone just delivered more books and threw them allover the picnic table. There wasno room. The strawberry beds have been partially mulched over and maybe two hundred pounds of concrete and asphalt rubble and one defective Nelsonville Block. Their maintenance man for Wagenbrenners was removing the books. I asked him about the rubble, saying it could be used to break windows.ad that the Nelsonville Block was aimed at me. My father in law owned Nelsonville Block from sometime in the thirties until sometime in the fifties. I asked him to leave the books and herefused, saying they were dirty. Gentrification woes
What a fun way to explore a neighbourhood (or two!). It's amazing to see the different styles of the libraries themselves, and also to see what is in them (and what shape they are in, oh my). Thank you for taking us on the adventure with you!
This was so much fun! I took a look at the map for my zip code and it was a bit sad - there aren't any near me for a good 25 miles, and they are all so spread out that car travel would be necessary. Still, I think my kids would enjoy a little trip to check them out sometime. I have always wanted one on our property but our road isn't terribly safe for that kind of thing!
I loved the production of this video! From my experience, I haven't come across as many unique and well-decorated LFLs before, mostly just a standard box. Nice to see so much care and creativity put into the ones near you! Definitely makes me want to go exploring. I think that would be a great way to get acquainted with a new neighborhood.
I've been away from booktube for quite some time now, and was trying to remember the names of various booktubers...happy to find you again! And that you're still making videos. :) You're known as spreadsheet guy/fun readathon challenges in my brain. haha I love the idea of lil free libraries but had never seen any around me, until a couple years ago one popped up near my house at a small park. Was excited to finally be able to donate some nicer quality books to a fellow reader!
Thank you very much. The community has shifted and changed so much over the years, there are many I miss dearly. I hope the books you gave found a great home in someone's heart.
Oh, I loved this! I didn't know those libraries were an official, registered thing. I assumed random people just put a box up. Maybe I can find the ones in my area! I ran into one by accident, in another neighborhood where I can't even remember where it was now. Then I found another one, a bit closer. I was able to leave a book there once. These were all so creative. Extra points for that dinosaur!
That was surprising to me as well, they even sell kits to set them up. It's nice that they thought to index them all for us to find. Hope you find some great ones in your area.
How in the world had I not seen you in my suggestions/recommendations yet? I only have a couple of these LFLs near me, though I've used the one just up the street from my house about half a dozen times this year (literally 2 minutes from my home, I swing by on my way home from work).
Love love love this so much. I have yet to find a little free library anywhere around me but I haven't checked recently so maybe.....also maybe i should make one!
I love Little Free Libraries. There are a half dozen in my town that I know about, most of them not on the official map. I was thinking about putting one up myself but then one sprouted at a neighbor's house 100 yards away from where I live.
If you did put one up, there'd be double the choice, double the selection. Now I'm curious to know about the undocumented ones. They sound more special, a secret garden quality.
I joined a facebook group and it's amazing how many of them aren't documented on the main database, lots of cottage industry listings. Shame that there's only one so far away from you.
This was such a cool video! I love the concept of Little Free Libraries. I've yet to find any books I'm that interested in in the one near us though. I have found some good children's books though.
This is the first video of yours that I have found, so maybe you have already visited it in another, but there is a LFL in Airdrie that is designed to look like Wall-E. I will definitely be watching more of your videos. Always nice to find fellow Albertans channels :)
Loved this! Also I had no idea I could look up LFL locations. It appears as though there are two in my town! Also love the container art park. Might have to visit Calgary some day if I can leave the east coast 😂
Two is good! I've never been to containR when they've had markets or live events. It's a nice community. Here's hoping travel is possible for everyone in the near-ish future. The desire to see new places is very appealing right now.
I just looked up how many of these are near me and I'm shocked I didn't know about how popular they are in my community. Looks like I have an adventure for my next day off!
Oh that just makes me want to go places, other than the neighborhood and park for walks and runs. *sigh* Your free libraries look much nicer than the ones here. First the ones I know of are bigger and usually stuffed with "typical" bestseller mass market paperbacks for Germany - aka not my type of books. But I cant fault the libraries for not catering to my special needs. Great video!
Thanks Wiebke, I hope you're able to get some walking in during these times. I do wish I could find more books to my liking. I'll have to start leaving stuff I want in them to inspire a shift into genre's I like.
Gotta admit that on the other side of the Atlantic I laughed a lot when you said the buildings in the oldest part of Calgary are over 100 years old. Always makes me laugh to think about how the concept of what constitutes old in North America is very different from Europe.
This video flew by! And that area looks so lovely. But I'm sorry to say your commitment to not worrying about video quality isn't going very well; the production was far too good :)
who in the world would vandalize something that is meant to benefit the community???? Little free libraries are super neat and cute! I would chase the hooligans down if I caught them

Love the art of these free libraries. They bring me such joy. :)
I do like that people take the time to decorate them.
What a fun way to explore a neighbourhood (or two!). It's amazing to see the different styles of the libraries themselves, and also to see what is in them (and what shape they are in, oh my). Thank you for taking us on the adventure with you!
Thanks for coming along. It was very nice to get out.

Aww, that's a shame about the distances.

It's been the only travel I've really done in past few months. Close enough to feel like a vacation. I hope you get the chance to explore.
Loved this style of video. You live in an amazingly beautiful area.
It's a good city. While I'm just a visitor passing through on my way to work it is a nice area. I recently saw a home listed for $1.5 million.
I've been away from booktube for quite some time now, and was trying to remember the names of various booktubers...happy to find you again! And that you're still making videos. :) You're known as spreadsheet guy/fun readathon challenges in my brain. haha

Such a delightful video! I wish we had more of these in my area. Cheers

Great video Brock, fantastic!
Love this vid! I enjoy these types of narratives and you have great shots :)
Thanks Sista! I love your shots! Your videos are so coherent!
This was delightful! Thanks for the tour!
This was a joy to watch, thank you!

Making one would be so cool. I wish the kits they sold didn't cost so much. If I knew more about building things I might try.
This was lovely! And such a good idea, I might have to do it myself!
Happy exploring. If anything it makes for a relaxing walk.

This was such a wonderful video, keep up the good work ☺
Right on! Thank you!
Fantastic video, Brock! There is one LFL in my town (as far as I'm aware). It's not in my neighbourhood, so I don't often think to check it out.
I joined a facebook group and it's amazing how many of them aren't documented on the main database, lots of cottage industry listings. Shame that there's only one so far away from you.

As long as the kids are happy ya know? Yeah, the selection can be so...how should we say...varied?

Nice. I have try to find even more now.
Interesting and amusing as always Brock. I love the idea of little free libraries although they don't exist in the UK sadly.
They don't? I saw Telleroftales take a little tour once...maybe I'm thinking of someone else. That's Ireland anyway.
@@LetsReadSFF Maybe in certain parts of the UK but my area is known for not being good for anything literary related sadly.
Little free libraries are very cute, lots in edmonton as well, but I have never, not once, seen anything worth taking.
Fly guy!! I forgot about that 😁
I've had more luck in the past finding exciting titles. People need to part with books they love, not only the books they don't want anymore.
Ah what a fun and cute video! (also I'm in awe of your Animal Crossing LFL!)
I'm glad that Animal Crossing does a lot to facilitate book lovers.
Oh that just makes me want to go places, other than the neighborhood and park for walks and runs. *sigh*

I would love to have a dinosaur in front of my house

Yes, it's a very strange thing. I'm always amazed at the age of buildings elsewhere. Most our the city as we know it didn't exist until the 60's
Are you allowed to bring your own book to put inside these little libraries?
Many places treat is like a take a penny leave a penny. Some people curate them a little more, it depends on the owner.
😍
This video flew by! And that area looks so lovely. But I'm sorry to say your commitment to not worrying about video quality isn't going very well; the production was far too good :)
Thank you! It's a balancing act.
who in the world would vandalize something that is meant to benefit the community????

I believe it was teenagers who crammed something in and busted the hinges. Disheartening when that happens.
