Because especially around this time, Sanya was basically undefeated in all of the 400m races she ran throughout the season. She was consistently under 50 seconds , and I’m pretty sure she still has the records for most sub 50 times. She ran the 48.70 American record around this time too. There were several races where she beat these same women by meters. So she really was the favorite going into the race. But Christine was always a beast !

This race was an exact replica of the 2005 world championship final in Helsinki Sanya Richards-Ross didn't learn the lessons from that race, she went out far too quickly, ran out of gas in the last 50m and got overhauled by Tonique Williams-Darling who completed the Olympic/World title double. Here she did the same tactics went out too quickly over the first 300m she blasted past Montsho and Kapachinskaya in the first 100 odd meters and paid for it in the home straight. Ohorougu was more evenly paced in comparison she entered the home straight in around about 4th behind Richards-Ross and 2 of the 3 Russians in this race Gashina and Ferova but due to running an even paced race she had more gas in the tank in the last 100m and overhauled the lot to replicate Williams-Darling's Olympic/World title double. To make things worse for Richards-Ross she didn't get the silver due to Shericka Williams who also ran an evenly paced race albeit she was further behind going into the home straight she was about 6th behind all 3 Russians blitzed the last 100m and took the silver.
True. Given the numbers Sanya was running (under 50) she should have more golds than just 2 (1 Olympic and 1 world). Sanya always seemed to choke in finals which is sad. Now in 2024 I know why Sonya the gold favorite in all of her events didn't do well in 2008 Olympics...she did an interview and admitted that she terminated prego a day before she got on the plane to Beijing for the Olympics. No one but her now husband knew about it and she said that she was struggling mentally, emotionally and physically and felt so alone. I'm so happy she was able to come back in London 2012.

She just went off way too fast, nerves caused her to blow it not cramp. Her excuse was a rather sad attempt to rationalize her loss. Christine was always a very strong and smart athelete.
Just 3 missed tests thats all. It was well documented. She was 100% a clean athlete. The whereabouts testing system was in its infancy in 2005 so it was extremely flawed. Thankfully they've made alot of updates to the system so athletes can communicate easier with the testers.

She was being honest, you can see her cramp at 130m and start grimacing at 170m, lucky she survived for a bronze, but at full health she wins gold.
