When I go round headlands I always put a rolled up canoe seat on & carry my kayak paddle. The Centre of Gravity is lower & you can power through the difficult waters until you feel more comfortable to stand up.
Wow, what a fantastic adventure captured in a really honest and engaging manner. Nice one Will! Really enjoyed joining you vicariously on this big, wet, windy, wonderful paddle around a sunny(?!) Balearic island. Keep on exploring, keep the vids coming and keep enjoying paddling! Thanks for sharing this on RUclips.
A trip like this I am glad you team had a good amount of previous experience. I can relate to dealing with setbacks on a trip that is supposed to be fun that turns into a survival test or a test of comfort zone limits. That is what an adventure and why we seek it I guess. For new comers I think it would be best start out with smaller trip and get comfortable with the touring setup and endurance level. Thanks for sharing this epic adventure.
Yes, stretching the comfort zone is very much part of the adventure but certainly newcomers should start on a simple and safe trip to build up skills an experience. Thanks for your comment Matthew. Will - SUPboarder
Fair play m8 this was a great watch , being xArmy out your comfort zone is best way to learn 👍however being on land I can cope anywhere on little or no food surviving day to day , having just bought my first paddle board I’m looking forward to my first sup adventure, but that sea looks scary a and unforgiving 😂well done ! You’ll remember this for the rest of your life . Life is for living , looking forward to more videos and I’m learning from your videos ! As they say everyday is a school day 👌
Thanks for the positive comments - absolutely - pushing the comfort zone is a great way to learn! Get out there and enjoy pushing your comfort zone on the water. Be safe and happy paddling - Will
Hey David, great stuff. Will is away at the moment on another paddling adventure. Thanks for your comment I will make sure he see it when he is back. Thanks Reuben / SUPboarder
Menorca has the most changeable weather of all the Balearic Islands, being the most East it gets strong North and south winds, I have been going there for 40 years and each 2 week holiday at anytime of the year I will windsurf 4 days and mountain bike 4 days and sup the rest, it has a coastal bridal path all the way round the island called Cami de Cavalls
Robbie, I'll be heading to Menorca in September this year. Any good tips for the best mountainbike and SUP locations? Tips for hotels/resorts also very welcome! Thanks.
James Hallworth well it depends what you want and how mobile you are, the mountain biking is quite hard as your pretty much cycling on rock, some of the nicer routes are from Mesquida to Fornells and from Es Castell towards Son Bou, the west end of the island is more aggressive rock and access harder, there is a specialized bike shop that does hire in Mahon, paddle boarding depends on the wind direction whether it’s north or south coast, don’t know of any hire places apart from beach concessions, but Es Grau on the north side and south Cala Galdana, best caves are on south side where to stay, depends if you are a beach person or not, Mahon and Es Castell are harbour side so normally a lot to see and stuff going on, Mahon Fiesta is epic and on 7,8,9th sept. Free music and Jaleo horses until 2/3am if you are staying at that time try port Mahon hotel, you will be in the best place got it all with amazing firework displays, hope this helps
@@robingravestock3227 Great, thanks Robin! Just booked the family holiday and will be taking the SUP along. A day or two mountainbiking should be on the cards too!
Great stuff - the whole trip was tracked on GeoSUP app so you can use that as a tool to identify where we accessed the water etc. Cheers, Will - SUPboarder
Absolutely brilliant viewing. Thankyou so much for making and posting this clip. You have a great easy listening voice for narrating. Cheers. From me in Pembrokeshire sth west Wales. Look me up if your ever over this way bud. I'll show you the sites. I've got the Blackfin XL. 😊👍
Awesome Kerry! Thanks for the kind words. Will definitely keep you posted if we come to Wales. Would be great to do some exploring there. Glad the Blackfin XL is working for you. Cheers!
@@SUPboardermag thanks. I am a beginner and was wondering. Cause I want to go out sup-touring-camping with my son... but I can't leave him. I allready found something to lock the boards... the gear however is a different thing 🥴
good video but i wish you would have edited the sound so you had it all at a similar level. I was forever moving the volume up and down so I could hear what you were saying without being deafened by the music/ wind noises
Cool video, just looking at getting a sup board for touring. Come from a sea kayaking expedition background. Just wondering if you planned the trip with the tides, so you wasn’t pushing tide as well?. With sea kayaking we plan carefully with wind and tides so even if it’s wind over tide it’s not as hard to paddle. Check out the Windy app it’s great for conditions and plenty of tidal stream maps online and in imray maps. It could actually be dangerous if you get caught in a 3-4knot tidal stream or race, was just wondering how much you planned?. Great mission none the less. Cheers mike
Hi Mike, yes, there was plenty of planning for the trip. Everyone on the trip had come from a sea kayaking, SUP touring or yachting background, so there was good experience and a great planning attitude. As with any expedition, planning is really key. Wind conditions one of the key things we need to consider with SUP....Tide was less of an issue for us on this trip with smaller flows in the med, but we generally needed to paddle all day everyday to make our target distances anyway. Windyy is a really amazing resource I agree! There was a lot of discussions and planning during the trip about when to paddle and when not to paddle to avoid some pretty windy and stormy conditions. For most of the week we didnt think we would make the full circumnavigation due to a big mediterranean storm looming, but by planning around this well in advance, we managed eventually to get the miles in when we could and succeed in our goal. Shows planning does more than keep you safe, it allows you to fulfil your goals. Thanks, Will - SUPboarder Team
@@SUPboardermag Thats cool, Definitely a good team to have along then. And agree planning can be the make or break of an expedition. Either way looks like you all had a Rad time and always good times with good company. Keep up the good work with the videos!. Cheers Mike
It really depends on you weight but the Starboard Touring boards are a very good place to start. ruclips.net/video/UYG3HJm8oNw/видео.html ruclips.net/video/Sh7R2In9gsA/видео.html here are some of our old reviews of them.
@SUPboardermag I’m contemplating a Starboard Touring 14’ double chamber. Is the one you’re paddling here the 28” or 30”? It looks like it was stable enough

Thats a great idea Rob and worth us talking about in future touring tuitional.
Just a fantastic trip and video. Thanks for showing what can be done on a SUP.
Glad you enjoyed the video Geoff. Thanks, Beau

Good work. That wind always shows up. I paddle in the canyons of Arizona. Even there you will find wind.
Thanks ! Wow, those Canyons sound incredible! Please share some photos with us on our insta or Facebook :) Cheers, Will
I literally have goosebumps after watching this from the stoke I feel to try this. Amazing video...I think I'll watch it again.

Thanks Neil - were looking forward to sharing the next adventure with you
It's not easy to paddle a fully laden board 40 km. You made it look easy, well done.
Thanks - it certainly changes the way the board feels and works the shoulders a little more. Will - SUPboarder Team

Thanks for share This amazing Adventure. How long was the trip? In terms of Km?
The full trip is on GeoSUP, I think it was about 125km in total
Question, do you just leave your gear and sups when you go in to the town?
Really amazing adventure! Thanks for the video!
Yes, one of the team would stay with the gear, or if we all go out we hide and lock the boards up :)

How about doing Lisbon to Barcelona
Wow ! that could be a big one, and coastal, so lots more to think about - is it something you have been considering?
