Your point about how versatile cars can be is a good one. The '05 Matrix as an example, has 130 horsepower in the lowest spec'd model. That's not a lot by modern standards, but it's about the same as Ford was putting in 10 ton flat bed trucks in the 60s. An '05 Matrix can also do 0-60 in about 8 seconds. Again not great by modern standards, but it's enough to beat a 1955 Corvette. Edit: More horsepower than a Panzer tank too actually, haha. Obviously the Matrix is not tuned or geared to be a great cargo hauler or a great racer, but modern cars are very well designed to get the most bang for the buck, and I think projects like yours, and others who have successfully taken their cars even further outside the original design scope, really show that.

Have you tested it with a load ? I'm thinking of towing around 2500 lb total weight of load from Texas to Iowa via 2009 matrix. Do you think that is possible??
I’d be very careful pulling that much weight, but if you brake accordingly and keep a safe distance you should be fine. We pulled an atv for almost 2 hours with zero issues, but that was roughly 1200 lbs trailer included. Pulled with no issues! Best of luck!

I tow all the time with my matrix. Only putting the wiring on because I'm now pulling a boat.

Going up mountains is hard for any 4banger. I would be curious it would fair as well. I love my 2003 matrix.
