It really shouldn't surprise you that it punched through cheap wood like that. It's a nail, an implement designed specifically to bore holes through surfaces like wood, that was modified in such a way that its propulsion, resistance, and force of impact are magnified significantly, being fired from a functional gun. The fact that it got stopped by foam and fiberglass from the board at such a short distance means it performed pretty underwhelmingly.

So, based on the size blanks he used, a 9mm blank would be about 50% wider. Take the diameter and compare it and that's about 2.5 times more volume for gunpowder if the height of the blank stays the same.
Be careful filming welds. That flickering is the camera sensor getting slowly destroyed by the bright light and it can leave burn marks in the sensor and destroy it.

I’m a machinist in training at Uni right now. Seeing you stand on top of the lathe actually freaked me out a bit. That thing has enough torque to take your foot and/or leg off.
My father, a machinist of 35+ years has told me some wretched stories of guys being caught in the lathe, literally turning them to flesh soup... I have a hard time getting close to one now unless I need to lol

Be careful filming welds. That flickering is the camera sensor getting slowly destroyed by the bright light and it can leave burn marks in the sensor and destroy it.
