With “Moonlight Mile” and now “Loving Cup,” you're getting into the heart of what makes the Stones great. Gram Parsons coined the term “Cosmic American Music” to describe a unified, inclusive sound that reflected the diverse influences of American music: blues, country, soul, gospel, folk, rock and roll, you name it. Exile on Main St. (1972) completely embodies that concept but in the dingiest, dirtiest, swampiest fashion.
Here, this is their best “extended” lineup with Nicky Hopkins on piano, Bobby Keys on saxophone, Jim Price on trumpet and trombone, and producer Jimmy Miller on maracas. While there's no Mick Taylor on “Loving Cup,” his presence does represent an apex for the band, especially as a live act. Keep exploring this period of the Stones!

Nicky Hopkins on piano. A genius who made everything he played on better.
    EVERYONE should know his name.

"exile on main st..." and "sticky fingers" are among the best albums that came out in the 70s. Although Mick Taylor was not involved in loving cup, he definitely deserves special mention as the guitarist on these albums. Thanks for sharing and best wishes @all from Hamburg Germany

When The Stones get a groove going, no other rock band can match them. That glorious deep cut is one of their most underrated songs of all. It was the final track on side 2 of arguably the greatest rock and roll album ever made. The Stones at their absolute peak in 1971-72.

You get it. This was not one of their hits, but its greatness just shows how deep the Stones catalog is. It also shows how great an album they put together in the release of "Exile". If you want another great one, try "Let it Loose" from the same album. Or any of the other songs from that album.

"What a beautiful buzz." Speaking of buzzes, the Stones made the best psychedelic album bar none and then turned back to basics. The non-album B side Child of the Moon might be their best psychedelic song. It's the B side to Jumpin Jack Flash. 2000 Light Years From Home is also tremendous.

This is from thier album Exile on Main Street that was panned by the critics when it was released and is now considered on of their masterpieces. Funny how that goes. I loved the album from the day it was released and still do. The Stones are the funkiest of the classic rock bands and I think you're beginning to understand why. Other songs: Let It Bleed from the album of the same name, Soul Survivor, Rocks Off (yes, that's what it's about), Jig Saw Puzzle, Street Fighting Man, Get Off My Cloud, Tumbling Dice, Salt of the Earth, Monkey Man, Live With Me and the incredible 2000 Light Years From Home. Those can keep you going for a while!

The consummate band, people who haven't listened to the albums always talk about the singles, they say "much respect " but...they are without a doubt the greatest band, the diversity in their music is astonishing, Keith has riffs in his pocket and Mick has the ability to stretch his vocals in accordance with open g and e tuning guitar wise, incidentally Ginger Bakers favourite drummer was Charlie Watts!

The Stones do make the effort to pull out tracks from their past, not played in years, in their tours. (It has often been their keyboard and musical director Chuck Leavell who has suggested vintage tracks like this to play again.)

Shawn, you were so into this song that by the time it was over, I thought you were going to fall out of your chair !
I'm very pleased that you're finally beginning to explore THE definitive rock and roll band, the Rolling Stones. Bruce Springsteen once said that whenever the Stones go on the road, their catalog of songs gives them a setlist that can't be equaled.
I'm blessed to have been a child when the greatest music in human history - the rock and roll explosion of the sixties and seventies occured. Rock and roll was HUGE, it was everywhere and it was fantastic. The most exciting part of this for me and countless fans was the biggest band in the world, the Rolling Stones.
Shawn, I've met many Stones fans in my life, and if you'd been around in that era, I'm sure you'd have been all in. If you wanna enjoy your channel more, I humbly suggest you do at least one reaction video of a Rolling Stones song every week. They're rock and roll at its best, and that brings out the best in you !

@scottbroco - Right on brother! My first album was Hot Rocks when I was 9 years old. The Stones have been my favorite band ever since, and I’m 60. I’m certainly biased, but I feel so lucky to have grown up with the classic rock put out in the late 60’s through the 70’s. My top three - Stones, Zeppelin and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

This song is so freaking awesome, along with a ton of other tracks off this album, which many believe is the best album in rock and roll history roll history. If it’s not Exile, then one could easily argue for the three predecessors - Sticky Fingers, Let it Bleed or Beggars Banquet 🤘. You capfuls spend a week on covering Exile and be in music heaven! Try: Rocks Off, All Down the Line, Tumbling Dice, Sweet Virginia, and one of my personal favs - Ventilator Blues. All grade A unadulterated rock and roll!

Saw The Rolling Stones in 1989, but they did not play "Loving Cup". Saw Phish a bunch of times, starting in 1993, and I saw them play "Loving Cup" about three times. Glad they were mentioned in the write-up about the song, they do a great version that I think you would enjoy.

One of my favorites. Ya, beautiful build up.Alot of people don’t get that about the stones. Simple riffs, subtle build, and jam. Not to long. Midnight Rambler completely accentuates that imo.
