    excellent job sir. I used to long for a receiver like that one with nav and all that for an old tahoe I have. This modification was always a pain, now this kit makes it possible. I agree with you regarding the automotive manufacturers. These radios that came with the cars are terrible.
    Also you put in a back up camera? Nice! I love my old Tahoe and will keep it going as long as possible. Great Job

    I bought the same Metra kit for my 99 GMC. It works and overall the process was fairly easy but I'm not terribly impressed with the dash piece. Its a pretty ill fit in places. Worst is on the far right edge where you cannot see it when you are installing it but very obvious from the passenger seat. The entire right edge has a 1/4" of so gap which looks pretty ugly as you can see right into the dash there. Everything is installed right its just like the overall outside size is a little small and short on the right end. I am happy to have a double din installed though but will probably now take the time to modify my stock dash panel. Also - I found it made things much easier to remove the stereo bucket for cutting the metal bracket. Quick easy way to remove the bucket, use a 5/8" or so hole saw with the center drill bit backed out and just drill the plastic around the two rivets with it. Then you can remove the 4 screws and bucket very easily versus trying to fight those two rivets out.

    My 2000 Suburban strangely is playing AM radio but not FM. Is it time for a new radio, or could something be wrong with wiring or antenna?

    Back then there was no other way now its a snap.I did mine in 2004 and there was no kit to be found.So great job Metra.

    @Richard Larson My dash piece fits perfectly, it is slightly lower quality compared to the factory piece, but no real issues so far. Metra should go ahead and include those hard to remove factory clips, to save installation time, but otherwise I am still very happy with the kit overall.

    • @DVXCine
      @DVXCine 5 лет назад

      Those clips are long out of production.

  • @mattc2305
    @mattc2305 6 лет назад +1

    The kit works like a champ. EXCEPT for the hardware for the bezel. The clips are weak and don't grip. The will slide off the bezel. Use the original clips and it works perfect.

    • @Synthfidel
      @Synthfidel  6 лет назад

      Matt C I agree, use the factory clips (which are a pita to remove) and you will not have any issues.

    Thank you just the video I was looking for. And Yes I have no idea what GM was thinking with 1.5 DIN sized head units, I believe they started with the 79-80 X-Cars (that in itself should tell you something!) and at least some of those installations they were mounted vertically, My best guess was to force you to buy the overpriced under functioning factory options.. I guess that is part of the reason they went bankrupt. I am looking to replace my factory CD head unit as after 13 years the CD has gotten iffy, and the plastic knobs are disintegrating. I will say the factory clock is as accurate as a marine chronograph. Kind of like an IBM Computer Designed to last 50 years even though they become obsolete in 5 years and an antique in 10

      real rich i did. pioneer avh-x7800. love it. its tight though. backup cam reverse light wired to trailer harness in cab left of break. and i only open the screen when im in drive or just leave it open all the time. dim switch even worked.

    How can I safely cut that metal bar in the back? I have an 00 GMC Sierra with the same layout. The metal bar makes the radio poke out by a 2-3 inches. I know I can jerry rig this but I really dont wanna resort to duct tape and bolts to keep the radio still. SOS. All I got is a dremmel.

    I have a 99 yukon. Used a PAC with my new head unit. I get subwoofer, and trunk ceiling speakers, but thats it. I have no pink wire. everyone seams to have this pink wire but me. I'm at a loss, trying to get front/rear door speakers (and finding the factory amp. I did find the Bose amp). Any clue?

    Hi, I just bought this kit for my truck. I was wondering how you moved your ac controls. and do I need a dash kit as far as the plastic ring that normally goes around the radio its self. or does the bezel just fit that tightly? looking forward to your reply! Thank you.

    • @Synthfidel
      @Synthfidel  9 лет назад

      The controls are not moved as much as you would think, just barely at all really. The nose of the Jensen radio was a very snug fit in the Metra panel, took me three tries to get it positioned exactly right, and I used a credit card to help guide it in. Hope this helps, sorry it took so long to respond to your question, I never even got a notification from RUclips.

    Do the XM radio work fine with everything placed underneath the dash... I didn’t want to put the antenna on the roof of my truck please let me know how yours worked out for you in that location under the dash

    Hey Man, How R You, Have The Same Problem, Just Bought My Late 99' Chevy Silverado 2500 LS Crew Cab 4x4 Long Bed & Want To Install My Pioneer Double Din Navigation Head Unit In My Truck, I Already Seen U Have To Buy The Metra Whole Bezel Kit For The Double Din To Fit In The Dash & Some Modification's To The Back Of The Dash, My Question Is My Bezel Now Is Beige Or Tan Interior, This Thing Only Comes Black, I Guess I Could Paint It To Try & Match Interior & Dash Color Or How Would It Look Just Leaving It Black? I Watched Other Guys Video, That He Went Out & Got A Junkyard Bezel Same Color Of His Interior Off A 2003' To 2006' Silverado Model But Had To Make A Bunch Of Modification's Still For Everything To Fit Flush, Your Recommending Just Purchase The Metra Black Bezel, & That's The Best Route To Go? And I Guess I Could Paint It, & Get It Close To Factory Color Of My Original Bezel Which Is A Beige Color Interior. Hit Me Back Up When U Get A Chance, Thanks For The Video By The Way Great Video, Donnie South Jersey 08021

      No double DIN will fit with out cutting. Well you might find a radio WITHOUT CD player that is short (less than 4 inches) but nothing like Kenwood or Alpine or Sony

    This is exactly what I want to do with my 01 Silverado, I'd love to see a demo of the rear view, I know it requires some extra wiring to get it to come on when its in reverse. I'm not going to go with Jensen though, there's a lot of better and cheaper Android based stuff this is the one I'm looking at www.amazon.com/Pumpkin-Universal-Muti-touch-Navigation-Bluetooth/dp/B0151KNXJ8/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1452313176&sr=1-1&keywords=pumpkin+android+rear

      we considered going with an Android based radio, but got a great price from a former employer on the Jensen. it is a pretty decent radio, after you mod the navigation a little.
