To the commenter about "could have had a Warwick": Warwicks are nice basses, but they don't work for everyone. I once dropped $2000 for a used neck through Thumb 5 (ebay purchase). The bass sounded fantastic. Unfortunately it weighed a ton and worse, you have to have arms six feet long to play it. It hangs WAY to the left and the neck is WAY out there. And the neck profile was huge like a baseball bat. I started having problems with straining my hand and arm (I'm a small person with small hands). I ended up having to sell it. I now have a six string Ibanez bass similar to this one. I actually prefer the sound of the Nordstrand pickups to the MECs in a Warwick. The preamp is better in the Ibanez with active/passive useable tones. And, the build quality is just as good on the Ibanez. The neck is AWESOME feeling even with my small hands. It's super thin front to back which makes the wide neck much easier to play. If you have small hands and want a six string bass, this is your bass. The SR necks are super comfortable for those of us who do not have ET length fingers.
I have a thumb nt 4 and completely agree with you. Mine is a 98 and the neck is nice a lot thinner than some of the newer ones. I love the sound and feel of it though, and it inspires me and I haven't found another place to get that sound. I cannot play it standing up though, so it will always be a studio bass. I'm too short and it's too heavy. If I ever get in another band I will definitely be using my ibanez (93 sr1305 MIJ) and considering putting some MEC pickups in it, that or nordies
Totally agree - I had a German built passive Corvette, and that thing weighed a TON. The neck dive was ridiculous and the neck itself was like a club. I didn't keep it too long.
God damn. I just got the 4 string version of this. It's my first bass, been playing guitar for many many years. Thanks for making this video. Can't imagine how cool the 6 string version of it must be.
I'm jealous. I ordered the 5-string back in June, and I've been told I might have to wait until November to see it. I'll just have to keep watching your video until it arrives.
I like how it sounds it's just that every time I hear that type of picking I think of the Seinfeld theme. I have the baby of this bass The SR500 and that thing is great for the money so I anticipate that when I get the 4string version of this it will not disappoint.
I think the "E" stands for Extended since it has 6 strings, but that's just a guess. Looks like they don't use this naming anymore and just call it 5006 now.
Thanks for the review! How was the balance? I've been looking to upgrade from my SR506. I like it for the most part, but it is so neck heavy. I'd like to get a 6 string that I don't have to support so much with my left hand.
+subsonicfrequencies it feels good to me. I've never felt like i had to hold the neck up - but that could be a function of how I hold the bass (i mostly sit and rest the bass on my right thigh, when i stand, the center of the body hit me where one would wear a belt buckle, so not super high, not super low). This bass is definitely heavier than the 506. It isn't heavy (nothing like some warwicks) but it is heavIER than the 506. this is my primary bass. i'm a still a big fan. the only thing i would change is the placement of the volume knob. I would want for it to be swapped with the placement of the active/pass. I feel this way b/c sometimes when i slap, i feel like i have to be more mindful of the knob than i would want to be
I have a 5 string BTB Ibanez (neck-through). I love it! Was thinking of picking up this SR5000 Oil, it is a beautiful bass but I think a but too thin body for my taste. Now considering the Music Man Stingray4. Never played a 6 string though 🤔
Kind of the opposite for me. I love Warwick basses from the moment I played one, and I tried to like ibanez basses, but just never played one I liked. This bass looks and sounds something special though. I'd love to get a chance to try it.
Great playing, technique, rig & tone! My first "good bass" was an MIJ '92 SR-800 4-string (and my 2nd was a jump right to a 1996 SR-1206 six-string) and the 5000 series is one of the few modern production Ibanez Basses I'd play... I just wish at this price you could choose the pickups, whether they're the Bartolini's in it currently or the Nordstrand Big Singles in the 1200/1400 "Premium" lines (which I have in my custom Spectors) ...oh, and the "e" means it comes w/ a Gig Bag or Hardcase.
The battery (2 AA) in this bass does not have a special access compartment that is separate from all other electronics. If you want to change the battery, you've got to get out a screwdriver and unscrew several screws to pull the back cover off. By contrast, some basses have special battery compartments that don't require tools to open and enable easy battery access/changing.
I have 2019 SR5005 Prestige the battery compartment has been upgraded push tab it pops out … easy don’t even have to connect terminals . Love 💕 this bass cause I have small hands and it’s best deal on planet 🌎 In its price range . It’s a bass that needs NO upgrades at all. The pre amp and USA 🇺🇸 custom Bartolini pick ups sound equally great passive and active . I have an Alembic Essence bass with red LEDS ….. two thumb bases 4/5 ….USA stingray and the Ibanez is my fav bass to play cause I can get unlimited tones from it . This bass imo is best bass on planet 🌎 under $2700
I just have a question about this model www.ibanez.com/eu/products/detail/sr2605_01.html - Is there someone who owns it?.... I really love the specs of the bass SS frets high polish and so on.... But one thing botheres me.....How balanced this bass is? Because a lots of SR models are neck heavy, because of their light bodies.... It has tendencies to go down to its head... Cause even some ppl. told me that who owns this model and i tried different models of SR and they really falled down with their head... So what about if i keep the neck of the bass in high postion, like a 45 degrees or something and body lower ofr stance and sit position.... I usually play like this so that would be ok? Or its the neck that heavy that even from that high position like that would falling to head? I have bass in similar position like Clay from Polyphia for example and on this exact model that i posted playing bassist of After The Burial. I love specs and finish of the bass... Thas the only thing....
i've never looked into buying a preamp before. The flexcore is much more expensive than i thought it would be. DO you have sound samples of the flexcore in the 5006eol?
I have the opportunity to get this for 850 bucks lol, but im not doing it. i used to like this bass now im kind of interested in other types, i wish i still liked it.
Hey I know I'm late to the game but I humbled and excited to own this Bass as well. Got it for my 34th birthday last year July 15th 2017!! It's Beautiful looking and Beautiful sounding at the same time!! My version has a couple of tweaks...the Battery slot has it's own compartment now and the they turned the EQ balancer knob into a switch now. But I love this thing! Great video!! Check me out sometime
Actually not true. The Ibanez Prestige basses use a 6v preamp that uses 2 AA batteries. Pretty odd, and no easy access battery cover, but otherwise an amazing bass.
TRICK-OR TREAT mahogany is definitely the lighter coloured wood sandwiched in the middle , wenge is the dark grainy top and back wood as is the fretboard
Its hilarious 😂 when people complain about a bass that don’t have thing do with this video !! 💯 clowns 🤡 this is an Ibanez SR/5006 Prestige Bass not a Warwick!
They sound great, but Ibanez loves to cut costs by using these teeny-weeny, petite little bass bodies that only look good on a 98lb anorexic. Come on, Ibanez, give us something that doesn't look/feel like a kid's toy on a grown man's body.
Tim Wilson .. "Ibanez cuts cost's by using teeny-weeny petite bass bodies".. you say!?! WHAT??? Are you insane??? Listen, i have a marcus miller sire v7 with the ash body, and it weighs a friggin tone. I'm 6,3 inches tall and i weigh 230 pounds. So i am not a weak person. But i tell you what, my shoulder and back kills after just 10 minutes of the v7 hanging off my shoulder. I also have a yamaha BB414 which also is a hefty beast..but the v7 takes the cake. I'm in pain whenever i have to use these basses. One day my left arm started to go numb whilst i was playing and my fingers wouldn't function properly. So last week i went and bought myself an Ibanez SR300e. It's not an expensive bass, it sells for about $550 here in Australia. And i tell you what i friggin love this thing. The build quality is outstanding for the price. I can get just about any sound that i want out of it. And best of all it is BEAUTIFUL AND LIGHT. So now i'm thinking of selling my V7 and my yamaha, thats how happy i am with my Ibanez. Also, i think it is insane that people still make and buy basses with big heavy body's. That big body design was invented in the late 50's by leo fender. Why in the world would somebody want to huge plank of wood hanging off their shoulder? Ibanez make modern basses which do not kill your back or shoulder and thats the way it should be. It is 2018 not 1958 anymore. Who needs bricks hanging off their shoulder? Not me that's for sure. And i'll tell you something else, nobody can tell my that my Ibanez doesn't put out enough low end because of it's smaller body because i've had to turn my amp down a notch from where i usually have it. Trust me, this thing put's it out :)
delitemyheart I've got the Yamaha BB 705A it's this is not really more heavier than the Ibanez SR5005ol ( which i own too ). The body of the BB is just a little bit more bigger than the Ibby but, the SR it's just perfect piece of art with great balance but yes, basses like Warwick, Musicman are way too heavy. When you play a three hours gig, it will kill you. BTW, the old BB version weight a ton too!

I disagree with ibanez quality
God damn. I just got the 4 string version of this. It's my first bass, been playing guitar for many many years. Thanks for making this video. Can't imagine how cool the 6 string version of it must be.
I like how Ibanez gives this series a subtle Carl Thompson bass look. Just enough for the Bass enthusiast to make the association.
I'm jealous. I ordered the 5-string back in June, and I've been told I might have to wait until November to see it.
I'll just have to keep watching your video until it arrives.
Congratulations on your evaluation, the video was produced over 7 years ago, can I find this bass in the USA? And here in Brazil? ...
I ordered it used on ebay
@@LLroomtempJ Thanks
Sounds like the 506!?, Please!. Don't underestimate the prestige soundgears!! They are crazy good!
I like how it sounds it's just that every time I hear that type of picking I think of the Seinfeld theme. I have the baby of this bass The SR500 and that thing is great for the money so I anticipate that when I get the 4string version of this it will not disappoint.
floyd mayweather playing bass. awesome!
He do look like Floyd.
+Maxime Clement +tracy smith
i also get mike tyson and evander holyfield. Maybe i've missed my calling as a boxer
LLroomtempJ That's alright you can find your calling playing bass.
It is beautiful, sounds great.
Dang Ibanez have stepped things up...nice playing and madcore inflections! tight!
Thanks for sharing. The bass (and you playing it!) sounds great.
HOLLY MOTHER OF CHRIST THIS IBANEZ LOOKS FCKING A W O S O M E
Beautiful bass. I Play a Sr 755 at the present
I think the "E" stands for Extended since it has 6 strings, but that's just a guess. Looks like they don't use this naming anymore and just call it 5006 now.
The E is for the models with Bartolini pickups..
Thanks for the review! How was the balance? I've been looking to upgrade from my SR506. I like it for the most part, but it is so neck heavy. I'd like to get a 6 string that I don't have to support so much with my left hand.

Nice looking bass hopefully it sounds good.
Sick bass and tone! Also, nice job playing chords Jason! :P
I'll be buying this bass in a couple of years I hope...
Did you get it ??
Great bass, and video. Looking at the Ibanez site, I think the "E" stands for "EQ" as it has active/passive switch; I could be wrong.
I've played Warwicks a plenty I'll take the Ibanez, way better ergonomics !!
My Warwick sounds too dirty for me know I want one of these soon
Warwicks are built for like ... shaq
I love my SR5006!
I have a 5 string BTB Ibanez (neck-through). I love it! Was thinking of picking up this SR5000 Oil, it is a beautiful bass but I think a but too thin body for my taste. Now considering the Music Man Stingray4. Never played a 6 string though 🤔
I don't understand people's desire for Warwick.. I have never played one that I enjoyed (at least not as much as an ibanez)
Kind of the opposite for me. I love Warwick basses from the moment I played one, and I tried to like ibanez basses, but just never played one I liked. This bass looks and sounds something special though. I'd love to get a chance to try it.

wish you tested passive tone

hey really nice bass, nice review, and nice job =D
Great bass
Yeaahhhh.. i love dis bass!!

Big_Druuski I've got the same as you're and believe me, it's the best bass ever created.
thanks, dave
I notice a little bit of Esperanza Spalding in there at 4:53. Am I correct?
michael jackson "can't help it"
Esperanza's version of a Michael Jackson cover, of a Stevie Wonder tune.
I just got the cheaper model 6 string Ibanez. paid $230 otd with case. These are good rigs.
it's from a song that a piano player from my parent's church wrote.
2 double A's?
Yeah. 2 AAs. Easier to replace in a bind. But no easy access.
thanks, man
Okay I see now. Esperanza Spalding covered Michael Jackson's song.
jazz bass or ibanez sr?
+murat esen depends on what you like. i would def pick an ibanez. If they started making 6 string jazzes, i woulud have to check them out to see
I think you meant to say two 9v batteries and not two double a batteries...if this bass is 18v that's two 9vs
Actually not true. The Ibanez Prestige basses use a 6v preamp that uses 2 AA batteries. Pretty odd, and no easy access battery cover, but otherwise an amazing bass.
nice tone
very nice great
How much is the bass
austin johnson a lot
They're $2299 new
Beautiful bass, but in my eyes Wenge does not qualify as a top wood in the prestige range.
Wouldn't be a six string though...
Wau
TOP AND BOTTOM ARE MAHOGANY ................ WENGE IS IN THE MIDDLE.
TRICK-OR TREAT mahogany is definitely the lighter coloured wood sandwiched in the middle , wenge is the dark grainy top and back wood as is the fretboard
double a - no joke.
Its takes two 9V batteries, 2 AA's wouldn't deliver nearly enough power to the preamp
Owned
So many strings haha.
Its hilarious 😂 when people complain about a bass that don’t have thing do with this video !! 💯 clowns 🤡 this is an Ibanez SR/5006 Prestige Bass not a Warwick!
