I spent a week with Beckett in Berlin two years later, at the Schiller Theater, in late September, 1971. That experience was the second-most-profound one of my life; I had idolized him since high school, and was there with Jack and Gloria MacGowran, for whom I worked, and Gareth Browne of Claddagh Records in Dublin. Beckett was a mountain of human being. I intentionally did not bring a camera, out of deference to his privacy. At times, I almost wish I had. One night, after work, the five of us sat at a hotel bar sipping beaujolais, when Marcel Marceau approached our table, introduced himself to each of us, then proceeded to tell Beckett, in French, "how ironic that we both, living in Paris, should first finally meet in Berlin!" Gareth asked, upon Marceau's departure, "What do you think of that, Sam?" "Ahh, ...he tries too hard," was the reply.

Read the Knowlson biography when it came out. Gave it the title, 'Don't Knowlson' it was so bad. Crammed with superficial information and no understanding whatsoever except clichés.
I ran across this ... not sure if you have seen this ... I think that this is an early "Zoom" experience where he was offering feedback to a production in the States. ruclips.net/video/1ohAssRQsjM/видео.html
Though the close-ups can't have been done on the sly. Its not inconceivable he staged it to look like paparazzi footage, except for the close-ups. Otherwise try to imagine what he'd think if he was being filmed secretly, from afar. Not amused. You'd wonder.
Of course, nowadays it’s hard to tell real from Fake (pretty much all “news” except high school sports & weather)... but this seems like a genuine footage. 👍🏼

He walks like a young stud.
yes, very interesting way of walking,
such one swaying from one side of the body to the other
You can see that he was athletic when he was young.
Forever to the crease.

This is amazing! He won the Nobel in the same year, so he was extra sensitive about his privacy (read the Knowlson biography if you can).

@conic9, @Eckbert Wickleberry:
It's Ludwig van Beethoven's Sonatina for mandolin and cembalo C-minor, WoO 43a [1795].
Any idea what specific performance/musicians this was? Thanks
I wanna play piano n cricket with him ... PERHAPS, 🖤
The Man himself!
Amazing footage here, but the music is even more so.
Who is the woman he is walking with? It is not his wife; Barbara Bray?
A blockbuster by Stasi Pictures.
This is most definitely the Stasi's doing.

In West Berlin?
@@gregleonard1562 Ja.
is that barbara bray?
haha, the sneakers -_-
who in the world made this footage? Beckett seems unaware being filmed
he hated being filmed, he would have been pissed
Intriguing footage Beckett evidently had very poor eyesight I struggle to read print in the same manner even with glasses worn.
He had cataracts, as far as I recall. Hence always the dark glasses.
What about the Song? Does Someone know?
Is there any film of the great man either in interview or conversation or anything? I've never seen any...

Instead of the music they've got here, turn the sound down and watch it with Fatboy Slim's "Weapon of Choice" instead. Even more badass.
Jesus Christ. What a revelation.
Ha ha ha! Brilliant, absolutely brilliant! Also the Walken video. I can't stand rap but that is very good. Thank you.
Which is the song playing?
It all started with Beckett
what did?
west or east?
What a unique gait.
Bizarre, clearly this was done surreptitiously?Non?

His gait looks off to me. I would not have pictured him that way.

When they're able to fake things to this level of plausibility, we'll know (or more likely won't know) we're doomed.
