@@juliacudney I feel you on the Mac computer issues. I had issues with the origin app (since as far as I'm aware the EA app hasn't been made for mac yet) and not only can I not have "remember me" when I log in, I still can't open the game. This video makes me weirdly nostalgic.
@@symwinter you need to click the “remember my login” button before you enter your password or it’ll just log you straight in and you won’t be able to save your login.

I related so much to everything Julia said about how she plays sims 4, a real kindred spirit for this overpriced dumpster fire of a game. The micromanaging, the way she contrives stories. Like her pulling out the perfect gardening set up grid? Yes. Absolutely. Please drop that somewhere Julia, love you, never stop

Get together is my favorite pack of all time because of the clubs, so I thought I'd share because I think the club system is easy to overlook. This is how I manage my Sims social groups. I give my sim however many friends, and then you can call them up all at once. You can just have them be social as an activity and it feels so much more like a genuine social hangout between friends. And it is such a nice and easy way to keep friend groups alive. I play more single millennial style so friend groups are very important to how I play. It was crucial to my favorite sims experience, where I followed a group of five friends from young adults to elder and built their families and they grew together.
I've also heard of people making clubs within families for chores, which sounds way more your style. Or I've thought it could be fun to make a group go to a certain bars or dance clubs. Or you could use it to easily bring your sims grandparents over to visit. There's so many neutral club activities that can make sims be generally social.
Or you can do a fun club where you build a room of easels and have a club where people come to your place to paint and you just sell their art. Easiest way to get rich. 😂
I didn't like clubs (and still don't really), but I've found them useful for creating a "Class" of kids for my child sims like they're all classmates in school. You can set it so only a certain age group is in it and they can do homework as an activity. It's really useful for having your kid make friends and build relationships and do activities with a lot of other kids.
A sims youtuber I occasionally watch mentioned that's what she used them for and I've been doing it ever since (I got zero use out of it beforehand and found all the club related stuff annoying). Real game changer!
I just like to imagine that there’s some animator crying happy tears, hearing there are players like you that don’t forward and just enjoy watching the sims do their activities.

I love how Laundry Day is probably one of the most mundane packs ever made and yet it's consistently one of the best packs for people. I remember back when the community was voting for the packs and so many people were complaining about getting a pack focused on doing laundry but I was there, a silent hero, ready for glory to be born!
I think it's so interesting because I absolutely hate Laudry Day. Bust the Dust doesn't necessarily bother me (except that maids won't freaking vacuum) but I abhor doing laundry in real life, but do because clean clothes are important, and really don't want to also have to do that in the Sims.
What I love most about the Sims as a series is how everyone has their own way of playing the games. For myself I'm a huge family/legacy gameplay person who tends to ignore Aspirations beyond their starter perks so it was really interesting to hear how you play and the details of what you prioritize. It's also motivated me to try playing in different ways since I tend to get bored as I'm running through my Legacy saves. Plus I'm like you and have unfortunately bought pretty much all of the packs (except for Batuu for the same reasons) and haven't actually explored much of their content due to my own preferred playstyle so this might actually get me to do that finally. So thank you for that!
As an Animal Crossing girly who doesn’t play Sims I somehow still felt a connection to this video that I can’t explain 💕
But Julia, clubs are perfect for giant dynasty saves because you can make all the children cousins do homework together despite living in different houses! Tbh I mostly use clubs to organize my family instead of its intended use anyway 😂

Yes, the Fitness Stuff Pack rock climbing wall does give your sim both Athletic and Rock Climbing skill if you have Snowy Escape. It’s a great item for if you intend to climb Mt Komorebi and need to build your rock climbing skill without having to actually go to Mt Komorebi.
I like packs that expand on specific life stages, like highschool or university. Thats why I got the parenthood expansion. I like packs that are "all encompasing" like weather or pets, rather than more focused on one thing like magic or celebrity. Although I would for sure buy a pack that had vampires, werewolves and wizards all together

I follow a couple Sims 4 RUclipsrs, and seeing this video pop up in my subscriptions for a creator that isn't one of those was a delight. I also love playing the acting career and I think this has convinced me to buy the Movie Hangout pack
There's a perfect mod to put high schools in other worlds!!! It's attached to the "venue changes" mod, and you can only have one high school per save so you have to bulldoze the copperdale one, but i've had a perfectly functional small high school in mt komorebi with that :))
I dont personally have fitness stuff but Ive heard people say the rock climbing wall builds the rock climbing skill from snowy escape now. So excited to hear ur sims takes im having a blast with this!
i think you mentioned the sims on twitter or smth at some point and ever since then i’ve been wishing for a julia/sims 4 video!! this makes me so happy!! i love playing happy families too, but i have to be careful playing with them at night because i get the compulsive urge to make my soulmate sims cheat on each other due to sleep deprivation
Modder Zerbu has a mod where you can build a high school/auditorium anywhere in the worlds! You can only have one high school and auditorium per save but still! It's called The Sims 4 Mod: Venue Changes

Firstly, thank you for going in on eco lifestyle! I’ve been debating getting it because the build items look so good but I don’t care about the gameplay at all, so you talked me out of wasting my money (even if it is on sale)
Second, I relate so much with the micromanaging play style! I definitely spend more time planning out the backstory and what I want my sims lives to be than I do actually playing it 😅 but you’ve given me lots of inspiration to actually play legacies
Third, PLEASE drop that gardening grid plan! I need it 😅gardening gets me SO overwhelmed, I suck at it!

I was SO thrilled to see you post this, and delighted to realise you're a simmer :D it's so funny, we have almost exactly the same play style except I play with occults constantly. I love a good spellcaster legacy playthrough or an enemies-to-lovers storyline between, say, a werewolf and a vampire. For the actual Realm of Magic I also don't go there often, but when I do play with it more heavily I like to download or build an alternate lot for it (with bb.enablefreebuild on, obviously) with plenty of beds, showers, a kitchen etc. and just have them live there for a while in a School of Magic way, kind of like how you'd pretend to live on a lot when you have a store/restaurant.
Please do drop the gardening set up! I'm obsessed with farming and simple living playthroughs too (and spending hours of real life time posing my sims for photoshoots but that's... beside the point...)

Realm of Magic was such a lost opportunity. I know they tried to make it cool and mysterious by having it be a separate realm hidden in this world but they should have just focused on the magic realm and have it accessible through some portal or something. It just makes both the world it came with and the realm itself feel half-done because it's a gamepack and won't have the resources to be fully fleshed out. I agree that the realm itself is really boring and you can see they attempted to make it "magical" but they failed. I wish you could help repair the world so that it felt like something you can grow attached to rather than using it as some shopping mart. I'm fine with not being able to live there but make it a really fun place you want to visit. Have the different "schools" of magic be physical places you can go to with various magical beings/characters for replayability. Make us want to stay in the world rather than quickly get our things and leaving.

Just bought Growing Up as per your twitter recommendation and am loving it so far! One game I think you'd really get behind is "I was a teenage exocolonist", which has similar mechanics and also features a Life is Strange-style time loop that persists across multiple saved games. I've always struggled to stay commited to a sims save file because I felt like somehow my sims had just as bad adhd as I do, so their needs were always low, but maybe I need to just turn autonomy off......then i can write some real storylines.....i'm inspired now
this video is perfectly timed for me because i have just gotten back into the sims 4 within the past couple of months after not playing for years! i agree with basically all your opinions here - i also love to micromanage my sims, lol. i just got cottage living bc it’s half off right now and I’m loving it!!
With MCCC you can change the amount of days one life stage takes. I like to play on long, but I do half all life stages for the amount of days. I gives my sims a lot more time to do hobbies and get into shenanigans without it feeling like my sims suddenly becoming adults without ever having a relationship or maybe more than 1. It gives my sims the time to really have a life, instead of just finishing careers and fulfilling aspirations.

It's so interesting to hear from the perspective of someone who wasn't knee deep in the community from the release of Sims 4. I stopped playing in like 2019/2020 because I just got bored. (and because my 2016 Mac laptop could barely handle the game and all the custom content I liked to use) I'm so out of the loop on all the new stuff happening right now, and haven't been paying much attention to the drama.
I will say, you're right on the money on a lot of the earlier packs! The game was released missing so many key features from previous installments, that it seemed like all the packs were rushing to fix that. It was very empty at launch. I myself didn't buy the game until we were several packs in. There's barely anything in those first packs because they were pushing them out before they even finished.
I'm surprised you don't like Spa Day, though I admit that we have different playstyles. I'm very much a chaos gremlin and I mostly end up in CAS or Build mode so Spa Day is so integral to me.
The wedding pack is largely maligned because of all the glitches and bugs on launch. I guess they fixed it?
Get To Work and Dine Out are some of my most favorite packs that was done so dirty. Get Together is one of my favorite and most used pack of all. After that is City Living. It's my favorite for build mode and cas and I love the NPCs that come with this pack. I wonder how it'd work with For Rent. I think it could really work well together!

I can't live without the clubs. I delete the original clubs, and make clubs for the teenagers and make them go somewhere specific to do teen things, or make single sims go to bars, or bartender sims show up places and just start bartending, then when I'm playing as a non-club member I see the clubs show up doing the things I told them them to do. Great for micro-managing.
You're making me wanna get back into Sims 4 😭 I think for me, a black simmer, I really liked the Fitness pack because it gave us more black hairstyles. They really flubbed black hair (and skin tone that wasn't at pale to tan or alien blue) at the beginning. Besides, Fitness has some cute athlesiure outfits.

The stuff you described as your problem with Eco Lifestyle (neighbors coming and doing weird things) is precisely the reason why I have the Private Dwelling lot trait on almost all of my home lots. :'D And neighbors in general who just come knocking all the time. (But a lot of pack features can be turned off, thankfully.)

I have all the sims stuff, except for Horse Ranch, 4 Rent, Home Chef Hustle Stuff, and I think I don't have Basement Treasures or Book Nook, but I'd have to check.
We have the same principles! I also own everything besides Batuu, even My First Pet Stuff ... (well besides a few of the CAS kits, but it's more of a lack of money to buy them rather than a refusal like Batuu)
I feel so same about the murphy bed! Like it basically scares me because I don’t want a random unexpectd murphy bed death JUST because I wanted my Sim to live tiny. As much as I want to use the murphy bed, I don’t want to chance it. So I will do the loft bed over the desk or couch instead 😂
I actually like getting Sims out to community lots, but I like to make the community lots multi-functional. So I got movie stuff and bowling stuff and made a movie theater/bar/bowling alley. I play a rotation of families on long and I have these dads called the bro squad who hang out for bowling, movies, or basketball a lot.
I currently don’t have seasons. I’m asking myself how long I can go with not caring since everyone swears it’s a must have. Still do not care. Also as a person who has played Sims off and on since Sims 1 and got into Sims 4 late in it’s life (still live for Sims 2 - amazing game) I am annoyed EA still sells weather as an addon. So that is my ‘on principal’ resistance that I am sure will fold eventually.
Btw….yes Get to Work introduced Aliens into Sims 4 which I think was the first actual occult in Sims 4. It also brings the hospital into play for childbirth which boost things a bit, but not by much. It does suck as a pack…got it on sale I did.

i'm also a micromanager. i watch the sims videos on youtube and the chaos makes me phisically ill. like i cannot phantom my sims not doing everything the way i want them to. it makes me anxious. i was trying to play the 100 baby challenge, but all things being out of my control made me give up. it was awful
i think we play in the exact same way, i micromanage everything, i focus only on aspirations ect. I even have the exact same chart for planting seasons!!!!

i only have city living, cats&dogs and get together bc ive been watching sims youtubers since the sims 3 bc thats fun and when the sims 4 came out i played the demo on my mom's work computer and then begged for ages for the actual game but you see the game never ran very long on my laptop so after cas &decorating(bc i am not a good builder) id always just get bored during early gameplay bc of the lag so i couldnt justify even just wanting any more content(ignoring that its too expensive for me anyway). but i did like collecting maxismatch cc and doing cas, and itd didn't stop being fun to watch other people play. so all my current knowledge on the dlcs is other people. so i guess this video is more knowledge for me

Or you could have a second sim that's a spellcaster (or the same sim) and have them make a bunch of youth potions which I'm pretty sure act the same way as the ones from life experience??

Julia have you ever played any sort of farming sim? There’s a difference sense of progression in a lot of farming games but the sort of min maxxing of gardening makes me think you’d really like stardew valley, for the same reason I like it (and also dislike it for the same reasons as me haha)
(I dislike it cause mining, and if your doing the game really efficiently you run out of aspirations and goals once you do the community house unless you want to go to the late game less gardening and farming associated areas and complete objectives there.)
i’ve played animal crossing, and stardew is definitely a game i’ve considered trying, but i haven’t gotten around to it yet!
