- This is how i pack my haversack when i go to re-enactments and is as close as i can get it to the field manual regulations also keep in mind i keep some of the things in the small bag of personal items in my gas mask bag. Remember they extensively used them to carry some of their stuff. I personally carry some personal items, my rain poncho, shaving kit, toiletries, journal, cards, sharpening stone, spare parts roll and sewing kit in my gas mask bag.

awesome video kid, i can tell you are fairly young by your voice but i think it is absolutely awesome you have such an interest and knowledge in ww2 era field gear and have an appreciation for it like i do. i am almost 27 and for the past 5 or 6 years ive been collecting ww2 era firearms and been studying and watching ww2 movies etc. and every time i buy a surplus rifle i try to buy all the accessories for them. and since buying my all time favorite "greatest battle implement ever devised" m1 Garand i bought the m1923 cartridge belt for it and been slowly adding on to it.. So soon i hope to have a nice original haversack like yours. Great video and happy collecting and enjoying history!!!!
i am the same i am 12 i am looking on how to do stuff too
r/youngpeopleyoutube?
@@austinscoins6804 he's 12 bro not that young
I don't think his is original, but it does look like a good reproduction
Good video, certainly informative for guys who might be just starting out and have no idea how to pack the monstrosity that is the 1928 pack. Well done
Now get a full belt of ammo, 2-3 full bandoleers, weapon, helmet, complete uniforn and run 3 miles up Curahee!!
Headed off to the Gothic line event and this is just what I needed. Thanks!
Nice, just got my 1928, 41 dated and a pistol belt with canteen and 45 pouch. I've got pegs and poles for a shelter half I used for my poncho. Saw some Halves on ebay. Just need to get a T shovel, Machete and holster for my 45. A real help, thanks
Great video. Good work for reading the manual. I think you might already realize, that what the manual has the soldier carry and what the soldiers actually carried are completely different......especially in action and in the field. Soldiers habitually throw away many items to reduce their load and somehow manage to get by.
This is after they dumped everything this is bare essentials, read ALL of the stuff they wanted I dont even have half of it here.
@@Airborneboy506 I would think at least socks and undergarments would at least be bare essentials don't want trench foot after all.
Slide the cross straps through the loops on the long flap. That keeps it in place.
Thx my grandpa died over the weekend and I received his uniform and backpack and Manley other things and for his funeral I I'm putting his uniform together
That's cool, I would love some ww2 gear!
Hey sorry for your loss, don’t sell the stuff keep it and show it. That or donate to a museum.
Sorry for your loss and what branch and division was he in
Rylan Condel he was in the Army 310th infantry 78th lightning division. I’m following in his footsteps and I enlisted in the navy
Good luck over there and keep that uniform it's great to have something to remember him
I wear my wools and pack my HBT set in there when I can, and vice versa when I wear the HBTs or switch it up.
At 11:55, I think the E-Tool cover strap ripped a bit.
Most likely...
I saw that you could see the dust i heard the change in his voice as well
You'll make a fine soldier one day kid.
You a recruiter? 😁
great job. love the video helped me a lot!!!!!
Same
Dude, thank you so much. I couldn’t find anything online of how to pack it without all the equipment. Also, is there any way to get any of those field manuals?
FM 21 100 :) thats the field manuals name. look up a PDF and download it for free.
HBSUofficial Great, thank you!
Dinty Moore is a brand name of canned goods. SHould be at your market. Kinda look like C rats with the label removed. Cost a couple of bucks and you can eat it right out of the can. There are repro C rat cans, just as the repro K rat boxes.but you would have to research them for cost etc.
Excellent video, thanks. Nice kit!
Wow! SO long ago but still an awesome video!
Hey, i have a problem adjusting my haversack to fit properly. Idk whether to lengthen the front straps and shorten the two back straps or vise versa?? My haversack sags too low when i have it on......
Then you're wearing it properly. It was supposed to fit everyone, and in designing it for the purpose, it fit no one.
Good to know lol. thanks much! I have come to notice that in some actual combat photos, its a little saggy. but then in the movies and reenactors it looks like it fits perfectly.
Well, reenactors want everything to fit perfectly. That usually means that they wear their clothes too baggy and some other things. But I'm fairly certain that they just don't fit some bodies.... I have the same problem with mine (but probably to a lesser degree).
Nice vid mate, but where can I find the personal items especially the rations, can I maybe get a ration schematic somewhere what I can print out and make myself if that even exist?
Fruit I mostly get my stuff from ebay.
At 9:25......the horizontal straps should go through the vertical loops on the flap that is pulled upward.
Your belt and haversack are different theaters, most of the time. They would be both Kaki or both of green
*od green
Good job though
Is this also what the used on D-day?
Substitue 2-3 Dinty Moore Beef Stew cans (less labels) to simulate C rats or use the repro cans.
I buy modern cans and paint em. But do the cans youre talking about cost less?
+Airborneboy506 just say vido on helmet from some kid over seas sad m1c helmet was never used on dday witch it wrong you guys give out so wrong iinformation and sent this vido to at the front and laugh at it becouse seen stuff all the time and think it wast of time and ther right i know quit will and they know me
@@paullemieux7896 what...? What?
Could I carry a blanket in the haversack instead?
Generally If you were carrying a blanket, you'd carry a shelter half as well, but you could if you wanted to.
Don't forget the GI propylactics!
Keep em in the pocket for quick access ;)
He does.
paul lemieux Oh you again, tell him then, wise one.
+NOCA Graffiti HAHAHAHAHA! You're so funny with you're spelling and gangsta talk. :P
hahah
i subbed you btw iam from belgium
Excellent video. You seem to be very knowledgeable about your gear.
That being said. What the hell were they thinking when they designed that sack? I guess designing a bag to put all that gear in was just too difficult?????
Great video though.
It was a definite improvement over what they had before it
How do you get your K ration boxes I’ve been wanting to know a king time
sorry for my angry comment. i gues i exagerated a little mistake. also thanks for showing me some stuff with my haversack
Awesome video bud!
I got a 1941 dated haversack for $10 from a veteran, How much did you get yours and whats the date?
Hunter Santana lucky, I have been trying to find one for two years now and still can’t find one, if I look online, they are really expensive
@@damionw9740 hehehe I got an original 1917 haversack for $5 at a yard sale. It was found in the sellers attic in a crawl space between the wall
Edit: it's in great shape too
@@thIDthIRreenactor 1942 Boyt for me at a Estate sale for $2.50 complete with Meatcan pouch but missing one buckle on the shoulder strap that I replaced with another spare WWII buckle till the replacement original period buckle arrives. My haversack has a unique field upgrade that was done sometime during the war the two straps were omitted and a single strap installed to use the grommet on the belt portion of the cartridge belt.
@@michaelbenjmitchell1 nice
@@thIDthIRreenactor That strap looks like it is in the exact spot where it would have been on the M1910 Haversack. I think a old WWI vet who was still in for WWII probably did the modification on mine.
Thank you this is very helpful!
Can like kids and teens do reenactments? Because I'm 13 and really want to
Nop you have to be 16+
thx bro you realy helped me out !
Excellent!...
You might be too young, but hows about the prophylactic kits?
Where can I get that book
were can I get a deactivated/demilitarized m1 Garand or m1903 very very cheap
Depends what you mean by cheap. If you're going to be doing reenacting, that's unfortunate. They don't run "cheap" at all. You're looking at AT LEAST $1200, i.e www.gunbroker.com/item/571227999. If you're only doing living history type things, you can get replicas real cheap that don't function, i.e www.hessenantique.com/M1_Garand_p/hausor22-1105.htm
You can get a denix non firing m1 for about $250 and I know I’m 3 years late
@@UncleT_Fishing Lucky for me I have a fully functional M103A3 that I bought for under $600.
Where do I put my one half of the tent?
I think your supposed to be using the pack tail and leather strap when you pack in the shelter half and tent poles allows you to be able to pack other things in the Haversack.
is this a JQMD haversack?
what do you mean you didn't pack every thing on the gear list.... OFP I guess
No spare socks /underwear? towel?
That’s a very large ditty bag...
hey man!
under the meat pouch is there a shovel holder or do you have to place it there @Airborneboy506
Jacob Allan there’s a small canvas flap with 2 grommet holes sewn onto the cover of the haversack, meant for attaching your e-tool to it with the hooks it has on it’s own cover.
i think most soldiers werent so O.C.D about how things were placed in the "little green bag" and/or haversack because the haversack was so crappy that how things were placed in there probably didnt matter and no one soldier really cared. (im not trashing your video)
and trying to repack this thing when your suddenly under fire probably didnt help the cause
Im ocd about that, cuz I don't want anything jamming into my back or poking my spine while I'm using the haversack.
@@huntersantana4645 Don't know you but it sounds stupid when you say, "in combat" because you're not.
@@brandonerickson1193 Hmmmm. I did not realize that, I'll edit.
Again, I don't know you, you may be military, I don't know, sorry if I was a little rough.
What’s the book that he has
Search online for the Basic Field Manual, Soldiers handbook FM 21-100, you can download the PDF version.
Who says a kid can't teach you something new.
I like your videos but you say relatively a lot no offense
Kasey Heflin that's what RUclips videos are for
ITS NOT A DAM MEAT CAN ITS A MESS KIT! IF YOU CAN PACK A HAVERSACK YOU SHOULD KNOW WHAT IT IS!

This is why the French always surrender.
paul lemieux You seem like the kind of person who thinks the Maginot Line was effective.
