    So, what are your top tip for hiding foam join lines?

    • @dth1138
      @dth1138 5 лет назад +1

      I would suggest to put glue on the smallest piece of foam so that you don't need to guess on the bigger base piece when gluing foam pieces together.

      I just use more colour and glue.

      If you are going to be making many Undercuts or "V" groove cuts instead of a random box cutter invest an inexpensive "V" Gouge. It's a Woodcutting tool which come in varying sizes. It can be used in as many needs as one can think of.

      Dont stack the foam blocks horizontally but vertically (or slightly diagonally). Even if the seam lines show a bit they look more natural.

      I cover my foam builds in ModRock, I also prefer the end result, it looks more realistic.

    I cheat by cutting each sheet into two or more wedges and stacking them in a different order, so the join lines look more like natural cracks, because they aren't parallel to the ground or each other.

    Thank you very much for the video. This is really useful! And I do love the music in your video. It adds an inspirational atmosphere instead of just putting an easy listening soundtrack in the background.

    If your doing a sediment layered rock face you could leave the ridges of PVA as it would be less noticeable😀

    I know it is rare...but it is good to see you sitting down saving your back. I always thought your back would be really sore at the end of the day.

    Out of context Mel: “In this case you want to go in dry. Not completely dry because you’ll break your tool.” 😆

    Excellent as usual Mel. Can you carry this through and paint/flock it? Just so we can see how great a few pieces of foam can look. . . see the finished thing.

    Caulking... Then the excess on the edge I rub in the join with wet finger always leave one side unsealed to let the dots of caulking dry inside..
    That's my go to
    Of course I haven't seen the whole video yet..and you may talk about it

    I highly suggest using special polymer glue for polystyrene rather than PVA to adhere foam. Sold in hardware stores ans used for gluing moldings. It's cheap doesn't shrink or expand and sets in about half an hour. Just lightly scuff surfaces before gluing.

    Hi Mel, where can I get this kind of insulation in the UK. All I manage to find is the stuff with the silver backing on it ?

    • @scaryopa735
      @scaryopa735 4 года назад +1

      The silver backing pulls off easily, B&Q sell smallish sheets for 5 or 6 quid. I use this for mine!

    Brilliant as always Mel! What brand is this foam?

  • @gvet47
    @gvet47 5 лет назад

    If you try expanding foam and carve it will that just open a lit of air bubbles and be even harder to cover? Would it not work as well to coat along the line and then coat it all?

    • @TheTerrainTutor
      @TheTerrainTutor  5 лет назад

      If you want to mate, but you might as well hit it with a heavy texture gloop coating in the case

  • @rujv200

    Can you use filler as a glue for the foam slabs? Anybody tried yet?

    • @TheTerrainTutor

      it does stick foam but I've never used it to mate
