Melograno was in the handbag of Vesper Lynd from the 1967 version of Casino Royal. When it was remade in 2006 it was there as well as a nod to the original.
It’s funny , my wife check out this video before going to Saks Fifth Ave to pick up her fave Melograno . And her reaction after getting her first bottle is “ euphoric”😂
I went to the complex in 1997. I’d never seen anything like it. I love the story behind it. I bought a bottle of Melagrano, a clear bottle with green writing. I've been to the Florence location and was MESMERIZED. It was absolutely beautiful. I purchased the vanilla fragrance, and your review here is spot on. It's not a BAD fragrance, just not my favorite vanilla fragrance. I'd like to try more of their fragrances, though.

I wore Peau d'Espagne and Patchouli. Bought the last 250ml bottle of Peau d'Espagne available in Brussels years ago. They discontinued that size. Even if they are called Eau de Cologne these fragrances are bombs. They last and project way more than most EDPs. SMN makes no advertising, uses no photoshopped face. And this is now luxury.

Melograno! I owned it years ago when I first started exploring niche perfume. The dry powdery note meant to evoke the skin of a pomegranate juxtaposed against the tart-juicy note that represents the seeds. It isn't sweet, like so many fruity florals today. Loved that you mentioned the SMN fragrances having a classic vibe -- they definitely do, in the best way. There's a certain enveloping-yet-weightless quality that SMN fragrances possess even when one would expect the notes to be "heavy." Greetings from Florida and thanks for the trip down SMN Lane!
I visited the pharmacy in Florence on my honeymoon and purchased my first bottle of Tabacco Toscano. It will always be a special fragrance for me, it’s beautiful and unique. Easy to wear. Halfway through my second bottle currently. Great video; appreciate your review of this house.
Melograno sounds best to me, the pomegranate makes it fresh and love the oakmoss note. Overall, the complex notes seem very harmonious and balanced. Thanks for the clear reviews with your personal story, would definitely visit the store if I ever go to Florence. I recently got into Santa Maria Novella brand, I love that they make natural scents that can be worn very easily at the same time being elegant. If you buy a bottle, be sure to ask for the (complimentary) sprayer. I bought Muschio the first time I was in Florence as a teenager and have always owned a bottle of that since then. Tobacco Toscano, Zangara and Marescialla are my go to's, but Muschio is OOF. Just the best date night fragrance ever (at least according to my husband)
I have been to the Santa Maria Novella in Florence many times and did the tour several times. I own five of their fragrances and have used lots of their soaps and body milk. The five fragrances I now own are: Patchouli Melograno Acqua di Lavanda Ambrata (lavender and amber) Violetta Gelsomino (jasmine) In the US you used to be able to buy them at Aedes de Venustas in New York City in person at their store or on line. I am not sure if the store survived the pandemic but think you can still buy them on line. Years ago before they were available on the internet, I remember having to call Santa Maria Novella to order something and years ago, I had to even order things from Aedes by phone. When I ordered anything from Aedes, it used to arrive by U.S mail the very next day.
I love Tobacco Toscano. I wear it as my signature scent when I don't want an overpowering scent. Mostly around my work colleagues. I even get some nice compliments from my coworkers too. It's a perfect cozy scent. I'll check out the Melograno next. I don't mind classic.

Hi, thank you for the video! I started becoming interested in this house two years ago, so I went to visit the store in NY (I live in NJ). I absolutely loved Angels of Florence because of its elegant floral scent and amazing musky yet sweet dry-down; this fragrance reminded me of sitting on a bench and smelling flowers and dust mixed with petrichor after a full day of rain.
I didn't have the opportunity to explore this beautiful house yet but heavily interested in due to my gravitation towards Chanel-like, fresh/classic profiles~ I appreciate that your reviews are always through in explaining the scent profiles of the fragrances. I was in their London store yesterday and they were super nice and friendly. I bought the patchouli and they gave me a big handful of testers for a few others. The shop is small but it's well worth a visit. The guy in the store told me that Potpouri is their number one seller.
I LOVE lilac and have always looked for Lilac fragrances - but they seem to be very rare. My mothers favorite note is Lily of the Valley and fragrances featuring this note are also rather scarce too. Maybe you can do videos on fragrances that feature unique floral notes.
I was able to order 2 from the SMN website back in March and it shipped pretty fast from New York to Austin. I think they might have a distribution center, unless that's changed in the last 2 months.
I was planning on visiting their store right before covid restrictions hit. Can’t wait to travel again to visit different houses that I don’t have close by me.
Hi Sebastian, I am presently In Florence (early June 24) and went to the historic Santa Maria Novella Boutique. Beautiful experience and the fragrances were all good, great or impressive :) My favorites in order from the ones I like the most to least are Tabacco Toscano, Patchouli, Vetiver, Pot Pourri and Peau d'Espagne (Nice and strong leather based fragrance). Honorable mentions to the Colognes they have, very pretty, but similar to 4711. A must see in Firenze, Italia, ciao :)

Visited SMN in Florence last year and tried several eau de cologne. In the end, I bought Tabacco Toscano for myself and Vaniglia for my daughter. We also liked Acqua della Regina and Alba di Seoul very much. I am looking forward to try Patchouli on the next visit.
The only Santa Maria Novella I own is Nostalgia. The first time I smelled it the opening smelled of gasoline fumes, which I loved -- shades of Fahrenheit! By the time I got myself a bottle, it had been reformulated and, sadly, the gasoline fumes are gone, or, at least, more attenuated. I do love Melograno but have yet to get a bottle of it. I really should revisit the house. Thanks for the top 5! I'm jealous that you got to tour the facility. I will check out your video. I live in Illinois.

I have the honeysuckle one (Caprifoglio)and love it for the summer. My favorite of yours would be the Vetiver because it sounds like something that would be unique and a little different for a vetiver scent. The notes are everything I love. The Great State of Texas! Thank you Sebastian!

I love Santa Maria Novella. I am very happy to see you discuss their fragrances. I have Vetiver, Melograno, Russa, Tobacco Toscano, Sandalo. There aftershaves are also really nice. I would love to try the Patchouli. When I was in the SMN shop in NYC a year and half ago I didn't get the chance to purchase it. l was intrigued by the scent density, despite being an EDC. Great video. I am in New York.
I visited their pharmacy in Florence back in 2006 but I didn't buy any perfume! On my last trip to Europe I did get their Gardenia fragrance at their shop in Madrid. Next time I will try their Melagrano. It was also the perfume Vesper Lynd had in Casino Royale. You can see the bottle as Bond talks to M and in her bag on the boat. Tabacco Tuscano sounds intruiging.
Tobacco Toscano is amazing! I'm very interested in seeing how the Melangrano wears. I'm lucky to be able to find the fragrances at one boutique here in Seattle.
I wear Tabacco Toscano and enjoy it. But mostly when it's warm out it's light but I like it's lightness, it smells perfectly smooth on me. I don't know the others but will check the Vetiver soon.
I've never had the pleasure to try any of the Santa Maria Novella fragrances however I think that Melograano and Tabacco toscano would be the best. The Melograano because I love classic powdery fragrances they are amazing during the day and I'm curious to see if one can smell the pomegranate. Tabacco toscano because of the complete opposite the mixture of the smells. The tobacco brings that rain-soaked newly-sown fields, loamy soils. The vanilla brings that smoky vanilla smell that you get when you simmer a couple of vanilla bean. The spices/ woody notes take the fragrances to a whole new level. I haven't smelled it however it sounds very complex and sensual. If I had to imagined how it did I would say that it would probably smell similar to shalimar guerlain but less leathery. Great for a night time perfume)) love your channel ❤

Thanks for reviewing SMN colognes. I love buying their bags of potpourri for my home and I would love to try a cologne. My love of these earthy scents come from growing up in NM. The old Catholic churches, the land, the plants, the adobe homes, and the food. I live in AZ now and the earthy scents may be a little different but still represent home.

I wanted to mention ....LANA.....so awesome....the notes listed ...don't "match" what I smell....LANA is creamy hazelnutty/choc with woods....And it veers "gourmand" IMO...and this one has surprisingly awesome performance on me. A gem !!

I've only heard of this house once before, so I've never sampled any of their offerings. I thought that you laid these fragrances out in a very detailed and appealing fashion. I was in Italy in 2000, and visited Florence, but I didn't know about the Santa Maria Novello pharmacy. I wish I had known, because i would probably have purchased the carnation fragrance. You actually told me about it probably two years ago because I love the discontinued Roger & Gallet Blue Carnation. It was my signature scent in junior high and high school until it was discontinued in 1976. But, being a lover of tobacco in fragrances, I would have to go with Tobacco Toscano. I am intrigued by the Vetiver because the way you describe it as being light and floral-and I’m on the hunt for a great Vetiver fragrance! Visited Santa Maria Novella in Florence in September 2018. Loved the place and fragrances. Enjoying Violetta at the moment💙 my fresh and spicy scent with a touch of vanilla. Very interesting fresh sweet scent Enjoying their Melograno as well!💖
Great review. I own the patchouli after blind bought last year. It is wonderful. Something comforting about the dry down. Lucky Scent has these as well. I have to try the tobacco now. Calif.

"Melograno" sounds like the best one to me for different reasons, e.g. I can like classical-leaning fragrances, the combination of notes in it seem good to me, I may have smelled something like that when I was much younger, and I'm interested in the pomegranate aspect of it. I've never smelled any of the Santa Maria Novella fragrances but I did see your tour video and thought it was fun to go on a field trip with you! :) I think I would like to try Melegrano most. Shame they don't offer Acqua di Cuba anymore. I've seen comparisons to Kilian's Back to Black with that luscious honey and tobacco combo. That one would've been one to try.

I visited the pharmacy in Florence on my honeymoon and purchased my first bottle of Tabacco Toscano. It will always be a special fragrance for me, it’s beautiful and unique. Easy to wear. Halfway through my second bottle currently. Great video; appreciate your review of this house.
Melograno sounds best to me, the pomegranate makes it fresh and love the oakmoss note. Overall, the complex notes seem very harmonious and balanced. Thanks for the clear reviews with your personal story, would definitely visit the store if I ever go to Florence. I recently got into Santa Maria Novella brand, I love that they make natural scents that can be worn very easily at the same time being elegant. I watched a lot of your videos in the past when I was researching on fragrances and it was very helpful, thanks for your passion and knowledgeable insights! My state is New York.
If you buy a bottle, be sure to ask for the (complimentary) sprayer. I bought Muschio the first time I was in Florence as a teenager and have always owned a bottle of that since then. Tobacco Toscano, Zangara and Marescialla are my go to's, but Muschio is OOF. Just the best date night fragrance ever (at least according to my husband)

I have been to the Santa Maria Novella in Florence many times and did the tour several times. I own five of their fragrances and have used lots of their soaps and body milk. The five fragrances I now own are:
Patchouli
Melograno
Acqua di Lavanda Ambrata (lavender and amber)
Violetta
Gelsomino (jasmine)
In the US you used to be able to buy them at Aedes de Venustas in New York City in person at their store or on line. I am not sure if the store survived the pandemic but think you can still buy them on line. Years ago before they were available on the internet, I remember having to call Santa Maria Novella to order something and years ago, I had to even order things from Aedes by phone. When I ordered anything from Aedes, it used to arrive by U.S mail the very next day.
I love Tobacco Toscano. I wear it as my signature scent when I don't want an overpowering scent. Mostly around my work colleagues. I even get some nice compliments from my coworkers too. It's a perfect cozy scent. I'll check out the Melograno next. I don't mind classic.
Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella is celebrating its 800th anniversary and has a beautiful dried flower exhibition. I adore Tobacco Tuscano. It's my favorite tobacco fragrance of all time.
Hi, thank you for the video! I started becoming interested in this house two years ago, so I went to visit the store in NY (I live in NJ). I absolutely loved Angels of Florence because of its elegant floral scent and amazing musky yet sweet dry-down; this fragrance reminded me of sitting on a bench and smelling flowers and dust mixed with petrichor after a full day of rain.
I didn't have the opportunity to explore this beautiful house yet but heavily interested in due to my gravitation towards Chanel-like, fresh/classic profiles~ I appreciate that your reviews are always through in explaining the scent profiles of the fragrances. I was in their London store yesterday and they were super nice and friendly. I bought the patchouli and they gave me a big handful of testers for a few others. The shop is small but it's well worth a visit.
The guy in the store told me that Potpouri is their number one seller.

I LOVE lilac and have always looked for Lilac fragrances - but they seem to be very rare. My mothers favorite note is Lily of the Valley and fragrances featuring this note are also rather scarce too. Maybe you can do videos on fragrances that feature unique floral notes.
I was able to order 2 from the SMN website back in March and it shipped pretty fast from New York to Austin. I think they might have a distribution center, unless that's changed in the last 2 months.

Hi Sebastian, I am presently In Florence (early June 24) and went to the historic Santa Maria Novella Boutique. Beautiful experience and the fragrances were all good, great or impressive :) My favorites in order from the ones I like the most to least are Tabacco Toscano, Patchouli, Vetiver, Pot Pourri and Peau d'Espagne (Nice and strong leather based fragrance). Honorable mentions to the Colognes they have, very pretty, but similar to 4711. A must see in Firenze, Italia, ciao :)

Visited SMN in Florence last year and tried several eau de cologne. In the end, I bought Tabacco Toscano for myself and Vaniglia for my daughter. We also liked Acqua della Regina and Alba di Seoul very much. I am looking forward to try Patchouli on the next visit.
The only Santa Maria Novella I own is Nostalgia. The first time I smelled it the opening smelled of gasoline fumes, which I loved -- shades of Fahrenheit! By the time I got myself a bottle, it had been reformulated and, sadly, the gasoline fumes are gone, or, at least, more attenuated. I do love Melograno but have yet to get a bottle of it. I really should revisit the house. Thanks for the top 5! I'm jealous that you got to tour the facility. I will check out your video. I live in Illinois.
I still have my bottle of Nostalgia when it had its own iconic bottle with the wooden top and also the citrusy Eva with it’s own wooden top.

Melograno has the same smell as chanel 22 ! That is why you remember this smell from childhood.
My family went to Florence a few years ago and went to Santa Maria Novella Museum/store which is a few steps away from our hotel and ended up buying Angels if Florence ❤️
I love Santa Maria Novella. I am very happy to see you discuss their fragrances. I have Vetiver, Melograno, Russa, Tobacco Toscano, Sandalo. There aftershaves are also really nice. I would love to try the Patchouli. When I was in the SMN shop in NYC a year and half ago I didn't get the chance to purchase it. l was intrigued by the scent density, despite being an EDC. I visited their pharmacy in Florence back in 2006 but I didn't buy any perfume! On my last trip to Europe I did get their Gardenia fragrance at their shop in Madrid. Next time I will try their Melagrano. It was also the perfume Vesper Lynd had in Casino Royale. You can see the bottle as Bond talks to M and in her bag on the boat. Tabacco Tuscano sounds intruiging.
Tobacco Toscano is amazing! I'm very interested in seeing how the Melangrano wears. I'm lucky to be able to find the fragrances at one boutique here in Seattle.

I wear Tabacco Toscano and enjoy it. But mostly when it's warm out it's light but I like it's lightness, it smells perfectly smooth on me. I don't know the others but will check the Vetiver soon.
I have Melograno and often buy the hand soap from the London store. The soap is lovely, very nostalgic smell.
I've never had the pleasure to try any of the Santa Maria Novella fragrances however I think that Melograano and Tabacco toscano would be the best. The Melograano because I love classic powdery fragrances they are amazing during the day and I'm curious to see if one can smell the pomegranate. Tabacco toscano because of the complete opposite the mixture of the smells. The tobacco brings that rain-soaked newly-sown fields, loamy soils. The vanilla brings that smoky vanilla smell that you get when you simmer a couple of vanilla bean. The spices/ woody notes take the fragrances to a whole new level. I haven't smelled it however it sounds very complex and sensual. If I had to imagined how it did I would say that it would probably smell similar to shalimar guerlain but less leathery. Great for a night time perfume)) love your channel ❤

Thanks for reviewing SMN colognes. I love buying their bags of potpourri for my home and I would love to try a cologne. My love of these earthy scents come from growing up in NM. The old Catholic churches, the land, the plants, the adobe homes, and the food. I live in AZ now and the earthy scents may be a little different but still represent home.

I wanted to mention ....LANA.....so awesome....the notes listed ...don't "match" what I smell....LANA is creamy hazelnutty/choc with woods....And it veers "gourmand" IMO...and this one has surprisingly awesome performance on me.

I had no idea about the history of the Santa Maria Novella house, how intriguing! Thank you for including some of those notes in your review, I’ll have to go check out the tour video. I am brand new to the perfume world but I lean towards green, fresh, woody scents. I think Id enjoy a woody scent and for that reason I’m interested in Tobacco Tuscano, although it seems it leans spicier. Thank you from North Carolina!!
My advice for anyone who buys that Patchouli is to not use the sprayer attachment. Keep it as splash. It definitely changes its performance.

I was in Italy in 2000, and visited Florence, but I didn't know about the Santa Maria Novello pharmacy. I wish I had known, because i would probably have purchased the carnation fragrance. You actually told me about it probably two years ago because I love the discontinued Roger & Gallet Blue Carnation. It was my signature scent in junior high and high school until it was discontinued in 1976.
But, being a lover of tobacco in fragrances, I would have to go with Tobacco Toscano. However, if Garafano becomes an option for the giveaway, I would love to have the opportunity to win a bottle of it.

I’ve never gotten the opportunity to try anything from this house but these sound so compelling. I’m in South Carolina and our options are limited for accessing collectors fragrances! I am intrigued by the Vetiver because the way you describe it as being light and floral-and I’m on the hunt for a great Vetiver fragrance! "Melograno" sounds like the best one to me for different reasons, e.g. I can like classical-leaning fragrances, the combination of notes in it seem good to me, I may have smelled something like that when I was much younger, and I'm interested in the pomegranate aspect of it. I've never smelled any of the Santa Maria Novella fragrances but I did see your tour video and thought it was fun to go on a field trip with you! :) I think I would like to try Melegrano most. Shame they don't offer Acqua di Cuba anymore. I've seen comparisons to Kilian's Back to Black with that luscious honey and tobacco combo. That one would've been one to try.
