The song Medicine lowkey, when I was listening to the lyrics it sounded like he was saying "Pick it up, pick it up up, pick it up up. But I'm not a sing-" Kinda like him portraying his fear and hesitation from becoming a full time singer/artist and telling himself to just keep on using the medicine he had to start using because of doing Pink Guy/Filthy Frank.
My assumption is that the reason he didn't continue in this direction with his sound, is because he might've been aware that it wouldn't have catapulted him into "semi-mainstream" success. It would've kept him more underground. So instead, he went with the sound he chose that leaned more towards pop in a way. Something he could still be proud of making. Of course, i don't know the guy personally, so that's just what i think. Also, these early tracks would often be related to his filthy frank stuff at the time, something he was trying to keep separate from his serious work. That could have something to do with the direction change as well. Crazy how there's a ton of Joji fans who have/had no idea of the Filthy Frank thing ever existing
Hey Brad, you should listen to the Joji’s pink guy album Pink Season. It’s absolutely one of the wildest album I’ve ever heard there are legit a few bangers on it!
Gustavo Al-Ma'ida maybe not but he might. I feel like the album has its own charm in the way it pushes the limits of raunchiness while still being clever in a tongue-in-cheek kind of way without the punchlines completely falling apart at the seams. The few tracks that deliver harder beats and lyrics on the album are kind of the reward for hanging in and sum up the kind of humor I think Frank was going for. I mainly just want to see the reaction to Donald Trump
Medicine (remix) was such a fucking masterpiece, I’d say it’s legitimately just right below Run for my favorite Joji song. Of course Run is my favorite

The first handful of tracks he released back in the day were my fuckin jam, especially Thom, You Suck Charlie, and Unsaved Info, and even the McDonalds rap off the Pink Guy album, to a certain extent lol. I think it's great that he's become so big and has improved so much as a vocalist and is making it in the music game as a legit pop star nowadays, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't prefer his old sound to his more recent work.
Pre 88Rising Joji was the best era of Joji. He was playing around with a ton of different samples and effects. I rarely like any of his new songs, the production just sounds the same as everyone else’s. He went from creating music for his self enjoyment, which was what he made Chloe Burbank for. He used to play around to make music for himself and his friends and it happened that there were some that liked it. Now he makes music for the general public so I can’t blame him for producing to appeal for a broader audience which betrays this style for a pop style. I’m saddened by the direction he is going but he has to make a living. I’ll miss his Chloe Burbank days, his Filthy Frank days, and I will remember them for a long time.
I never got into Jojis new music, but I always loved the Chloe Burbank EP from the start. It’s a shame nobody knows about it these days. People claim they’re a og filthyfrank fan but have no clue he was doing this back then. This EP is over a decade old. But y’all prolly think it came out around the time this dude made this video. None of the RUclips posts of the songs on this EP are originals. They are all reposts. The originals were almost a decade old by the time this was posted.
THE CHLOE BURBANK EP DID NOT RELEASE 3 YEARS AGO. IT IS OVER A DECADE OLD. AND THIS TRACK LIST IS NOT THE ORIGINAL, NOR DOES IT INCLUDE EVERY SONG FROM THE ORIGNAL EP. THIS IS A FAN COMPILATION.
I always thought that I was just viewed as weird for thinking the Chloe Burbank era of Joji music was his best and the only good era of Joji. Yes I do enjoy some of his newer work, but Chloe Burbank was my introduction to another side of this Internet personality during a time when I was really into Filthy Franks videos. Glad to know I’m not the only one who feels Chloe Burbank was his best work. Thanks for the video Brad
I think there's something to be said about what Joji was doing around this time as an artist, you can tell by all of the tracks here that his way of making beats was super rudimentary and lofi, but not in the way of replicating an aesthetic, it's genuinely just rough and unfiltered sounds that he was doing almost entirely for himself at time where none of his audience was interested. I think that's why these feel so down to earth and simple, he was really just putting together things for the fun of it more than anything else. Once he got to making more professional albums is where this kind of intimacy is lost, he tried to push this style forward by making it bigger and larger in scope but it felt like it lost focus.
I am really confused...a lot of people say that joji's original song were only Thom and I don't wanna waste my time, rest being said "fanmade version". But he himself said he made an account where he uploaded his song for him and his friends to enjoy but someone leaked it...and I am confused. Please someone help
I think Joji is at his best when he's using his vocal like a back-ground instrument instead of using it for singing and treating it as if his vocal is the "main dish" of the track. I can understand that 88rising wanted to portray him as a pop singer, but I don't think he's a good singer nor a good song writer. Him being a pop singer may be financially successful, but personally I thought that made him awfully generic and dull, creating pop song definitely isn't his talent that you could see in Chloe Burbank. He should've stayed as more of a composer like he did in his Chloe Burbank days and should've signed contract with a record who would pushed him in that direction.
So I went through like all the comments And not one person mentioned this... So I guess I have to... Im not sure if "I'm gonna wait" is on the album cause I don't think you reviewed it but... Im gonna wait...
Why do NONE of the Chloe Burbank fan compilations ever include Rain on Me? 😭

I think that's why these feel so down to earth and simple, he was really just putting together things for the fun of it more than anything else.
Once he got to making more professional albums is where this kind of intimacy is lost, he tried to push this style forward by making it bigger and larger in scope but it felt like it lost focus.
Thank you for reacting to my playlist, bead
I love you so much dude
Oh yeah, Brad uploaded
Will you ever review GINGER?

Is this your new calling Brad
Being the harshest critic of artists
At least I get the reason behind it, unlike with the busiest music nerd
I really want you to come back to Jon Bellion. Glory Sound Prep is BEGGING you to review it. Also I’m begging you to too.
Idk why, but it means so much more when Brad likes one of Joji’s songs then when anyone else does. Idk if that makes sense lmao
Glad I stumbled across this video. It was... _interesting._
I am really confused...a lot of people say that joji's original song were only Thom and I don't wanna waste my time, rest being said "fanmade version". But he himself said he made an account where he uploaded his song for him and his friends to enjoy but someone leaked it...and I am confused. Please someone help
We need a Chloe Burbank Volume 2
great review bradley and all that whatever, may i just say: denzel curry unlocked and grimes anthropocene
Anyone else hearing the Charlie Brown song at 2:52
Cause it is.
MASTER OF EDITING
my boi brad on the joji grind 😎
Please fucking do Pink Season, very clearly a joke album but I just love watching people listen to it.
You really crack me up, thank you haha
in a better world, joji released chloe burbank
Plastic beach, when?
