“I always believe in doing what’s best for my students, even if it’s not in the curriculum.” This resonates with me, I believe all teachers should have this mentality. You are so awesome!!
Your eyebrows look awesome. I just wanted to let you know you have inspired me to pursue my dream of teaching. Monday-Friday you teach and connect with your little scholars, && on the weekends you teach && connect with your viewers❤️ so awesome.
Hello, I am a student teacher and I wanted to let you know that you inspire and motivate me. Everytime I see one of your videos it gets me for anxious to become a teacher and to get it in the classroom. I want to wish you the best as you close out on the school year.
LOVE these old school vlogs. It's so interesting to see your thought process when planning for/reflecting on a lesson. It is super helpful for future teachers like myself. Love the video (as always), and I am glad you are handling the upcoming move so well! Good luck with testing and end of the year craziness!
Knowing you have to change rooms before the end of the year is great. In my school, you found out at pre planning which meant four days to pack, get it moved, unpack and try to set up before Meet the Parent time. I remember those achievement testing days. I taught first grade and we had to read the questions and answer choices to them (except the actual reading comprehension section). After three years, the state did away with first grade testing going to third, fifth, and junior senior high school. Love your enthusiasm and how you keep it real. You tell the exhausting or frustrating parts of teacher life not just the happy parts.
I did a long sub assignment in middle school last year - schedule changes sent the kids off the rails. Kudos to you for holding it all together with elementary kiddos and schedule changes. Especially lunch & recess
Omg yay! I just woke up and I was like wait.. Michelle should have posted a video! I immediately took out my phone and saw her video in my recommendation feed and I was so excited and clicked it!
I loved your symmetry lesson! Flocabulary is totally worth the cost! My students loved singing along the multiplication fact songs- totally helped with fact fluency! Can I just say how gorgeous your eyebrows look!!! Good luck next year!
I grew up on the Virginia side of DC, I had a friend who lived in Maryland, and she had lockers in her elementary school! I live outside of Nashville now, definitely not as exciting for a highschooler, but it's still nice here.
That was an awesome video Michelle! Room changes are stressful, but you're right to start as early as possible. If your slippers aren't squeaky or noisy, just wear them for the week of testing!
Here in Ontario Canada, we have EQAO, Education Equality and Accountability Office. Ours start this month too on the 23. Grades 3 and 6 test in reading, writing and math, grade 9 tests in math only and grade 10 test in literacy. In my school some of the teachers are only ½ time so the kids get an hour each morning for a week. Good luck with yours.
I feel like time is getting away from me, so it was good to see how you deal with testing and schedule changes. Our End of Grade tests are moved to.the last week in May and first few days in June...so schedule changes are on the way. Plus I have so much more curriculum to get through....coming in to teach in February (I am the fifth teacher this class has had due to shortages and them having had subs) and they were behind. Here's hoping we get as much in as we can. We end on June 7, but June 5-7 are pretty much a wash Thanks for being you-positive and helpful and honest....
I love your videos. Thank you for being an inspiration. I have been watching RUclips videos to prep for my first year next year. Because of your videos, I bought many snack containers at my dollar tree. I went to get some more because I had come up with some more ideas and they were all gone. I was kind of bummed. I will keep watching for more. But as I was buying them, I kept thinking of you!
Our 5th grade rooms are being renovated this summer, so I have to pack my entire classroom, so I feel your pain. Next year is my last year before I retire. So I get to decorate for one year.
I love Flocabulary. Our county subscription ran out in September. And they said they had no plan to renew--after we had gone 1:1 and were told Flocabulary would be great to do when we went 1:1. We were PISSED and even had a meeting about it. In October, we got it back through the next 3ish years at a special price because our ITRT is amazing.
I don’t know if someone has already suggested this, but I’ve had to move classrooms 5 times in the last 5 years!!!! Take it from me - invest in some of those huge blue bags from IKEA. You can buy them from eBay. They’re sooooooo much easier to pack than boxes and super sturdy. I love your videos! Had to stop drying my hair to add my two cents!
Making my first big classroom move this summer...luckily my space now is pretty small and I’m finishing up my first year, so I haven’t had much time to accumulate a lot of stuff. Excited for the new space!
Just found your channel when looking for distance learning ideas -- thank you for sharing! I wanted to warn you to be careful giving students hard candy for testing (or anytime). At one of the schools I used to work at, a student choked on a hard candy during the state assessment - scary!! Not to mention the class had to stop taking the test and all the craziness that follows due to that. Since then I've given my students Tic Tacs - too small to choke on:) Keep up the hard work and enthusiasm.
I love your videos and I am so glad I found your channel a while ago! I just finished my second year into my bachelors for elementary and special education and I’m so excited! I really loved the opening to the lesson of activating the students prior knowledge!
I have "state"(Puerto Rico) testing next week too for 11th grade from Monday - Thursday. The difference is that I have to read all 4 tests to the kiddos that I was assigned (not with my kiddos this year). Hopefully, I don't have to teach afterwards. If not, I will have to teach 4 groups of 10th grade after reading for 3 hours straight. My poor voice will be gone by Friday. 😣 Anything to help a student though! 😊
Michelle, we both believe the same... doing what’s best for our kids even it means I have to take something out of my pocket or spend and adjusting lessons from the District to make it more engaging:)
ok you have some awesome handwriting on that poster!! Can't wait to see your packing up video and new classroom setup. My daughter is starting her first teaching job in August and will be going through all the set up stuff too.
Thank you so much for sharing all your teacher tips! I love watching your videos and feel so motivated as a new teacher. I’ll be a first year teacher next school year. This year I took over a 5th grade class half way through the year and I’m brand new, so much is overwhelming to me! I need help with grading!!!! Can you please please please make a video about your grading system? What you actually grade and put into the grade book? And what your grade book looks like and how it is organized etc? Pleas please
Gotta love the craziness of testing and end of year schedules!!! Hope you and your kiddos have a great testing week. Looking forward to learning about your test motivation strategies and the flexible seating options. 😊
My amazing fifth grade students will take the math FSA (Florida Standarized Assessment) tomorrow and Tuesday. Last week, they completed the reading FSA. I know they all did well....so excited for next year to see how they adapt to sixth grade.👩🏫
You are so lucky to have only one week of testing. Our school uses SBAC, which has 4 tests that take one week each (one hour a day)! Plus, many of my students have been taking two weeks because they are thinking through every question. Yay for their stamina and determination, but boo for testing.
Ha ! I have that same book bag for my work laptop. Our office of 400 people is transitioning to exclusively work at home in the next couple months, so I won’t need it anymore and I’m sad! Haha I love this bag.
In my classroom every year as we break out the ever so popular symmetry unit I like to download a game on my iPads To help with the understanding. The app is called cut it. In the game you have to break the shape into the said amount of pieces (usually 2,4 or 6.) after you drag the line with your fingers it will separate and give you a percentage of each piece. It isn’t the easiest thing ever so my fifth graders find it fun because they aren’t stuck playing “baby games” I believe the same would go for your fourth graders. It is done with creative pictures and my students really enjoy it as an incentive and it’s great for early finishers as we work through this unit. It is also a crowd favourite during iPad time. The best part of this whole game is that it’s completely free on the App Store. Thanks for inspiring teachers everywhere, love from Canada 🇨🇦
Michelle, your room always looks so neat and paper free! Try as I do, the paper keeps piling up! How do you budget time to get rid of the paper clutter and keep copies for the following year?
I have a drawer system that I use to file my copies for the upcoming week (a drawer for each day) so they aren't on my desk. I don't really keep copies for the following year... I only keep copies for the current year!
I’m in college right now working on my education degree and my goal is to become a 4th grade math and science teacher and your videos are so inspirational! They are helping me power through college
Something my school is doing is market day! I hope you could try to do it. It’s where at the end of the year kids make stuff and teachers give out “ money” it’s a way to get kids up and running but kids have to do work sheets about money stuff like that
Good morning! I teach in neighboring PG county. We have started calling the state assessment MCAP (Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program). I tested last week 4 days (4 75 minute sessions for the week) for RELA and the week before 2 days (2 60 minute sessions per day) for Math. We finished. It was my first year administering such a test and found I really could not teach anything new due to all of our mental exhaustion. Best of luck to you and your students! My school has also begun the countdown to June 14th. We have about 32 days left. I know I'll cry on the last day as I say bye to the first group of students I have had all year long (first year teaching after 10 years substituting with 10+ long term opportunities).
Yes! That's what we call it too... I just couldn't remember it at the time! We cram all of our testing into a single week so they take the math session in the morning and the ELA session in the afternoon each of the 4 days (but no ELA on day 4).
@@PocketfulofPrimary You have me curious how well your students handle it. I teach 3rd grade and these students have never had such strenuous testing. Hopefully, your fourth graders do better than mine--finished some unit assessments in 20 out of 75 minutes. Perhaps another video idea...share with teachers how you prep your students for state assessments--what do you say, how do you give them test-taking strategies, etc. Thank you again!
I love your name symmetry project. I was not a fan of geometry in elementary school because I didn’t have a teacher who loved teaching it. You make math so much fun!! I wish I had you as a math teacher!! Good luck with the testing!! I am so old school with pencil and paper especially for math. Pack away the things you won’t be using. I had that trouble with my dad when he taught because he had his own back office and moving him from one school building to another on our campus was a pain in the butt. At least you don’t have to play Tetris with putting stuff away for your move. Hopefully your students know which classroom you will be at next year so they can visit you.
Thank you for the kind words! Hopefully we get out boxes to start packing early but the boxes may not arrive until the last week of school so we will see!
That’s neat that you’ll have two openings in your grade level! Again this year your school was at a job fair where I live in Pennsylvania (where it’s completely impossible to get a job) and they didn’t give anyone the time of day! I have 7 different certifications, my Master’s degree, and two years of experience and even I wasn’t considered. Obviously not your fault it’s just everyone was wondering why in the world your county was even there. I love your videos btw!
Hey! I don’t know if this can help you but if you want your kiddos to remember their multiplication tables make the different numbers (3’s, 4’s, 6’s, 7’s, etc.) into the melody of nursery rhymes or songs. It really helped me when I was in elementary and I sometimes use this method to this day in high school. Hopefully that made sense :)
This video was just AMAZING! I always love watching your videos! Even though I’m just in 7th grade I really want to be a 4th grade teacher. Love your videos!
Yay! I’m so excited that you uploaded! I always look forward to your vlog every Sunday morning!😀 Like this if you think Michelle is the greatest teacher around 💚
Love your channel so much and wow your handwriting omg! I’m hoping to be a teacher once I am older and I cannot wait to be a motivational as you are to my students :) hope you’re having a good day!
Just found you...Love your enthusiasm! We've been out of school for a week (tomorrow) already! Can't imagine going until the middle of June. But, I'm guessing you go back after Labor Day? We'll be back the second week of August.
Hi Michelle. Hang in there with the testing. We are in the middle of our state testing window here in Cali. At my school it lasts 4 weeks, and I do it with 3 different grades because I am a special ed learning center teacher. Argh. I was wondering if you had a suggesting for the most economic way to get ink cartridges? Where might I find the best deals? Any suggestions you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Have a good week.
Hi Michelle, I know that you probably won’t see this but anyways. I am only eleven but I love to watch your videos. When I’m older I really want to be a teacher and I really hope that you keep your videos going till then because they would be sooo good to watch for inspiration.
I just found your channel yesterday. I’m in 7th grade and don’t want to be a teacher, but I LOVE your videos and have watched them for the past 13 hours 😂 keep up the good work!
Always looove your videos!!! Do you work on school stuff over the summer? Do you do videos over the summer? You are a great teacher! Thank you for motivating me:)
Im in 8th grade just finished the school year but when you started showing the lesson slides I kinda tensed up and then realized I already knew that and also that I'm not in school rn.
I was wondering if your school has special provisions during PARCC testing etc for kids with special needs who just cant manage to do the sit down work quietly all on their own testing. Eg Autistic or ADHD or high anxiety students.

I already have that mentality and I'm not even a teacher (but want to be lol)!
Is it wrong to say im already excited for next years classroom setup video 😜.
Hahaha, I am too. It will be nice to have a change! I'm excited for the unpacking... just not the packing, ha!
I wish you even taught in my county. You would be amazing in hoco

I was wondering if you had a suggesting for the most economic way to get ink cartridges? Where might I find the best deals? Any suggestions you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Have a good week.
As soon as you said you were moving rooms I was very happy for a new classroom set-up yea!!
Loved this video! Kids get out on May 22. I have to go until the 24th.
Hi Michelle, I know that you probably won’t see this but anyways. I am only eleven but I love to watch your videos. When I’m older I really want to be a teacher and I really hope that you keep your videos going till then because they would be sooo good to watch for inspiration.
I’m in MD too and we now call PARCC MCAP.
Yes, that's what it is! I couldn't remember at the time. Thanks!
Pocketful of Primary welcome!
I just found your channel yesterday. I’m in 7th grade and don’t want to be a teacher, but I LOVE your videos and have watched them for the past 13 hours 😂 keep up the good work!

I love your slides. What do you use? PowerPoint or Google Slides? Also, how do you lesson plan for math? Do you use/like the 5E lesson plans?

We did a vocabulary thing when I was in 6th grade and me, being the nerd that I was and still am, picked floccinaucinihilipilification...
Good luck when you guys do park testing.
A Flocabulary tutorial could be an idea for your technology videos. I love the lines of symmetry activity. Such a great idea.
Hi Michelle, I'm trying to find the video where you showed a Mac charger organizer. I'm trying to get that organizer. Link please
I would love so much to have you as my teacher
I LOVE YOUR GLASSES!!!
I was wondering if your school has special provisions during PARCC testing etc for kids with special needs who just cant manage to do the sit down work quietly all on their own testing. Eg Autistic or ADHD or high anxiety students.
Quick question! I was browsing your TPT store, did you ever upload the template for the math slides?
