Restore the BBC to it's position as an honest news agency ASAP.
Or get rid of the licence fee.
I don't think that is now possible. It has been hijacked by politicians partixualry the Tory Party. They are afraid of their shadow now.
@@paulwilson7234 I'd rather the 1st suggestion than the 2nd. The 2nd doesn't "restore the BBC to it's position as an honest news agency". It turns it into just another commercial broadcaster. That certainly wouldn't correct the problem. There's a reason why the Conservatives dedicated so much time and effort infiltrating the BBC at the most senior Management, editorial and policy forming level in it's News and Political output and that's because it is still considered to be a reliable, balanced source by anyone who isn't paying close attention. That reputation is gone when it becomes just another commercial outfit. That the Tories did that means it can still be reversed and reversed in a way that means no political party in Government can repeat the takeover again.
Ask yourself why you suggested that "solution" to the issue of political bias in the BBC? It's not a solution to that problem. It's certainly a popular and very loud call but it's a call made the loudest and longest by 2 types of people; Media outlets that stand to gain financially from the downfall of a huge competitor and Tory and other right wing politicians who have been using it as a (largely successful) threat to force the BBC to "tow the line". It needs to be politically independent of Government and business interests. Opinion pieces are fine, as they are elsewhere but they shouldn't be disguised as News or current affairs.
Balanced news was not so long ago. I keep having to double check the BBC now. That is what the far-right always wanted. They want Sky News Australia (not UK), or FOX new USA to tell us what to do.
Hi Proff, Kuenssberg has been failing for some time , maybe its time for her to move on
She’s never not failed. It’s a perception that is impossible not to have if anything but a raving rightwinger.
Beeb love her
Kuenssberg nasty ex channel 4.
@@martinholmes-ue9koYes, for some unfathomable reason.
Nadine Dorries thought LK was very good at her job. Which tells us all we need to know.
doesn't it just
She is biased and shouldn't be chairing any political programme. Just like the antiques tory on QT.
Bruce is another biased Tory embarrassment
LK needs to grow up her party has lost,
Six months before the ballot sheeple starts changing their minds... with the help of some carefully written MSM titles.
🤔 wonder if LK is breaking the contract between the BBC and licence payers, re impartiality. 📃👂
Kuenssberg is a career climbing Journalist that I just cannot watch anymore. As soon as they say "we'll be asking the hard questions" .. you know it is just the same old stuff, hammering away constantly until someone slips up in the confusion
When you watch Kuenssberg's questioning over a period of time you realise how much of a government mouthpiece she seems to be.
Very few direct,to the point questions.
Vitually no follow up questions on subjects that affect the ordinary citizen.
Is this the best the BBC can do?
The problem is that the BBC political editors seem to take cues from polling, taboid headlines, and party press releases that are used to set the agenda. This produces a circular argument based on "it's what the people are concerned about - look at this poll", which is in itself based on whatever the public saw on TV or online the night before.
She's a Tory so won't be a Government mouthpiece any time soon.
LK is not a good journalist she doesn’t verify anything. She has contacts or people in gov etc that would tip her off and that’s very bad practice. It’s rumour and divisional populist tactics. She also doesn’t know anything ie facts or subject matter. She stirs up conjecture on X. When she wants to ask a non Tory MP a question she will say - our viewers want to know blah. Mah and it’s a reasonable question to bully the interviewee. How do we check what the viewers have asked. It’s a cover for her nasty behaviour It’s unprofessional. The reason the Mone interview was good is that she kept her mouth shut and let the pair walk into the fire 👌The media do not test Farage at all. They allow him to espouse utter rubbish. Tbh the facts wouldn’t matter to his fan club. Alternative reality of chaos prevails. Victoria Derbyshire is so much better - she’s balanced and intelligent and treats everyone equally and gets to real issues without the unnecessary culture war rubbish.
Her defence of Cummings (when he broke the Covid rules) was the most impartial reporting I’ve ever seen or heard. And I worked 9 months in Moscow during the 1980s!
I assume you mean partial.

The power of words and their impact: "20 people have drowned when their boat capsized" against "20 migrants have drowned when their boat capsized." "Lots of people" against "swarms of migrants."

What a stupid comment. BOTH the left and right whinge about Ms K and get selectively outraged. Thank your lucky stars you weren't born when political interviewers such as Brian redhead Robin Day Hugo Younger and Harold Evans were about. They tore into the BS of all politicians/partys. Did you forget to talk about Laura?
Senior moment form the Prof. He could also have been talking about the other Tory stooge, the one on QT.
Every time she opens her mouth the media has failed by allowing her platform.
Just a recap, folks ... the BBC replaced Andrew Marr with LK ... they decided satire was 'expensive', ditching two shows which routinely slagged off the likes of Boris & Farage (Mock the Week / The Mash Report) ... they further decided that Newsnight was also too 'expensive and far better replaced with talking heads rather than genuine reporting and enquiry ... and accompanying this, they decided the Beeb needed to be anchored in 'impartiality'. All of this was designed to nullify the BBC and ensure that its coverage of British news was rendered utterly benign.
Any executive and board appointments since 2019 should be rescinded and new personnel appointed by an independent panel.
Farage flying to America to see Trump. What about his Clacton constituents, and who will be paying for the trip?
Safe journey Nigel great supporter.
Obnoxious, but a price we must be willing to pay for democracy: our elected representatives must be allowed to explore all political avenues at our expense. I thought otherwise until I read _The Importance of Being Awkward_ by Tam Dalyell - I highly recommend the book.
None of this should come as a surprise to anyone. As a grifter par excellence, he knows exactly how to play his audiences, from an international despot to plebs in S.E. England, and everyone in between.
@@frogandspannerI doubt that the taxpayer will be paying for Farage's trip to the US and I see no reason why they should. He's not there as a representative of the British Government, neither is he there on official parliamentary business.
He is free to explore any political connections he wishes, but unless he is there as a representative of the British government or on official parliamentary business there is no reason why the taxpayer should pay for his trip. I also doubt he is there to represent the interests of his Clacton constituency.
Therefore this is an entirely private trip that needs to be paid for privately. The money can come out of his own pocket, or that of Reform or any one of his donors, but it should not come from the taxpayer.
@@chrism7969 He's organised a Pension form the EU - whilst hating it.
It is a sad reflection on the impartiality of the BBC, to have Laura Kuenssberg employed and holding such an important position. It is in fact disgraceful.
We have established political TV programmes that have served some wonderful moments in the past. Too many of those programmes have been watered down by replacing cutting edge journalists with TV presenters. Victoria Derbyshire manages to hold politicians to account without being sacked. What does that say about the rest?
She isnt impartial,shes pro tory
Kuensberg is as biased as they come, stopped listening to her ages ago
The BBC has lost it impartiality quite a long time ago

She needs too be sacked she's a Tory mouth piece
How on earth do you make that out?
I disagree.
Foghorn rather than mouthpiece.
I think this assessment of Farage is spot on. I do think that your interpretation of Trump’s intentions is too generous. The tenor of his many rallies and the words he chooses over and over again convince me that his intentions were not misread by his base.
Nigel the voice of common sense thats why people value his opinion.
We have a stable government for 5 years, trying to do things. At the same time we have a media industry obsessed by culture wars that achieve nothing. If i was Starmer I would be saying lets not engage with media until we can have an adult conversation.
MTG tweeted "words are violence"... no they are not Marj that's what they are not.
MTG is now of the woke Left?!!
Robin Day. You're sorely missed.
What does Farage offer that would frighten the press? He is useful to them, a mouthpiece with no substance and much easier for churning out rhetoric they echo without having to do real journalism that looks deeper. I can't see him doing anything other than fire and brimstone at the RNC, which wont help Trump or anyone else.
The wide-mouth frog is just click-bait to increase ratings. The BBC is complying with Trump's measurement of success RATINGS !!!!!
It’s nonsense there’s any miscommunication. Trump and Farage knows exactly what message they convey. So do their fans. Both also understand why they use the language of deniability.
She reminds me of Dorian Gray's portrait .....the inside she seems hateful , spiteful etc and it shows ever increasingly on the outside
Failings? More like design features.
LK was always `posted above her station`, even when Political Editor of the BBC. So time to retire, Laura? Before you get sacked... Dig up Sir Robin Day, he could still ask the `difficult question` even when he's been dead since 2000... I couldn't see Sir Robin allowing Boris `off the hook`...
Political ias aside, she is a rotten interviewer.
Bring back Andrew `Marr as a start. Kuenssberg has always been awful - full of confidence and no substance.
Marr leftie too.
There are some real interviewers, I would include Victoria Derbyshire as one.
she is certainly streets ahead
BBC competing with Sky, ITN, Talk, GBN etc. Channel 4 News is the best.
Agreed. Gary Gibbon is one of the best political editors, at the moment.
You're a fw years younger than me Professor but I'm sure you remember the likes of Robin Day, Ludo Kennedy & Dimbleby Snr...I really can't thnk of one of the current crop of presenters who can hold even a tiny candle to any of them
exactly
Laura Kuenssberg is no media giant that’s for sure
Farage has become Trump's temporarily convenient British mini me. So many people in the US appear to view Trump as a World saviour and brilliant man in the teeth of a gale of evidence to the contrary, it occurs to me that it is the quality and wishes of the audience one must consider. Stupidity and credulity sadly must now to be assumed when valuing such groups. Telling people what they want to hear than facts and considered opinion
Farage is a political rent boy.
Way too much wide-mouth frog presence on the BBC.
@@jananders1351 Can you remember Guy Smiley, from Sesame Street? I wish I still had my hand puppet because they're worth good money now..

@nickjones8867 He doesn't speak for me; I'm not English. Is he flying by Boeing?
Given time I'm sure Kuennsberg will be quietly moved aside, the Tories made it this way, she being an old mate of Boris, the BBC shouldn't be a political plaything but it is.
Where to start with Kuenssberg's failngs 😂. The most blatantly biased, outspoken and careless reporter and then political editor I have ever had the misfortune to witness. The fact that she was publicly funded and as such, legally bound to impartiality and yet narcissistically didn't give a fig shows her to be of outrageously bad character and intemperate disposition.
I saw a photo of LK cheering when tories had won,and looking like someone had shat on her plate the other week, when labour won.Thats when l realised all those people saying she was biased towards con. party might have a point.
Owen Jones an excellent commentator
LK is vapid to say the least.
I think the penny finally dropped for me when Kuenssberg stayed while all around her left the Beeb. Since then, it's become obvious to all where her loyalties are which is a shame as she started as a fairly good journalist. Sadly now I can see her ending up on GB news or some similar depressing channel!
Political interviewers, effective ones, are in short supply currently in the UK. The days of Sir Robin Day, Paxo, Brian Walden and many others has long since vanished. Laura K doesn't tick the boxes needed to be an effective journo, her bias is so painfully obvious. Her recent interview with a boss from an energy company showed her limitations, apart from a few snide remarks, she for once kept her gob shut, as she was clearly out of her depth.
Get her of TV
Recall the Covid updates. When going to questions it was always "Laura" called first. It became embarrassing.
To be fair to Ms Kuenssberg shes at the mercy of the tories placing right wing managersin the bbc. Nevertheless i now watch Sky with Trevor Phillips for a slightly more balanced view. I wish Andrew Marr had not gone though.
No failings there bud Laura Is a top journalist much better than most
She’s awful
Victoria is or Joe Coborn are far more competent journalists.
I'll say it again, check out the Brian Walden interview with Thatcher after Nigel Lawson resigned. For about 5 minutes he challenged and drilled down into her answer to the first question!
Paxo and Michael Howard was another, asking the same question 13 times. 25 years later, Howard still hasn't answered the question.
Yes you just need to compare the fearless and informative Newsnight of 40 years ago (which had some brilliant presenters) with the scared, sad little program it has become today, to realise how much standards have fallen at the BBC - and elsewhere.
Tory Kuenssberg
What about Laura K?
There are a number of interviewers whose masks have fallen and you now get to see their true allegiance's but the two surprise behaviours are when they are visibly scowling when challenging and the confected, often inane questioning which even Beth Rigby seems to be adopting to provoke a controversial response. As regards LK she is going to have to find new ways of rubbishing Labours dynamic start in Gov't which so far is very impressive, so be prepared for her look of disdain continuing for some time yet
Rigby's always been like that. Today's journalists are more bothered about being famous than the truth.
The failings of Laura Kuenssbergs, Bidens failings,...anyone doing well?
I can’t think of anyone on the BBC whom I loathe and detest as much as Laura Tory Fangirl Kuenssberg, it’s cringeworthy watching anything with her in it she’ll do well on one of those YT based ‘news’ organisations…
Labour needs to replace the tory moles at the BBC with some decent non-partisan experts in communications and media. Looking at YOU Kuenssberg for starters.
Absolutely.
I can't understand where LK has come from. She ddi do the last GE. She is married to a Tory Party Local Councillor appointer. Is this influence or what?
Laura kuenssberg is soooo rude. She's more impatient than impartial. I turn the channel as soon as she comes on
L. Kuenssberg had to do a lot of "not cleaning her teeth with that thing!" to get her job!
Yes LK is clearly biased, but she is also tediously predictable and formulaic in her technique. Point scoring counter questions do not really reveal anything worthwhile and the kind of contextualising of issues in the way that someone like Brian Walden used to provide is beyond this two-dimensional person with obvious vested interests.
Thank you Tim.
Analysis & opinions which are not based upon empirically proven facts, are of limited value. A genuine analysis will be structured around a syllogism with the premises based on evidence which can be subjected to scrutiny. This is deductive reasoning. What we don't get from modern TV journalists is the forensic inductive analysis (analysis based on the construction of a logical syllogism extrapolating from specific individual items of evidence or provable facts). There is populist malaise and laziness at the centre of much modern political TV journalism.
It would most likely be difficult to persuade DT to be Joycean with his turns of phrase, let alone his supporters. Unless, there is a bluff going on here and he IS being sharper than we suppose him? As I said before, he is a mesmeric rhetorician and needs be scrutinized for real intent. He's a tactician, if nothing else. i sometimes wonder if he could convince a crowd that they are chickens or sing like Elvis. Were that his sole intent, I could see less harm in it.
You're analysis is very interesting. You use words properly. That is rare nowadays.
Better than Andrew marr ?
It's great to hear sensible comment on politics, from an educated intelligent blogger for once. Prof, you are a breath of fresh air.👍
The right wing media (set up by the tories) are interviewing people connected to the right.
Labour needs to get a grip of this and reign it in.
Farage chose Clacton because the majority there are just like him.
He'll do nothing for his constituency.
The majority of his supporters are not "just like him" at all and he would take them being compared to him as an insult, if he heard you say it.
The intent behind words are debatable.
The hardest thing is to take *actual* words in to court and prove intent.
Always remember the lesson from King Henry II - "I said these words, you heard these words, but I didn't mean you to interpret these words as ..."
Laura? Where?
Farage in my eyes has a somewhat simian cast to his face! He manages to fool most interviewers with his quick and overstated opinions but I wouldn't trust him with my loose change! The people of Clacton will soon find him out but, of course, it'll be too late to change things. Likewise his small cohort of supposed fellow thinkers now MPs. God help us all! You're right about political journalists - I stopped listening to them years ago because they never get to the nitty-gritty but allow politicians to just burble on endlessly. Or, they interrupt half way through an answer if it doesn't suit their (or their producer's)agenda.
To be held to account on behalf of society..any honest takers ?real honest journalism, radio,tv,newsprint or any other form of communication has the same golden rule
Give the facts and let the viwer or listener decide, its very simple unless there is a hidden agenda, then we are looking at dishonesty at best or lies at worst.the presenter /interviewer

Wow talk about political bias.
You simply can’t give Sir Keir Starmer a brilliant barrister known for his quick wit and intelligence the benefit of being able to understand and respond to questions.
Seriously take a look at yourself before you continue to talk about the problems of journalists and political bias.
Laura K is an embarrassment, pure and simple. Her parents are known Tory supporters, she simply followed them. She rose through the ranks at the BBC because of her political allegiances, not because of any particular talent. She brown nosed Johnson when he was PM, once he was gone, she needed to go as well. Her performance on Election Night was considered by others as poor, I didn't bother to watch the BBC much on Election night, though I did tune in at around 10.05 pm, after the Exit Polls had been announced. And yes, there she was, with a face like a smacked arse.
Sad old man, winds of change are starting to blow through the UK but you’re so blinded by your own beliefs you can’t see it.
Political commentary is crying out for the return of Andrew Neil to the "mainstream" media. An interviwer who does his research & can thwart any come-back by a politician.
What does this have to do with Laura Keunnsberg failings? Absolutely misleading and pretty boring. Usually like your content
It is the media who are the message carriers, therefore it is the medias message that will overide any amount of common sense. An example is Krishnan Guru-Murphy from Channel 4 News. Seldom does he allow the person he is interviewing complete their point before he is injecting again. Also, watch his eyes they are generally not looking at the person but switch away from the camera.
I am waiting for some interviewee of K G-M to simply ignore has interuptions and repeat "before I was (rudely -optional) interupted..."
Isnt it time for our dear Laura to.stop pretending and to stop hosting a show that is meant to require an unbiased stance to go.We all know her barely hidden aggression towards any left leaning guest, and her softball interviews with ANY Tory or right wing pundit. We all know she will end up ad a Tory election strategist or MP.
Prof I just have to say that after years of Trump showing us what and who he is your assessment of his intentions are naive and somewhat troubling. When has this man ever shown he deserves the benefit of the doubt?
Laura Kuenssberg's failings are only too manifest and are pretty much mirrored by "Professor" (ludicrous title for a complete tw@) Tim Wilson's.
