Brothers in Arms is genuinely really good. Some simple squad command gameplay with light tactics. Along with the real stories it echoes. Obviously dramatized, but still feels more "authentic," if that's a fitting word, compared to other wwii shooters of the time
One of my favorite franchises. Sadly, it died on a cliffhanger... "This is not your stop. There's more road ahead. Tell me, Matthew. You've made it through hell. How do you feel about snow?"

Just came here to say Downhill Domination is great! Slightly off what's expected for an Incognito game, and with a great soundtrack - including one of my all-time favorite bands, Cirrus! They were present in a lot of racing/sports games back then. Good times
I was a huge fan of the Descent series of 90's PC games growing up, and it was only recently that I played Forsaken, a "clone" that was on Playstation and N64. Nightdive remastered it and honestly? It's great! To this day the "6DOF" or Descent-clone genre is still pretty niche, and there are some great clones that really get what made those games fun and expand on them on really fun ways. I've never played Hit and Run and didn't even know it existed, but Simpsons road rage was some of the most fun I had as a kid, especially playing against my siblings with split screen with the way you could just ram the other player to steal their ride
Funny I never had hit and run growing up but I got road rage for Christmas without asking for it and it was one my first gamecube titles and played it a lot but got destroyed by later levels
Spark 3 is sooooo good. I'm happy everytime it gets attention, because man, I was let down by 2, tried 3 some months later and just... it still lives rent free in my head. Absolute perfection of the sonic adventure style gameplay.
The reason SEGA sued Fox Interactive over Simpsons: Road Rage was because of the little finger that points the direction you needed to drive towards at the top of the screen. Apparently, SEGA had a patent for that idea.
I game i played as a kid and didnt realize until years was a clone was the Ant Bully Game. The Ant Bully Game is just a Zelda Clone, you got Z-targeting new abilites and tools that let you progess and solve puzzles and the part thar actually made it click was it doesnt have a jump button, you have to jump off a ledge to do a jump.
Glad to see some appreciation for Downhill Domination. It’s a seriously under sung gem from my childhood. Playing the alien on the prototype bike could get ridiculous
I want to genuinely thank you, Austin, for bringing up Quantum Theory. I remember seeing my friend play it yeeeeears back, and I've been trying to figure out what it was since. Thanks again and good luck with the move =)
Other Pikmin clones include Little King's Story, New Little King's Story, and Army Corps Of Hell, the last one here being developed by a studio founded by the writer of the original Pikmin.
@@outoftouchnetwork Army Corps of Hell is a lesser known PS Vita exclusive, let alone title on the thing. It's not surprising to hear some not knowing about it.
@@outoftouchnetwork Yep it's something I've been wanting to get my hands on for awhile now, due to it being a exclusive and such. Yes I'm one of those guys that own a Vita.
I hope your kitties adjust to their new space well. That’s always a hard thing to do. Make sure to check for spaces they can get stuck before you get them there and cover those!
The Infernal Machine!!! That game one of my first non-kid game on the PC when I was very young. I hadn't seen the movies, couldnt read English and the game was way way to hard for me, I think I never got passed the second stage. But I loved it. I remember the sound of the whip and that you could write on the walls with a crayon, and use your lighter. That was enough for 8 year old me back in the day. Still think about this game when I hear the Indy music instead of the movies.
The sad thing about the Indiana Jones thing being considered a clone, even if positively associated, it's partly a contributing factor to what happened to Lucasarts dropping their version of Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings. Reportedly, one of the biggest demoralizers to the team involved was the announcement and release of Uncharted. Not in the sense they hated it, but in the sense that they instantly knew that they had been shown up before they could deliver. When you think about how everyone associates their past try to make a 3D game with the character was commonly and inevitably compared to Tomb Raider back in the day, they knew it would be an uphill battle for them, qnd considering the development troubles they dealt with, they decided to drop the project for the HD version, and all that was left were the versions for older systems and handhelds that they had already outsourced.
For more Pikmin clones that are actually good: -Tinykin is a cute indie game with no combat, just puzzle solving with your little minions. -Wonderful 101 has a full character action combat system but wears its Pikmin influences on its sleeve. Very fun silly game where you gather everyday citizens and sentai heroes to fight alien invaders. Both available on Steam!
Theres a Touhou Pikmin clone with Alice Margatroid and her "pikmin" dolls (Shanghai, Hourai and a few others) that came out like a decade ago which was cute if rather basic
@@BrawlYoshi As it should since Wonderful 101 was made by the same creator of "Viewtiful Joe". Both amazing games, and I wish more games would be made using that wonderful cel-shaded comic inspired look.
I’m not saying six-year-old me played a lot of downhill domination, but I will say the soundbite “busting big air” has been stuck in my head for 20 years
The thing is there are so few pokemon like games because it is very difficult to make those games, like smt V and that new dragon quest monster game both run like crap and have similar issues as modern pokemon
@@catantcha99gonna be real, even with talking about smt 5 alone, it's still weird seeing smt be considered a pokemon like, since smt started with megami tensei on the nes, had the demon companion system all the way back then, and actually predates Pokemon as a whole.
@@catantcha99but also, there is another reason for it. Any time any game comes out with a monster catching mechanic, people instantly dogpile on it because "Pokemon rip off!!!!!!"
@@camharkness I was using it as a example of similar games I did not say smt is a copy of Pokemon, I am a smt fan I have heard this a million times already
The Digimon games have shockingly been picking up the slack as of late. Digmon Story: Cyber Sleuth games are pretty great. I recommend getting the Switch or PC versions, as they bundle up both games & all the DLC. Digimon Survive & World: Next Order are also good, but they're not traditional mon games. The former is a visual novel with gameplay similar to Fire Emblem, while the latter is a throwback to the V-pets & first DW game. Just be warned, the translations & localisations for the games are rather spotty.
Downhill Domination!!!! That was a childhood PS2 favorite. Never thought of it as an SSX clone but as a huge series fan it makes sense that I loved them both.
When you announced Cuphead clones I thought you were going to talk about Cockhead (it's on steam) but I should have known it might be a bit too much for youtube
Man I loved the reboot of medal of honor and especially the sequel war fighter. The multiplayer was top notch with some really good well balanced maps.
I want to point out to this super old game that “uncharting” is *not a verb*. Let alone one your use to mean “uncovering” or “revealing”. It’s an *adjective*. To be “uncharted” means to, well, not be charted. To be unmapped. Unknown. Mysterious. Hence all those ancient mysteries being explored in the Uncharted games. So not only is that dialogue in Unearthed pretty blatant, it’s also meaningless.
It is not proper English but the line is funny because of that. It's like Sam Fisher asking about Dave or Gabe, and then being sad about being the only one left... or Snake asking about Sam or Gabe to do the Ape Escape minigame in Metal Gear Solid 3. Like references that are deliberately so blatant it's funnier than if they tried to make them... subtler.
I ADORED Aggressive Inline as a kid! Great physics, fun levels, banger soundtrack (Student Rick is a forgotten gem of early emo bands). Fond memories of that game!
There's something funny about Austin doing a video on ripoff games while doing an ad read for a game that's ripping off Honkai and Punishing Gray Raven 😂
People who played Medal of Honor Allied Assault or later console games but not the original or Underground on PS1. Remember the "controversy" over female models in new Battlefield? MoH did it before and nobody was against playing entire game as a girl because cooties weren't as dangerous in the 1990s.
Not only did I play it, I fully 100% the shamu sea world game. In my defense, I was a little kid and didn't realize how bad it was. I was obsessed with it as a kid though
Spy Fiction is beautifully bonkers. Out of the games I've played, I think the one that counts as "rip-off" potentially is The Vagrant. Basically a clone of Odin Sphere, but much stiffer.
I thought I was the only one who knew about Krion Conquest, I didn't even grow up with the NES, but I randomly play it once on an emulator and loved it for what it was.
17:52 At the time this video was uploaded - 12th of January, 2024 - CoD was actually slightly *OVER* 20 years old. The original game launched on the 29th of October, 2003.
that's not true, I haven't played Ecco but Cuphead and Pikmin got very fun and unique gameplay (Cuphead not very much but the game's very fun gameplay is half of the part why the game is so successful)
I played Muppets Party Cruise. It should be noted that the Muppet video bits (known as "Muppetisms") were actually made for the Odyssey Channel, not for the game. Some of these bits were also included with Columbia TriStar's DVDs of the Muppet movies, and Time-Life's Best of the Muppet Show DVDs.
One that I definitely think deserves a bit more love and attention is Penko Park. It's basically a Pokemon Snap clone where you take photos of weird monsters in an abandoned theme park.
Another somewhat obscure clone might be Crazy Chicken Tales; a spin-off in the Crazy Chicken franchise that takes heavy inspiration from Crash Bandicoot. But to be fair, Crazy Chicken has also been subjected to heavy cloning itself, in the form of all-time classics like Chicken Shoot on the Wii.
I was on a focus group/play test for road rage. I voted for a different title, i don’t remember what, but I thought road rage sounded too basic. There were like 3 or 4 other options to vote for, and road rage was the bottom pick for me. As we were playing, several others commented that it was just like crazy taxi… I’d only ever heard of the game, so I couldn’t really comment on that at the time. I remember that my friend who was working at radical at the time (my ‘in’ Yo get in this focus group) was hyped that Simpsons cast were in the office, but I don’t think he had much face time with any of them, since he was assigned to other projects. My nephew lovvved the game when he was little, and didn’t care if I’d been involved at all. Well… it was his fav game of MINE, since I didn’t have any other car games. D’oh indeed.
I have never heard Overlord compared to Pikmin. I guess other than them both being strategy games to varying degrees? Idk i havent played Pikmin and barely played Overlord, tho i now will def go back and play the latter given it isnt hard to get and is more RPG/Strategy. Ive also always thought of Overlord as a PC game and theres tons of inspiration for strategy type games there so Pikmin was far from my first thought lol
It's an action adventure game with indirect control of a small unit you give orders to, one of my fav gameplay styles, there's a Capcom game like that, Chaos Legion, where if you summon the "legions" you walk slower, but if you don't, you can run, jump, and use their assists. It's also Nintendo hard despite being on PS2 and PC (port that sadly craps out on modern graphics cards). What else, umm, KOEI has Bladestorm, a 100 Years War. Also hybrid of action and strategy with you controlling a small unit directly.
There’s a really solid horror themed muppets game that’s a clone of spyro and crash bandicoot. I can’t for the life of me remember it’s name but it’s worth playing
Fuck yessss. This game is truly a hidden gem of trash. The kind of trash that is both brutally difficult, copies most of its ideas and also has tons of it's own. I remember when HVGN talked about it back in the day, I couldn't believe it was real. It verges on copyright infringement.
Wait a minute. That t shirt you have on. Peelander Z. They're like, a mega obscure band I saw like ten years ago who were absolutely hilarious. What the hell, I did not expect that memory to be dug up ten years later 😂
You could make an entire video on Wii Sports ripoffs. Kinect Sports, Game Party, Deca Sports, Family Party, and even Nintendo's own Wii Play were very obviously cashing in on the motion control market and most of them were pretty bad.
I can't believe I'm finding this awesome channel for the first time! Great video! Plus you have a Peelander-Z shirt on?! I never see people talking about that awesome band!!!
I reviewed both Aggressive Inline and Downhill Domination back in the day. And both are great. In fact, to me Aggressive Inline is an all-timer. The levels are huge, which have lots of world-morphing goals. Also, you can stack up objectives - unlike Tony Hawk 4. Downhill Domination has an unlockable, rideable sheep.
I actually own all the games that borrowed the format of the Layton games because they’re just. I dunno. They’re neat! Some of them are bad, most of them never got out of Japan. But Dr. Lautrec is still my favorite game to replay because of the characters
One (two, actually) clone i never see mentioned is the Bugs Bunny Lost in Time (and its sequel with Tasmanian Devil that i forget the name of), a very blatant Banjo Kazooie clone, and it was AWESOME. It was creative, funny, used source material extremely well... But it's a licensed game, so to the depths of the copyright purgatory with it, i guess =_=
Still couldn't get over that MoH started as great war game created by Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg, and then become the first game ever received an Oscar for Best Documentary Short Subject at the 93rd Academy Awards thanks to the includes the short documentary Collete in the previous MoH VR game that release 4 Years ago.
I once wore a Ghost Rider shirt while visiting a comic book store. An employee came over, asked my then-girlfriend and I if we needed help finding anything, then said, "Nice shirt." I said, "thanks," then he said, "oh, sorry, I was talking to her. She was wearing my Peelander Z shirt. 🤦♂️
I feel like not enough people played Hamsterball on the PS3. It's Super Monkey Ball but does it's own thing. I'm also a super unapologetic fan of it's most lol. Never played the PC version, which is a clone of Marble Madness lol
I was kinda hoping to see "Freedom Planet" featured in this video because it's an awesome and enjoyable game that hardly anyone talks about for some reason, especially with the long-awaited sequel that will be coming out on home consoles sometime in April.
21:52 Binary Domain is kind of more of a Mass Effect 2 clone: not only you start dismembering white robots like in Lazarus station, it has companions, dialogue you choose that builds rapport with them, and a weird gimmick of being able to say responses into microphone instead of choosing them... It also IMO MAJORLY fails interactions and story as picking up quirky replies makes them JUDGE you and lower your rank or something, Mass Effect is a role-playing game, the entire point is to role-play your character as a stoic, angry, or heroic space marine. Like, it feels good to be bad in Bioware games, at least cathartic. Binary Domain decided to have a moral evaluation of responses in RPG without letting you play Renegade. it gets preachy but without being smart about it like another Mass Effect 2 / GoW / CoD-inspired game, Spec Ops: the Line. Binary Domain decides to replace that with a dating app-like approval system without having KOTOR 2: the Sith Lords dialogue to go with it. Like it wants you to guess what is the more socially acceptable thing to say to your team at every point as "the chick" is berating hero and treating him like she's a tsundere princess, think Bastila but without good voice acting. Shooting is good tho! But Story and writing are abysmal.

Wow I completely forgot about Downhill Domination! I played it on a demo disc for tons of hours lol
For more Pikmin clones that are actually good:
-Tinykin is a cute indie game with no combat, just puzzle solving with your little minions.
I remember the latter game on the Wii U. That game is like if Pikmin had the look of Viewtiful Joe.
@@BrawlYoshi As it should since Wonderful 101 was made by the same creator of "Viewtiful Joe". Both amazing games, and I wish more games would be made using that wonderful cel-shaded comic inspired look.
I’m not saying six-year-old me played a lot of downhill domination, but I will say the soundbite “busting big air” has been stuck in my head for 20 years
What's the game at 0:21 ?
Golden Axe Warrior
Nexalmon is a clone, but man, imo, it's pretty good.
I think we need more pokemon like games. Gamefreak has gotten way too comfortable lately.
Nice to see another person who loved this game!! It was so fun!
Bro! I got this when i was little aswell, thought it was super dope! Didn't get past the first level tho :')
There's something funny about Austin doing a video on ripoff games while doing an ad read for a game that's ripping off Honkai and Punishing Gray Raven 😂
You know you're getting old when you have to explain games from your childhood for a new generation ie the og COD
People who played Medal of Honor Allied Assault or later console games but not the original or Underground on PS1. Remember the "controversy" over female models in new Battlefield? MoH did it before and nobody was against playing entire game as a girl because cooties weren't as dangerous in the 1990s.
Damn, talking about cheap and bad clones you had to mention devil may cry peak of combat
Simpsons Road Rage on PS2 was the first video game I bought with my own money as a kid. I still love it to this day for some mindless nostalgic chaos!
Hey Austin! Have a good weekend man. Appreciate your hard work and dedication.🤙🏼
You did not just call Nexomon A ripoff
@@MrMrvotie yeah other games before pokemon did this
Freedom Planet on the wiiu is one of the greatest Sonic clones ever. It's brilliant!!
Dude, that Peelander z! Shirt is awesome! Ive seen then a handful of times, some of the best shows I've ever seen, in some of the tightest venues.
Darkstone. A Diablo clone that had the distinction of being the first diablo clone that was 3d.
Doom clones are the OG clones.. and there’s none better than Chex Quest
Tornado Outbreak was a game that had an interesting twist on the Katamari gameplay.
The Call of Duty wordplay was absolutely atrocious. …I love it.
It’s odd to clone the mechanics of games like pikmin, cuphead or Ecco when it’s the aesthetics that really elevate those games.
that's not true, I haven't played Ecco but Cuphead and Pikmin got very fun and unique gameplay (Cuphead not very much but the game's very fun gameplay is half of the part why the game is so successful)
Also, bye-bye blue!
Oh come on. Quantum Theory was super original. You didn´t see Gears of War have a dedicated throw waifu button.
One that I definitely think deserves a bit more love and attention is Penko Park. It's basically a Pokemon Snap clone where you take photos of weird monsters in an abandoned theme park.
25:13 That Rhett and Link vid IS an actual commercial for an actual roller rink in Reno (Roller Kingdom).
When i saw the game mayhem brawler i thought ...that art style is just a bit to close to Streets of rage 4
If you make a part 2, you gotta include Muppet Monster Adventure. Great Spyro clone!
Speaking of Overlord. If anyone else likes that kind of thing there's a pretty good indie game called The Unliving on steam that does that idea.
I will accept no slander of nexomon
Alundra is the greatest Zelda clone made, better than most Zelda game imo
Austin talking about February releases. Looking forward to the eventual "I beat Suicide Squad and all DLC 100% so you don't have to" video 😂
i loved aggressive inline when i got it because i was big into skating
The Simpsons Hit and Run is a good Clone Game ❤
I like how Austin won't forget to mention even Rozenkreuzstilette
Austin's never had a good cherry tomato, that shit's amazing.
I... I beat Shamu's Deep Sea Adventure 5 times as a kid.
I loved that game. Kid me just wanted to play Ecco years after I sold my dreamcast
There’s a really solid horror themed muppets game that’s a clone of spyro and crash bandicoot. I can’t for the life of me remember it’s name but it’s worth playing
1:06 what's that bike game? looks interesting
Puc Monster was my first clone game.
It was a bootleg, LED handheld of Pac Man that I still love to this day.
This better have Krion Conquest.
It does
Fuck yessss.
Nexomon and Nexomon: Extinction are awesome games
I love Road Rage. It's so much better than the original Taxi Driver. Deserved a sequel that wasn't just a knock off GTA for kids.
Thanks!
Pretty amusing the CoD1's internal codename was "Medal of Honor killer" and it successfully did so. Not many of anything can claim that.
Does Scurge Hive count as a metroid clone if its isometric?
That downhill game is classic here in my country. It one of my first game included with my PS2 too.
Austin's never had a fresh garden tomato and it shows.
I recently played a game called Ex-Zodiac which was a star fox clone. It was really well made.
Over the last few months this has easily became on of my favorite RUclips channels I’m legit hyped every upload good work man 🙏
Thank you Austin, Happy New Year dude :) :)
Aggressive inline is fine, but what it really accomplished was setting the stage for Aggressive Caroling
