No matter the console or generation, Clones and Rip-Offs have been around trying to chase that money. Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, IT DON'T MATTER. You ever played a Crash Bandicoot clone? How about Cuphead? This here's a video for all the one or two-offs that won't fit in a regular video.

What's a Clone or Rip-Off you think I should check out in the future? Lemme know here!
Also HAPPY NEW YEAR! I'm gonna be moving in a matter of weeks. I've been making videos in the same place since a month into Covid and it's gonna feel weird to branch out and have a change of scenery, but I'm ready! There's a lot of fun stuff on the horizon, both in videos and my personal life and hopefully that'll come through in what we make!
Big Thanks to both Portly and Joshy for assistance editing this one, they do great work on a whim for my slow-ass and I can't thank them enough. I'll catch y'all in a few weeks with another Deep Dive! Gotta do the NOW Square-Enix Quadrilogy!!

I feel like the term "clone" gets used too negatively nowadays, cause some clones are more fun than their original counterparts.
"Rip-off" is still accurate for some of the lazier and borderline copyright-infringing attempts, admittedly.
And some clones aren't even known for being clones; like what Minecraft is to Blockland or Infiniminer, or Fortnite is to PUBG, or Angry Bird is to Crush the Castle.

Nightdive remastered it and honestly? It's great! Man, austin, you are the last remaining bastion of feel-good, yet interesting, youtube. I grew up on normalboots and sbfp videos; one a classroom, one a home. Whenever the real-world counterparts were painful or frightening, i would watch those videos and remember i belonged somewhere.
But it's been a long time since those kinds of videos were the norm, and I kinda just moved on with everybody else. Sbfp are still like big, goofy brothers to me, but they aren't "come over for dumb games and a laugh" vibes like they were. And considering a lot of normalboots have reached "creepy uncle" status, the feeling with those videos has faded too. For the last few years, I've found myself just... rewatching the things that used to feel good, hoping to feel at least a tenth of that comfort again, like an old man looking at faded photos of his past. But your videos, they make me feel like that again. I get excited when I've played the game you're talking about, and even more excited when I haven't. I laugh my ass off when I know exactly what points will be made about some game I rented for a week and couldn't beat. I feel like a kid again.
So thanks man, you're killing it. You don't just make dumb videos on the internet. You make dumb videos that people enjoy and feel safe watching. You provide an actual service to your viewers, not the other way around.

The sad thing about the Indiana Jones thing being considered a clone, even if positively associated, it's partly a contributing factor to what happened to Lucasarts dropping their version of Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings. Reportedly, one of the biggest demoralizers to the team involved was the announcement and release of Uncharted. Not in the sense they hated it, but in the sense that they instantly knew that they had been shown up before they could deliver. When you think about how everyone associates their past try to make a 3D game with the character was commonly and inevitably compared to Tomb Raider back in the day, they knew it would be an uphill battle for them, qnd considering the development troubles they dealt with, they decided to drop the project for the HD version, and all that was left were the versions for older systems and handhelds that they had already outsourced.

I recommend getting the Switch or PC versions, as they bundle up both games & all the DLC. Digimon Survive & World: Next Order are also good, but they're not traditional mon games. Another somewhat obscure clone might be Crazy Chicken Tales; a spin-off in the Crazy Chicken franchise that takes heavy inspiration from Crash Bandicoot. But to be fair, Crazy Chicken has also been subjected to heavy cloning itself, in the form of all-time classics like Chicken Shoot on the Wii.

I reviewed both Aggressive Inline and Downhill Domination back in the day. And both are great. In fact, to me Aggressive Inline is an all-timer. The levels are huge, which have lots of world-morphing goals. Also, you can stack up objectives - unlike Tony Hawk 4.
Downhill Domination has an unlockable, rideable sheep.

6:50 Mat Boson (creator of Shantae) had to listen to the same crap when he came up with our favorite half-genie. "Who are the boys gonna play as?" And I'm like, who are the GIRLS gonna play as??? Plus, even as a kid I would 10x rather play as a girl than a boy. I remember when Pokémon Crystal released which finally gave you the choice, I thought it was the coolest thing EVER that you could choose a girl.

I played Muppets Party Cruise. It should be noted that the Muppet video bits (known as "Muppetisms") were actually made for the Odyssey Channel, not for the game. Some of these bits were also included with Columbia TriStar's DVDs of the Muppet movies, and Time-Life's Best of the Muppet Show DVDs.

You could make an entire video on Wii Sports ripoffs. Kinect Sports, Game Party, Deca Sports, Family Party, and even Nintendo's own Wii Play were very obviously cashing in on the motion control market and most of them were pretty bad.

One (two, actually) clone i never see mentioned is the Bugs Bunny Lost in Time (and its sequel with Tasmanian Devil that i forget the name of), a very blatant Banjo Kazooie clone, and it was AWESOME. It was creative, funny, used source material extremely well... But it's a licensed game, so to the depths of the copyright purgatory with it, i guess =_=

OMG AGGRESSIVE INLINE MENTIONED, that game (and Burnout) pretty much defined what my music taste would be to this day, I didn't knew English back then so I was pretty much going by vibes alone hehe, I've never played a Tony Hawk so it never struck me as a "clone", I mean, it's not even the same "vehicle".
And also DOWNHILL, I was JUST playing it today and I remembered how good it was, though I wouldn't call it an SSX clone since I did play that one, the only thing they have in common really is that... well... you go down.
