VIDEO DESCRIPTION
In this video, Rick Ellis discusses how to deal with losing momentum.
Started BJJ at 73, six month of training, 85 training days, one stripe on my white belt. Lots of past injuries. Most significant of which is a low back injury which is not fully resolved. Bad shoulder, bad knee, need to lose 15-20 lbs. Grappling with teen agers, 20, 30, 40 somethings. I have a long way to go and a short time to get there.
Go man go, just take it easy. 66 year old blue belt here
@@andrewkarl5174 At 18 thru 22-23 I was in the USAF gym every night. Judo, TKD, Boxing, Wrestling. Got a brown belt in judo, a 2nd degree red belt in TKD. Couldn't afford to continue both while in college so I opted for Judo. College and trying to learn to fly ended my judo. Fifty plus years of no martial arts then a couple of years of Krav Maga and I hurt my back badly. What ever you do, don't injure your back.
This video of you being a normal guy that hits valleys like the rest of us old guys came right on time! Thank you my brother.
Rick is humble…”I’m just a dude” Knowing him for several years now I can tell you that he’s more than that for sure. He possesses many talents, some hidden which constantly surprise me. However, it’s because he gets on a path and just does it, as he spoke about in this latest video. I can’t say enough about that philosophy…just doing it. Following that path has paid dividends for me personally. Complacency kills. Momentum is life. Get out and get after it. 👊
BTW, he wasn’t kidding about his video skills. Legendary! If anyone has a project needing a videographer Rick is the best in the business.
I love you, Chris! ❤
Thanks for the inspiration 42 year old new to BJJ, just fought off pneumonia, not contagious but my first day back was last week and I could barely drill my lungs are still clogged. But I didn’t want to lose momentum hearing this really helped. Thank you!
Thank you Rick ❤. I’m approaching 40 this year been training for 3 years and I’ve been feeling the entropy. I’m looking forward to the next phase and this topic is perfect timing. Rage against the dying of the light
One of the advantages of getting older is that our experiences teach us that there will be rough patches and trials, but they will pass if we just keep at being the best we can be. Thank you.
Been trading for year and half. Got a hernia and some stomach problems real downer. But slowly get back on track. Thanks for the video 49 years old.
Good to see you back. thanks for the content! always enjoy hearing your thoughts on BJJ and life.
You articulate your perspective so well.. youre ability to keep it light and positive despite all of the negativity and darkness in your life inspires me.
Thanks for that.
Wow, thank you!
You inspire me just knowing you're out there and doing it but have struggles too. God bless you.❤
This video came at the perfect time! Thank you!
Thanks for making this video
Thanks for the advice. I wish you a productive and healthy year!
I needed this video. Since being promoted to blue belt 3 weeks ago for some reason my motivation is gone, but I'm pushing 😐
Cheers Rick, 59 year old. Training for 2 years. Love the content. Set out to do something everyday in 2024 to improve my game, be it a few squats, shrimps or lunges and so far so good.
Yo Rick Glad to see your back on track and feeling better look forward to more BJJ content and take care
Good to hear from you Rick. I'm with you. I'm 50yrs old but still love grappling.
Happy New Year Rick. Glad to have you back in good health. Your content has been super helpful to me the last couple years
Oss professor!! your bottom mount sweep is now a go to. great clip , 100% respect.
Nice video, Rick. It suits very well to my current reality. Thanks
Thanks for this! I'm right there as well, injured my shoulder while training and been out for a month.
Thanks!
Next year give a longer heads up on the old man camp. I would have gone this year with another month or two of notice
Hi Rick, your videos are very helpful, you can make one sharing your experience of how beginners can remember so many techniques when they start their path in bjj.
Really hope to meet you someday sir. I very much appreciate your humility and honesty. #respect
Welcome back Rick!
Started BJJ 5 mos again and was going consistently until I got a concussion. Then, had to take a couple wks off. Hated it! Wanted so bad to keep going. Thanks for the wisdom, Rick.
Hope you are on the mend Rick!
I’m a Jean Jacques student and watch all your videos. I hate that I missed your visit. Keep the content coming. Hopefully you come visit us again. 👊🏼
Nobody teaches as good as Roy Dean. Except Rick Ellis 🥋
Rick, we need old guy no-gi content! Would love to hear your perspective on no-gi as an older practitioner.
9:46 nothing special, just a white belt who refused to quit 🤙 good to see/hear you back in the saddle.
