- Episode 31: How to Renovate a Chateau Orangery. After many delays, the Orangery of the chateau is finished! Replacing countless window panes, repairing difficult metalwork, painting a green ceiling, and sourcing plants and furniture, there have been more than a few challenges! However, respite was found in plant shopping and discovering where France's hardest working tradespeople eat for lunch.
ABOUT US:
Hello! I’m Vivienne, the châtelaine of a small 19th century neo-Renaissance castle in the Loire Valley of France, which I share with my delightful (and wonderfully funny!) husband, Simon, our daughter, and -whenever possible- lovely friends and family.
This is not our first chateau! 20 years ago, we bought a much larger castle nearby, which we loved with all our hearts. However, nearly 18 years, many happy memories, countless renovations, and several small fortunes later, we made the very difficult, empty-nesting decision to downsize. With great luck and perseverance, we found our current petit château, which we are now decorating and updating with love, humour, comfort, and -of course- antiques and art!
We adore France and its many unique facets: its people, culture, landscapes, wine, food, art, and history. We also love being surrounded by châteaux, both public and private, which we can explore together! After 20 years here, we have learned many things about living in France, renovating châteaux, and appreciating the extraordinary riches surrounding us. We originally decided to make these videos as a way to share our lives with our loved ones worldwide during the pandemic lockdowns. However, we soon realised that many others are at home alone, and it is our privilege to open our home to you, our new friends. We hope you will join us on our adventures in this exceptional location, and we look forward to sharing a little Château Love!

Lovely. I wonder, can you easily pull back the curtains? Looks wonderful covered but those panes of glass are fabulous bare!
Hi Brenda, yes! The track that Simon installed means that the curtains can be pulled in any direction all around the room (except for those behind the mirror). We face the village so the curtains give some privacy at night and also keep the plants from burning when it gets too hot outside. 😊🏰💖
They look lovely but I fear they will rot in the high humidity that orangeries usually have.

I just found your vlog so I'm catching up. The level of detail and color on the outside is phenomenal, very special indeed. Your orangerie turned out much better than I expected! Sorry for the low expectation, as I said I'm new here. The upholstered chairs, objet d'art, tiled floor, curtains make this amazingly beautiful. What's intriguing is I felt the calm energy, like everything slowed when you enter that space. Lastly, I like the history you and your husband pepper into your episodes. Very well done!

The food at the restaurant for working people looked really good.
Simply stunning!!! great job.i can for sure imagine myself there reading a historical novel and have some nice hot chocolate in winter and a nice glass of sweet white wine in summer ooo and snacks of course duhh lol. The way i multiply succulents is lay the one you took off on top of some soil and spray with a tiny tiny bit of water every day and after a while roots will start to form. I don't know why but they just do better that way. When the roots have formed you put them in a pot, roots down and in the soil now of course. It is really simple.. I don't know if there are more ways to do it but this is how i do it and it works.. Greetings from Holland xxx Juliette
