Great video sir! I'm just getting into laser cutting myself, and I would love to see more videos like this with how you tackle paint instead of stain. Keep rocking out the vids!
Great project, well done. A few questions. Why did you choose to paint it prior to cutting the work and was the masking done to protect against laser burn?
Since RUclips got rid of PMs, I will try this and hope you are still keeping an eye on things. First, great video, I really enjoyed watching. Second, it seems that the link for the design is no longer valid. I am getting my first laser this week and would really like to try this design once I have kicked the tires a bit. If you see this can you reply with a new link? Thanks for the content! ~Scott
Your work is awesome. I am new to this and, I have been looking for a layered compass rose file for a long time but, other than the one you built I have not found one I like. Sadly the file is not available.
one of my favorite designs is the compass rose, and other most favorite thing is in layered design! Sadly, this doesn't show me how to make it. I was hoping to learn. And the ETSy sight you referred to is no longer there. So please help, I really want to go forward in accomplishing this!!!! Thank you
Great video! Just purchased my first laser for my Longmill CNC machine. Excited to start learning and using it. One question on your staining technique. Why wipe it off? I use that same stain in semi transparent and never wipe it off. I apply with a rag and it looks great. Just a thought. Keep up the great work!
Great job..I am now getting to laser cutting...you.mentioned masking after painting the wooden ply pieces..does this prevent the scorching of the ply wood a d when the masking is peeled ..the paint comes off? ..what type of masking do you use?
Works like a champ... paint/stains stays with no scorch marks after peeling off the masking. I use the paper transfer tape rolls and they can be found on Amazon in 12" wide and 24" wide rolls.
For sure I missed a lot on such kind of laser cutting experience, but why did you mask the plywood? And why you didn't spray color later after the cut? Just for knowledge.
Masking protects the finish from any burn marks. Finishing the wood first makes it a lot cleaner looking. There are so many edges no way to sain or paint afterwards and not look like junk. I spray my edges with flat black before I take the transfer tape off. Basically its a mess to color after its cut
This looks absolutely gorgeous - congratulations on a fabulous job. I love the way the final piece "pops" with the contrast between layers. Did you just go by gut feel, or did you have any rule of thumb for selecting layer colours? Thank you for a great tutorial.
Looks great. I really like the layered design. It gives great depth to the piece. Curious about the masking material. Is that a really wide roll of masking tape, or vinyl?
@@rbwoodcreations1039 Ah, ok thanks. I’ll check out. And again, the Compass Rose looks awesome. I’d be tempted to keep it. You put a lot of work into it.
Hi, I’m a 61 your old plumber who wants to retire but don’t want to stay at home doing nothing, so I was planning on starting a business with a laser and a CNC. What would you suggest on how to get selling or getting clients?
AWhy don't you cut each piece without paint and without masking.....and paint them later with spray paint?....and glue them later....to me this way is easier and faster
Do you think it would be possible to make something similar, as a tile, for flooring or backsplash, from carved oak or ceder , by asking the moisture out of it, then use vacuum and pressure to get epoxy to soak into the wood, maybe paint the different layers with colored epoxy,. Then coat in a heavy layer of clear ? I do not know that much about epoxy, or wood carving, I ave see ppl make wood for knife handles and such, with an infusion of epoxy to preserve the wood, and seen epoxy tables and floors, and ppl making their own flooring from ply,. So maybe do a vacuum infusion, similar to carbon fiber and fiberglass, it could turn out to be nice or it could end in a big expensive MESS! Probably carve and fill with epoxy would be a safer bet.. I don't really care for the really crazy epoxy countertops, I like the more like ingle color stone looking floor and counters tops,. With accent pieces.. nice work, it's a great time to be a maker!
It looks nice at the end. but the instructions was not. Now you have figured it out. Delete this video and make a new one. We deserve the best. Please don't sell yourself short dont make poor habits like this. Dive back into and learn how to design the art. Be better. RUclips has went to crap after the ad change.
Really beautiful project! The color combination is great, a perfect fit for a nautical theme. Thanks for sharing!
Fanstastic job and project! Thank you very much!😉
Beautiful piece of work!.
Gorgeous!!
Good job 👍
Outstanding 😮
This is BEAUTIFUL! I love the color choices. Wish my OMTech would cut through that consistently! Great job on the frame too!
Turned out great! the colors are really nice.
Great job!!! Can you please provide a link to the masking tape you are using? Thank you very much!!!
Use have an impressive wood shop!

Great project! This came out amazing
Well done Sir, thank you for sharing!
This is absolutely beautiful!

Amazing build mate, well done indeed 🙂
Fanstastic job on this video and project! Thank you very much!

Awesome!
Love it!
If you use a “stain wood conditioner” the second coat of stain will not dry as fast and will be easier to work with. It will stain more evenly.

Ciao, che tipo di carta hai usato per coprire i pannelli? PS. Bellissimo risultato!
Rustoleum 2X spray paint is the bomb.

Very nice. Can you share where you purchased the full sheet of 3mm plywood?
Nice! Curious as to where to get the birch plywood at a "reasonable " cost?
I trailer large loads of it back from north Carolina
How much material you spent to make it?It is awesome!!
Nice project. How do you like the Nova 51/130? Mine shows up in the next 2 weeks

That's amazing Great work can you please tell me that name of paper that you used to cover the wood after painted it ?
Good job.Where did you get the design for laser cutting of this compass?
Much love from Nairobi Kenya

What laser do you have? I have a xtool d1 pro 20w. And how do you design your art? I’m interested in creating and not just grab files from Etsy.
Really nice! Tried to find the pattern on Etsy but no longer there.
HI!!! Nice job on this project!!! I was wondering what is the Brand Nmae and Model of your laser? More power on your channel!!!
Hii sir I wanted information. Which primer and color fits on MDF wood. What color are you giving?
Looks great. I really like the layered design. It gives great depth to the piece. Curious about the masking material. Is that a really wide roll of masking tape, or vinyl?
It's paper-type transfer tape for transferring graphics... works great for masking large areas.

The link for the files says you are not selling on Etsy!?
I has been try to find 1/8 plywood that big .where you get It?

Looks real good !! What program are you using ??
Dang MaWoodshop is no longer on etsy. Any other way of getting this SVG?
That shop isn't selling anymore. Know where I can find the file? My sister wants me to make her one.
Why did you apply tape before your cut
It keeps the laser from leaving black scorch marks. It’s a clean cut.
Is there a reason to NOT cut prepainted wood?
The labor might be saved.
Hi! This is à great job. I would like to know how the design is done on computer. Thanks.
What the model cnc you used ?
Would love to purchase
Never seen navigation or a compass being made like this before.
Where do I purchase the designs. Link is not valid
I'm worried about water condensation behind the glass making the glass foggy.
Damn it! I want those files but the link you have shows that seller isn’t selling anymore.
Do you have contact info for them?
They sell them on a different website now. Google MaWoodshop
@@rbwoodcreations1039 funnily enough, I literally just bought the bundle from them from another site. Lol
Is it possible to do that with the cnc by using a small bit?
Possibly, there would just be a small radius on the inside angles
noooo...the file it s no more available on etsy....sigh sigh
Where did you get the plans for that?
8 months later I own my own laser and have made many of these beautiful projects!
Hey brother the link for the files aren’t working, want to share the file?
I don't like the fact that I don't have that T-Shirt. The video - Great
Do you have a link to the file?
Files no longer available :(
So you bought the design.
How do you price this?
That masking material looks like Pallet tape from the screen printing industry.
which laser are you using?
Thunder laser Nova 51, 130w
How big is that piece
22" x 22"
Would you make a wall clock in a similar style?
I would think so... I'll be doing a mandala style layered clock soon.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
Hi i need to know tue machine details
do you know of any other shop that sells such designs as mawoodshop is no longer trading
They're on designbundles.net now. Guess they left etsy.
@@rbwoodcreations1039 cheers
Ever hear of stereo?
I would have gone with a dark frame. Too much white.
