There is something unmistakingly alluring about Neil trotting about with a sword on horseback, his long hair flowing....sigh. He could be Captain Henry Kingsmill himself manifest again in modern times.
Freezing to death, is actually quite painless. You shiver for a few minutes before your body isolates any heat left to the center mass; the brain releases pain killing chemicals. You feel warm and fall asleep. Better than feeling the pain of any major.wounds they may have had.
What a strange show, but interesting. I guess they're trying to give people an idea of what archaeology might be like out in the field. I think it's set up for younger kids. Strangest thing for me was the white haired lady standing at the fence talking when the archeologists wondered if they would be interrupted as they started cutting into the sod! She looked exactly like my passed away grandmother, so yes, she's definitely from the British isles, because that woman looked exactly like her it was weird!
Yeah they are trying to make archaeology a bit more sexy and with it. Usually it's old men in Arran jumpers smoking pipes. I hope it does appeal to a young generation as it's a fascinating study of history. I like this style.
Great and informative documentaries. The only pedagogical objection is, that here, archaeology and historical research is depicted as fun. Young people could want to become archeologists or historians when watching this.
One of those 'sort of true' statements. He actually went south to Oxford but then withdrew when he realized how strong his enemies were. That retreat involved the famous battle of Powick Bridge when his men were nearly caught at Worcester; he knew he could raise more men from the Welsh March so headed for Shrewsbury.
Apart from growing a very Distinguishing beard. Since The two men in a trench Tony has been very busy. As Director The Centre for Battlefield Archaeology founded in 2006 Tony was part of the World War I investigation at Fromelles in France on the British and Australian mass graves. A load of mixed writing projects including a fine novel The Minutes of the Lazarus Club. More recently the mysterious battle sites of Bannockburn 23/24 June 1314 have found him on a wild goose chase. This respected learned… dare I say admired man has in vain been looking at the wrong sites .One lives in hope he will take heart from King Robert The Bruce and The famous spider tale and.... try… try again. But this time check out local man {found here on youtube as 2001 perseus} hypothesis. Its obvious the opinions of the current school of thought are if not wrong then surely questionable and warrant an open minded revaluation.
It sounds it, its nothing short of brilliant that these type of courses are available. I hope the lectures were well attended! All the best Runrig.I hope you passed!..
Wow. That intro. I'm only 15 seconds in to this video and I'm already a fan.
Great! Thanks. When I was 8, some 66 yrs ago, I lived at the forge in Radway. Needless to say, it was haunted by a cavalier.

this battle and area are of much interest, the village of Ratley most so for me.
This documentary comes across as a bit lightweight, but it's surprisingly good and informative.
Neil Oliver is a moral lightweight, so kinda fits.

Video from about 20 years ago?...
inappropriate and loud music, ruined it for me.
made me think of the old porno vhs tapes my dad kept locked in the gun safe.
Why the silly music ?
What is Tony Pollard doing now? I still see Neil Oliver on TV, but I haven't see Tony Pollard since Two Men and a Trench.
