"The weakest most rusted crusty no damage hitting sword eventually goes on to morph and transform into the best weapon in the game." ... you just described Paimon.
This quest was one of the best ones to re-watch. There are SO many details that I missed or couldn't process that resonate now that I've gone through the rest of the Archon and Story Quests for Fontaine.
It's crazy how these quests already feel nostalgic, it's been a year since they came out, but it also feels like ages ago. I really can't express enough how helpful, interesting and fun this playthrough series is. I don't know, it just feels right.... and cozy to just watch the past quests in such a format.
It's been a joy and enlightening watching this quest again knowing where it all ends. I didn't realize it at the time, but the memories Ann has of the Ordo at the end of the quest are Lyris's memories. Your comment about whether or not a version of teach of the characters will be found is interesting too, because we do end up meeting equivalents for most of the involved parties except Basil and Alain. We know what happened to Basil, leaving Alain as the only one without a neat conclusion.
Now I'm convinced that they chose to make that candy box number four for a reason, as in... Four root cycles.... Istg if they were foreshadowing the four cycles way back then Imma lose it..... Who am I kidding, they were totally foreshadowing, with such a strong emphasis on the number four during that quest.... And the fact that in this quest we solve the hall-loop on the fourth attempt, or rather, after the third, is also kinda SUS, considering that we are on the fourth root cycle
Also, I love how they used the combat mechanics from 1.4 Wishful Drops for the battle with "Narcissus". To think that they were probably working on Fontaine's concepts way back then is WILD. And yeah, they did say that they were working on the underwater mechanics around Inazumas release, but this fact leads me to believe that they started even earlier
Back in the Tsurumi Island quest Ruu says your fourth attempt will be the successful one. He calls it the rule of three (three failures to fourth success) and Paimon keeps saying it should be called the Rule of Four instead
That rows of chairs in Narsizzenkreuz Hall is like one of the most religiously-close place in Teyvat other than maybe Shrines in Inazuma. The unsettling feeling of what was happening there as a cover of some cult society is very very subtle yet can induce some imaginations. Like do you think these kids ever know what behind their role playing activity? How do they play around here? Who was sitting in these benches? What "preaching" are given to those kids? We will never know.
I’m actually surprised you didn’t realize that the oceanid creatures were very similar to the quest with Virgil 😭 The way the Fontaine world quests before the Fontaine archon quests had ended and next stop to natlan was trying to explain more about the primordial sea and what had happened. The whole explosion or accident kind of makes me think that all those that exploded became one with the water and recreated as oceanids or similar to Jak the frog
The music of the looping labyrinth (named Withered Wreath of Flowers) is still stuck with me. I don't know why. There's a touch of eeriness when I was experiencing it, I guess.
58:07 it's so interesting how this, in a way, also foreshadows Simulanka: (Spoilers below) The Story of Durin was also only able to change because new people were introduced into the story who weren't supposed to be there originally. And the Traveler's "blessing" gave Durin the ability to leave the confines of the Story. I truly appreciate Genshin's writers
54:20 i like to think abt this like a 2nd Nahida. Ofc, Furina and Focalors too, but it also has similarities to the Radish Archon. How Nahida herself was born from the remains of Rukhadevata's last healthy consciousness, like a branch fallen from a dying tree, who took root and started growing not as her predecessor's shadow, but as a new being entirely. And just like Ann, Nahida first struggled abt who she really was, the difference is that Mary-Ann didn't want Ann to remember for her to live a new life without worries from the past, but Rukha couldn't really let Nahida know abt the past, to prevent more forbidden knowledge. Also, i think that the one who died, Ney, who was allegedly ''dissolved into water'', could be an allegory to the one that didn't survive the abyssal experiments and turned into abyssal blob, the one before Jakob. Was it Renée? I don't really remember.
Of all the Narcissus chronicles, Ann's questline feels very trippy and I didn't get what it means until I got through the 4.2 quest. Was a bit mad that we couldn't re-enter Ann's Residence (normally anyways) back when I finished it. Also 52:46 no way you just say that, "Mary-Ann" 😭
31:10 this.. took me an hour and doing theories because the environment and if relating to real life or teyvat world building, like how there is sun, the trees, a house on this area, its like a dome or magic
Based on what I’m hearing in the book, it seems unlike the story, the group lost to Narcissus, because they ran out of “time.” Also… 1:10:40. The passage about reuniting… sounds very suspiciously similar to Lumine saying we will reunite again at the end of our journey. It makes me wonder, if this also alludes to the idea that Khaenri’ah somehow gave up their own past and present, to fight in the future. Course, I’m behind on lore so can’t tell if that’s possible or not.
I've read a thread about how Fontaine is so far the only nation without any celestial nail or withered tree roots. any thoughts about that? love your videos btw❤
In retrospect im super curious about the experience of people who both werent aware of renes investingation notes & related artifact lore, and played this quest before before the world of colors quest line. Like this whole quest series is so steeped in allegory i wonder how enjoyable it is without some prerequisite info.
What the heck, I thought we flash-forward to the 4.2 Narzissenkreuz finale coz of the thumbnail showing "surprise Pikachu face" Mary-Ann, when we broke the barrier to her safe space >< I got thumbnail-jebaited
What I just thought was Al = Alain (?) Petit Chou = I have no clue Jak = Jakob Mori = like Seymour but Seymouri lol Ann is still somehow Mary-Ann? Colonel Kate = Cater????? Rene = Ney - OK DAMN YOU MENTIONED IT ANYWAY 😂 but Petit Chou as Ann is confusing too 😭 - the Real Annapausis music makes me feel emotional for some reason. I put it as my teapot music at some point 🥲 I was SO bummed that I couldn't go back but every now and then, I glitched in it to go back before they did a thing where you could actually go back 😂 - I remember losing my mind when Mary-Ann asked about flowers from where the Traveler is from and they mention the Inteyvat cuz WDYM INTEYVAT. TRAVELER, YOU'RE FROM KHAENRI'AH?! 🤣 - you've been mentioning Carter but I guess it's supposed to be Caterpillar? Cuz this video is supposed to be before Fortress of Meropide is out where the Cater and Lanoire(?) quest takes place? 😮 - I love these quests even if I forget most details 😭❤
I think people missed the finer tuned story telling in this region. Neuvilette loses his memories because the Primordial water is tainted with the memories and dreams of the dissolved people of Fontaine. As such he cannot find his own emotions in this whirlpool of human tragedy. Focalors recognizes that the best person to judge them is the dragon who had his memories taken first. Just like they are not the lifeform they were supposed to be so is Neuvilette. He would not have been able to get close to humans unless he was able to see humanity from a new perspective it comes full circle and he realises that when he speaks to Focalors at the end. If Egeria did not commit the sin Neuvilette would be unable to understand humans. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. I think this goes deeper, the Godkings that once ruled the world were similar to Neuvilette. Dragon sovereigns reincarnated in a human body abused the power that was given to them. If Neuvilette takes revenge on Celestia all he does is to continue the circle of war and violence. I believe Neuvilette will come to understand that within time in the game. What is truly justice if another generation suffers from your past judgement.
@@worm2976 The source is not confirmed but it is that the crystal that Veldfolnir uses looks exactly like the crystal Deshret uses and it's chained the same way the Abyss does with the statue of the seven way previously in the game. The only thing we have to go on here is that Paimons triquetra symbol is turned upside down and the "jokes" of her eating the world, has become abundant. They return in Natlan also that she is going to grow into the size of three mountains, and that she has a secret stash. "Paimon bargains" sounds awfully a lot like a Faustian bargain with the devil
I'm up-to-date on Twitch. I'm posting my playthough in chronological order on RUclips, as a means of having all my content migrated for discoverability.
For anyone wondering: Ann = Mary-Ann Jak = Jakob Al = Alain Petit Chou = Rene de Petrichor Colonel Kate = Caterpillar Mori = Seymour Ney = Narzissenkreuz

Caterpillar wasn't part of the Institute of Natural Philosophy, which the Narzissenkreuz Adventure Team represented (he was created using Carter's remains, but they are effectively two different entities in the story).
@@GreatGreenLeo That may be, but the allegory of their names should be rooted in their behavior and relationship with one another. Petit chou" is a French phrase that translates to "little cabbage" and is used as a term of endearment for someone who is loved. Quite surprising how much Mary-Ann and Anna foreshadow abput Focalors and Furina if you compare their respective stories.
