The Paris space mountain seemed amazing and really well themed, it’s very sad to see Disney has to slap an up on everything, including this exceptional attraction.
Man I swear they didn't even get rid of the Theming, it s still themed over the OG space mountain aesthetic, the trains are the same, etc.... And then you go in and you have bank camera quality screens with star wars shit coming for some reason, I ve never seen something so disrespected 😭
I spent so many years of my life where I'd wait all year or two years specifically to go on this ride, the theming was exquisite and really beautiful, it's so sad it's not like this any more. Walking through the queue, hitting the indoor bit with the French woman speaking over the retro graphic of the coaster and how loud it got in the dark corridors just to open up into the space exploration rooms at the very end of the queue, it was such a good ride experience, shame it won't go back
It’s heartbreaking that Disney refuses to create an immersive, detailed and original attraction. I’m so sick of Disney just slapping IP’s on things that were once good. Examples; The great movie Ride at Hollywood Studios, Space Mountain at Disneyland Paris, Tower of Terror at Disneyland California, California Screaming at Disneyland California and more. Disney flourished because of their imagination and now they are losing their magic because of their lack of creativity and talent
A little ironic for the Great Movie Ride, but I think it's a good example of how IP can be used effectively. It used its IP to celebrate cinema as an artistic industry, versus using attractions like a billboard for some nebulous "Disney" brand vessel.
It’s a weird hill to die on to claim that Mission Breakout is somehow inferior to the former DCA Tower of Terror, it is like almost objectively a more exciting experience with the overhaul of the ride system. As much as it was the ToT of my childhood with me living on the west coast, it was always a pale imitation of the original. Also Incredicoaster is _literally_ the exact same ride as California Screamin lol, even to the point that a couple of those “show scene” tunnels were already there in some capacity. You may as well say a ride is ruined because they used a slightly different shade of white to repaint it
The original Space Mountain: From The Earth To The Moon sounds like it was amazing; especially since it had the bullet and smoke effects on the outside, so even onlookers would get a little treat. I really wish I could have seen the original version in its glory days.
In the first months of operation it even had spark effects on close encounters with the physical asteroids (nowadays replaced by cheap screens) but they disabled those effects for safety reasons.
@@EspenSGX I rode last year and the train actually stalled in the lift hill where the moon uses to be (it's driven by tires, not a chain, and they must be beyond eroded by now)
@@ValleDelSergio If the tires don't have any profile left, that would be VERY concerning. Especially for a Disney park. I must say that during my visits to DLP I was shocked by the amount of times rides went down. I mean, sure, rides go down, but multiple on the same day? I'm not used to that in the Efteling, Toverland or Phantasialand.
Physical effects and kinetcism are so important and I'm glad that this attraction was a great example of that. Stellar Way also seemed like such a cool thing to walk through.
As a european, this breaks my heart. I've never been able to go to the other parks and this version holds a special place in my heart. And now it's massacred for 6 years already
I was able to visit Disneyland Paris in 2001, just 9 years after the park opened, and all the attractions were still in their original (and fantastic) forms. I'm so grateful to have had the chance to do this because the more I.P. crap gets slapped onto otherwise unique attractions, the less I'm inclined to even want to visit the parks at all.
I wholeheartedly agree; the OG Discoveryland was one of the most beautiful and thematically-well-conceived parks Disney ever built. But now, I'll NEVER get the chance to experience this wonderful attraction in its original form. =(
if you are talkng about the og california disneyland yeah that was crazy. It was so well themed and everything it really felt more than just a theme park.
I remember the Defunctland episode on this one. Pretty sad to know what’s become of it, especially when it sounded like an attraction that best suit the saying “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it.” Also, really appreciate how much content you’ve uploaded the last few weeks! I think it’s been your highest output thus far, and the videos are still top notch and interesting 👍
I've been in all 3 versions. Man, the original was truly special. That's not nostalgia speaking, it just was a perfect adventure, from the theming, to the music, even the queue through the ride itself... Now it's just a metal tunnel with some starwars posters on the sides... and all physical props and effects are gone, replaced by cheap screens... it breaks my heart
@@NinthShinigami I was a bit worried that I was covering too much ground that Kevin already did, but I figured that I could at least highlight how Hyperspace has long outstayed its welcome.
I miss the old Disney parks unique feel. Now they all became quite the same, using their brands to call more and more visitors. “AnythingGoesLand” is the theme of the day! Another great video from this channel. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I also miss the old Disney parks unique feel. Disney Imagineers need to be allowed to be more creative by the "powers that be" at the Disney Co. and stop treating Disney owned theme park designs like they are now going to an industry catalog like SEARS and/or IKEA to pick out new attractions that they can shoehorn into being “Disney" IP. I hope there are there still Disney Imagineers capable of expanding domestic Disney theme park theming beyond another themeless rollercoaster ride. I worry now about a total lack of creativity and originality out of every aspect of the Disney Company. Funny how it seems like Disney theme parks resorts that are not totally owned by Disney Co. but partially owned and/or not owned by Disney Co like Tokyo Disney resort , Hong Kong Disney Resort and Shanghai Disney Resort seem to do a better job with Disney theming.
@@PoseidonEntertainment I agree! Epcot Center from the 80’s was a great and more adult park, totally diferent from Magic Kingdom. I was a huge fan! Now is a theming nightmare.
@@jakedlp_ At least Mission Breakout got a different ride cycle and it got slightly more thrilling, although the Twilight Zone theme was definitely way cooler.
I've been to Disneyland Paris twice; once at age 14, and once when I was much younger. I remember being amazed by all the Jules Verne theming (I started reading one of his books almost immediately), but I really wish those memories were clearer because so much has been rethemed since then. I do remember being a little bit freaked out by things like the moon, but I'd love to see it in its original state again. It was just epic! Anyway, awesome video, and thank you.
When I was little I was deathly afraid of this ride because it went upside down and was in the dark. I would stick to Big Thunder Mountain as my main thrillride, and would do other stuff with my mom as my dad and sister went on Space Mountain. One year they finally managed to convince me to join them, and I was absolutely terrified as I waited in line. Of course when we arrived back into the load station I was ecstatic and wanted to ride again right away. As we went home I couldn't wait to go back and experience it many more times. Only a few months later they announced they would update the ride with Mission 2, so I never got to ride it again. Life got in the way and I never got to go back to Disneyland until only two years ago, where I did Hyperspace Mountain for the first time. Suffice to say it was fun but nothing compared to the ride it used to be. But when the cart approaches the projection of the star destroyer, and I squint my eyes, I can still see the grinning moon that's been permanently engraved in my mind ever since back then.
When I was stationed in Germany, I had to travel to Paris often for work. On one trip, I drove just so I could hit Euro Disney. I rode Hyperspace Mountain (and am just now finding out how new it was at the time). I was confused, to say the least by the overall ride experience. Thanks for explaining the series of decisions that created this Frankenstein monster of a coaster. Also, yikes.
I remember going on the original as a kid (it was my first experience with a loop-). To this day it is still one of the most immersive rides I've ever been on. The light and theming was actually insane. I legit believed I was in outer space, when you came up on the sun it was beautiful. I went in again couple of years ago and being absolutely destroyed that they just slapped Star Wars on this, and basically removed every single light in the building. It's near pitch black inside and it doesn't feel like outer space at all anymore.
Oh wow. Recently, I was thinking “man, it would be really cool if you covered this topic” and here you are, covering it. I am really looking forward to seeing this.
The star wars overlay, while used permanently, isn't actually permanent. All elements are still in place but covered up. An updated version of de la Terre a la Lune is still possible and in my opinion, much needed. The new cars are far from Star Wars and with a fixed interior queue (the current one feels like a shipping container) it would be very welcome indeed
I will point out that Space Mountain Mission 2 wasn't just a generic sci fi ride, but actually a sequel to the original ride. (Hence the mission 2) it's kinda vaguely explained in the second to last room of the queue that after the success of the Moon mission previously, the Baltimore Gun Club had recharged the Columbiad Cannon to shoot further out into space. And now guests are boarding the new bullet ships on a mission to see a supernova and study it
Also. I Completely agree that Hyperspace mountain shouldn't be permanent. I think it's a half baked version of that concept anyways and those new trains need to be put in a story they actually fit. I'd be ok with either previous missions returning or even a Mission 3, but Star Wars needs to leave
However, the original De la Terre a la Lune version had a lot more period specific theming that really nailed the "1900s silent movie" feel (the Stellar Way, space mining equipment, Jules Verne cameo, the smiling moon). Mission 2 was a sequel in that it retained some superficial story elements, but once the ride began...it was thematically indistinguishable from any other version of Space Mountain. I think a big part of the problem was the original name change from Discovery Mountain to Space Mountain during development, since the more unique take would be inevitably compared to the other rides as opposed to being its own thing. Mission 2 made Space Mountain more Space Mountain in the Tomorrowland sense, but largely distanced it from the period elements that made the original Discovery Mountain concept unique.
Love your content! My wife and I have converted from WDW to UOR passholder. While everything is an IP at UOR, they offer a better consumer experience. Growing up my parent's would take my brothers and I to WDW regularly. I have great memories from those trips memories of rides that didn't have star wars, marvel, and princess slaped on every ride. Keep up your hard work plz. My wife, brother, daughter, and I appreciate your work!
Similar story as my parents took my sister and I to Walt Disney World a lot as children. Everything changes over time but WDW did not upgrade when making changes. If anything, it feels more bland and generic than before.
I miss the old space mountain and I wish Disney would see the potential in the whole steampunk victoriana aesthetic. Theres so much to explore in that industrial revolution time period. What they did to Tim Delaneys masterpiece is from a theming perspective, the most confusing and most heavy handed presentation of the way disney has lostits way opting for stupid overlays that lose appeal when the IP becomes stagnant or oversaturated. Notice how disneys longest lasting attractions are often not IP based. Like haunted mansion, pirates, btmr and the original space mountain. Thats how it should be with DLP space mountain. The fact that DLP is a fairly big financial pit for disney is purely down to their lack of investment and the price of a stay. If they fixed that it would be much more of a destination. Why would you revisit every few years if theres literally no changes? I have all the blueprints and stuff for this space mountain and have been tempted in the past to recreate it in VR.
Ah, but it seems that with every change, somehow things get worse? I don't hate the new Phantom Manor, but I can't say that its pacing is better than the original.
@@PoseidonEntertainment I haven't been on the new one but the fact is that they haven't added a permanent overlay for good reason. I'm hoping they don't retrospectively adapt them all to the upcoming movie though. It would break the entire story of frontier land at DLP given it has a totally different and all encompassing story throughout the land differing from the story of the US parks and tying it into BTMR very nicely. Disney could make such a great film based on the original DLP space mountain story because there is prior art. It would be a fantastic story to see the Columbiad in all its glory and follow the actual story of de la Terre a la lune and it would then give them a reason to return it to its former glory. I just hope that eventually they oversaturate themselves with IP and return to their roots.
As someone who grew up in the 90s with a lot of the more classic attractions at EPCOT, Magic Kingdom, etc, few things rub me the wrong way as the stripping down of timeless and educational properties in favor of key-jangling "look, it's [insert character name here!]" style rides. I can appreciate a lot of the tech and engineering that goes into them, but the fact is, they're a cheap design route and lack what made the original rides so fascinating and unique.
I agree for sure. Cosmic Rewind is a fantastic coaster without the Guardians of the Galaxy. If you removed them and put in a more interesting theme, it would still be a hit.
A lot of Disneyland Paris fans still regularly ask for the moon to return the original Jules Verne theme doesn't match starwars. And yes im super salty about it
As a Jules Verne fan, this one hurt especially. Because they even kept the 'Mysterys of the Nautilus' walkthrough (even though that attraction has also been massacred nowadays). And they didn’t change the exterior of Space Mountain and even some of the parts of the Queue still have remnants of the original theme
The Jules Verne-inspired theming that was going on in Paris' Discovery Land really gave Disneyland Paris its own particular face and vibe. It was inspired and atmospheric and most important of all, it had a soul. It's sad to see how they largely got rid of these unique and peculiar vibes that the park (or at least that part of the park) could really call its own in favor of themes that you could basically find anywhere else. The removal of the "De la Terre à la Lune" theme in Space Mountain is one example. The removal of that epic giant squid in the Nautilus walkthrough - in favor of some Discovery Channel screen showing a few fish - is another one. Don't get me wrong, Disneyland Paris still is an aesthetically beautiful park, but they did suck the individuality out of some of the attractions and sightings, which is a shame. I hope in the future the management - or a change of management - will bring back some of that heart and soul. One can only hope.
2:34 - Oh my god you found a clip of the original cannon effect! I spent *years* trying to find a clip of that effect working, I remembered it from when I was a kid but couldn't find any evidence of it actually existing. It was only around a month ago I managed to find a clip of it by Magical Themepark Adventures, and then another by Tramat.
I found various recreations useful in getting a better understanding of the layout. I've found that there's a lot of misinformation about what kind of inversions are in the ride.
The current IP-fication of the parks has been disappointing to me as a local to WDW. It's a shame to know how badly it's happening at the international parks as well. In a Star Wars themed ride, you're forced to tell a canon Star Wars story... and that goes for any other IP as well. With an open theming like they've done in the past, there are so many opportunities to be creative and that's how we wind up with awesome attractions like this one once was!!
I loved Space Mountain when I rode it back in 2001. The theming was impeccable. The indoor light fixtures even had screws in the shape of a sun with the letter S on it. Such attention to detail. Sad to see how Disney lost it completely. Last time I was there, in 2018, I hardly recognized the park and lots of rides were closed and broken. A hugely disappointing visit that quelled my enthusiasm for theme parks in general and Disney's in particular.
The only time I went DLP was when Mission 2 was up and running. Not only was I too short for the ride, but I was TERRIFIED to go on because of the inversions. The one thing that did bring me joy was looking at it and seeing the cannon go off, launching the coaster. It was so cool and when I found that it was slapped with an IP and the cannon doesn't go off anymore, my heart sank. I will probably never get to ride it in its original, creative form and it's a shame that there is such a lack of real creativity and staying power of these rides and overlays these days.
Original footage of the queue and the ride itself will never do it justice. I'm sad ill never experience it they way it was intended in person. Luckily, there's some cool reconstructions by fans online.
It seems like such a beautiful park, I wish it was taken care of better. I see a lot of rumors flying around that the Hyperspace overlay will be removed, but does that have credibility or do you think it's just wishful thinking?
'From the Earth to the Moon' used to be my favorite rollercoaster. The last 10 times (or so) I've visited HyperSpace Mountain, it was meh. Really, really meh. Paris' Big Thunder Mountain is now much better. Bring back 'the Moon'!!!
@@PoseidonEntertainment Nah, I rode all 3 versions and without a doubt, the og was actually the best one. It had the most effects & the score was amazing and linked up to the visuals perfectly. It felt like you were getting launched out of a cannon as smoke was produced. From the outside, it looked awesome seeing the cannon launch people 'into the sky'. Mission 2 was ok but was actually a step back from the og theme. I can understand those changes though, they tried to make it more modern. The Hyperspace is easily the worst of all 3, and actually just makes this a pretty lame coaster... It's worse than the indiana jones ride or thunder mountain, it used to slap those rides up easily. The star wars theme is lazy and detracts from the experience.
I was a young Jules Verne fan before Steampunk became cool 😂, and when I was a child I loved Discoveryland and Space Mountain so much. I was so sad for the Star Wars version... I love Star Wars, but not in my golden Space Mountain.
I PRAY you will see this. I make these requests to every single big Disney documentary makers. You should make a story on the history of Disneyland Trading Pins. From their Iconic start in Epcot in 2000 to today’s massive trading in parks and pin trade events going on since then.
I never been to Disneyland Paris, so I haven't been on "Space Mountain: From the Earth to the Moon", from your video I can tell it was cool. Its disappointing what they did to it with the changes, however, personally I actually like the name "Space Mountain: Mission 2", its so cliche and campy but I like the name, thats all I like about the first retheme though.
It's a disgrace. Space Mountain had an original theming tying well with France and Jules Verne, all but destroyed by corporate synergy. I'm sick and fed up of Disney haphazardly slapping Star Wars everywhere. Star Tours already existed! Give us the original Space Mountain: De La Terre à La Lune! I will always have fond memories of this ride back in nineties as a kid. Columbiad cannon, Electro De Velocitor
I really hope that this attraction gets a new rebranding that looks like a mix of the first two versions! And bring back the use of the cannon and the smoke effects outside c'mooon
ME TOO and when I got to ride it, it was like a dream come true. Went recently and the Hyperspace version SUCKS, it's now one of the worst coasters in DLP.
So hard to watch. Disneyland Paris has such a bad start, but the park itself seems like it was beautiful. The Jules Verne theming on space mountain was inspired, and the imagineers always wanted to infuse more of that into the parks. They finally got to, and after such a short run, it gets the Star Wars treatment.
I remember going to Disneyland Paris when I was like 4, (so original space mountain) I wanted to go onto Space Mountain and was jealous my Dad went on it. I've still never been on it and never will because of Star Wars overlay, so I could never appreciate what it was supposed to be ! 😢 Love your videos keep it going ❤
I’ve never been on to any Disneyland but I always remember specifically seeing marketings for Space Mountain in Paris on direct to dvd vhs movies and the way they marketed it made me so fascinated by it, they really made it look and sound like it was a whole experience. It was this one, 6:22. I still holds up. Only for me I watched the Swedish version and the guy reading it had the coolest voice making it sound even more epic.
I worked on Star tours in Paris and the original space mountain was amazing, it was perfectly steam punk themed to match the Earth to the moon story and the music was phenomenal. A lot of people miss it but Disney had to turn into another Star Wars cash grab
The biggest pro gamer move they could do but choose not to for some reason: - Revive any of the Jules Verne IPs they have worked on in the past and restore all the themed rides for new and old generations to discover again. Literally make it Discovery Island for new people. They have or have had Verne in what feels like half the parts already, just revive those with a good movie and suddenly they'd have a profitable IP again to use that they already have plenty of plans, rides, or designs for.
Honestly Euro Disneyland, for all the good it had, probably should've never happened. Because of it's BIG financial failures, we never got Tomorrowland 2055, instead getting a cheap overlay with the ill fated Rocket Rods. We never got a cool 2nd gate in California like Westcot. Eisner hired Paul Presler, who was basically the Bob Chapek to the theme back in the late 90s, and cause some of this stuff. I know I sound angry, but just imagine the stuff we missed out on.
Another well crafted video! Sad to see a unique and superior theme attraction be marginalize for the sake of reimagining. It looked like Paris Disneyland had a well theme E-Ticket attraction that complimented the theme of Discoveryland. WIth the departure of From the Earth to the Moon, it appeared the Disney turned it back on the steampunk vision of the Future. Now I am curious how well this land functioned including complimentary attractions and the overall atmosphere. I suppose the space mountain concept was Disney's second attempted of including a roller-coaster within their park after the Matterhorn which is also classified as a waterride. But with space mountain, the ride became a combination of a dark ride and a roller-coaster. I mostly have been familiar with the Disneyland version and later becoming aware that the Magic Kingdom coaster preceded that one. But both are devoid much theming. Except for the technology available at the time. And the Cosmic Rewind and the not mentioned Rock and Roll Coaster are also more extreme coasters in the dark. The bluesky of image of the volcano would have been incredible ... The Indiana attraction in Anaheim also had more dynamic interactions with the neighboring jungle cruise. ... I am not sure if we will see multiple attractions intertwined in the future. Besides the backstory theme, the other benefit that the Paris Space Mountain benefited from has been the improvement of the queue line experience. After space mountain in Anaheim, we saw a more immersive queue line experience with Big Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain and Indiana Jones. Both space mountain at MK and DL pale in comparison to the original iteration of Paris version. Immersive queue line lessened the pain of the wait :-) . at least better than the monitor solution at many other parks.
Ugh this is absolutely the saddest story of a great attraction becoming a total cashgrab. I loved the original theming of the ride and it’s a shame I won’t be able to experience it as it was originally designed. My only hope is that since Disney is a company that is known to bank on nostalgia, that they will eventually remove the Hyperspace Mountain theming and revive the original attraction with updated effects. They sort of did this at California Adventure, with Soarin’ Over California coming back as a limited offering in-between Soarin’ Over The World. The new steampunk cars at SM Paris also give me hope that they don’t plan to stick with the Star Wars theming forever. Thanks for this video! I’m glad to find others that share in the sentiment about this attraction.
I know you probably don't mean new NEW steampunk trains, but obviously these have been there since 2016 or something? Disney really need to wake up, change it back to mission 2 or a mission 3.
I still feel upset that i couldnt ride the original version of the paris space mountain. We used to go every year to dlp and i was never tall enough to ride it! On my 3 recent trips i was able to ride hyperspace and as a star wars fan i liked it the first time, but yeah this ride is really missing out on being one of the best. The theming was so unique for a ride that already existed in other parks, just like phantom manor compared to haunted mansion. I hope they bring back space mountain because i would love to ride it :(
I don't know who it was inside Imagineering who convinced them that the new trains should still be steampunk styled, but one day when this talentless, corporate era of Disney creative has passed, and this ride returns to it's original, dignified form... That guy will be the silent hero who kept their foot blocking the door to make sure it was still a possibility
I'm not really sure if Disney will evolve beyond Iger. I have a feeling that it's going to struggle once he leaves and it'll be a long while before another creative takes the helm.
That ride looks fast! Also, the music in that advertisement was actually music from the Alton Towers black hole… I’d love a video on UK theme parks. Especially the old and new dark rides.
I wouldn't have known that it was the same music. Do you know what the track is called? Black Hole looks interesting but it would be difficult to do a video on because there's not really any good footage of it out there.
I’m sure I’ve asked this before, but would you ever consider an episode on hyper-themed chain restaurants? Stuff like Rainforest Cafe, Hard Rock Cafe, and Planet Hollywood instantly comes to mind when thinking about destination theme park level experiences without having to travel to Florida or California. Especially interested to hear your thought on Rainforest since it’s essentially like eating in a dark ride show building.
Star Wars/Captain Eo while being an outlier not having that steampunk aesthetic and vibe, was always cleverly integrated. I’m paraphrasing with this but in a tour I watched from Tony Baxter, he described Lucas as the modern day sci-fi dreamer equivalent to Verne and Wells and the X-Wing on the top of the facade mirroring the other types of transportation seen around the land. However I’ve always been disgusted that this overlay still remains, it feels so tacky and the issue is I don’t think most guests really care unfortunately, it screams of an amusement park overlay IP tie in like Batman the ride, despite it being incased in this beautiful covering of what was intended…
On finishing the video, I am a bit disappointed that I wrote the script the way I did. The steam-punk theming is a nice way to tie everything in Discoveryland together but it was still designed in an era where each land contained a variety of thematically eclectic attractions, so I can't really fault it for that. An entire land based on European science fiction would be cool today though.
For someone who went to DLP for first time last year with no clue that that SM was different for the American parks, I loved seeing the Verne theming. However, it very much frustrated me that I couldn’t see it how it was meant to be, especially since SW is a dying/dead IP at the moment. Even if you love SW, it makes no sense for it to be there long term with Verne theming!
Someone made this ride in its original form in NoLimits 2. I've been riding it in VR, and it is very fun. I'm gobsmacked that they'd cover up the part of the queue that goes through the attraction. That's genuinely insane and baffling.
I recently rode this space mountain, and the star wars theme is fine… as a temporary overlay. I DESPERATELY WISH TO RIDE THIS AGAIN WITH THE OG THEMING
I've been to the original Space Mountain and absolutely loved it. I came back a few years later to find it all converted to Star Wars, in a honestly pretty half-arsed way, which made me really sad. The original was one of the best themed roller coasters I have ever been on, the new one just doesn't fit in the land, doesn't look good and just makes no sense overall.
I was disappointed with the theming of the ride when I went to Disneyland Paris for the first time back in 2019. The coaster itself was intense, but thrilling. But the biggest downside of the experience itself is having an IP slapped on that does not fit in with the aesthetics of the attraction.
They need to remove Hyperspace Mountain and bring back the OG with new stuff like Mission 2, combining the two into a new version of Space Mountain with the Fly to the Moon elements. I would even want to see a happy Cartoon Moon and the canon fire too.
Spot-on. I was there in 1997 as a kid and immediately fell in love with the Jules Vernes themed Space Mountain. When I returned in 2008 to show my ex gf what an awesome ride it was, nonetheless wanting to experience some long-lost nostalgia, I was very disappointed that nearly everything that made this ride such a great experience was stripped. It struck me as lack of maintenance, cost-saving cornercutting and a very cheap attempt to squeeze out a few more bucks over the backs of the returning fans. Save to say that when I visited the attraction again in 2017, now rebranded Star Wars, I had lowered my expectations thus much and even then it was a disappointing experience. I returned once more with my gf for the New Years eve event, but DisneyLand Paris is a sad reminder of a once great initiative, now turned into a bitter, expensive and capitalistic overcrowded reflection of todays consumer society. 'De Efteling' in Holland is a 1000x better choice if you're contemplating to visit a theme park in Europe.
When a ride features dynamic physical features that make it look unique and spectacular, like the locking barrel effect on the original Paris Space Mountain, that generally equates to high maintenance costs needed to keep those features working. And we know that in the Disney of the Bobs era that anything that costs money, no matter how much it adds to the visitor experience, gets eliminated sooner or later.
As a major Star Wars fan I must say: I LOVE hyperspace mountain, as you said I think its a great season overlay for space mountain. But it should 100% be May only, if not the first two weeks of May alone. The problem as you mentioned was that its an overlay that has become a de-facto rebrand, despite the original theming present. I think if Disney were to go full-bore, and retheme the building, ques, and remaining original ride elements to Star Wars then it could be a successful concept. But this half-assed attempt to market the ride neither compares to the other Disney Star Wars rides, nor is as thematically consistent an experience as Space mountain or Cosmic rewind.
I rode this when it was still Jules Verne themed. It was enchanting. I was like, 12, 0:03 and sick, and felt awful. It was so magical and just made everything feel better for a few seconds. I'm sad to see how it's been treated.
I was there not to long ago and while the star wars version is fun and even very cool in some places when lasers are whizzing past you I wish I would be able to experience the original version it looks way more detailed and cool. I'm very glad that so rumor says that a more original version will return in the coming years
Back when I can afford to go to Disneyland every time I went, this roller coaster was closed for maintenance. I haven’t been back to Disneyland in over 15 years and never plan on returning.
5:38 "The Nautilus would contain an underwater restaurant" Ah yes, I would love to finally try Captain Nemo's famous pudding, made from octopus fetuses.
So sad that Disneyland Paris haven’t followed the original plan of the Jules Vernes “land” foreseen by Eurodisney… It was sooo beautiful when this section opened !
An expansion for the land to bring more of "Discovery Bay" into it would have been a great way to keep it fresh over the years. Too bad it exists as it does today.
I legitmatley cannot fathom what the brain-dead executive who ordered the redesign was smoking. The design is the DEFINITION of timeless; Disney Star Wars is not
I was a bit hesitant to do a video like this because he already covered it so well, but I thought it was worth highlighting the egregious Star Wars overlay that's been there for 5 years.
@@PoseidonEntertainment it was a good highlight. We went from a cool Jules Verne steampunk to Star Wars, not even cool star wars or even give it another shot Star Wars.
I can't lie as sad as this may sound, I like the star wars theming as I grew up with star wars, the star wars theme also got me over my fear of rollercoasters as it made me want to try it
At this point it's more Star Wars land than Discoveryland. I don't care about Star Wars. I'm sick of the original ideas being eroded in favour of cheap and lazy IPs on everything.
Yeah they really ruined this. The cannon doesn't even fire anymore, which is such a shame, it was so cool to watch. I don't even bother with this ride any more when I go, it lost all it's charm for me.
This is why I haven't been inside Disneyland in years. Despite being a former CM for 8+ years. It's just all a lazy film franchise cash grab.
I spent so many years of my life where I'd wait all year or two years specifically to go on this ride, the theming was exquisite and really beautiful, it's so sad it's not like this any more. Walking through the queue, hitting the indoor bit with the French woman speaking over the retro graphic of the coaster and how loud it got in the dark corridors just to open up into the space exploration rooms at the very end of the queue, it was such a good ride experience, shame it won't go back
I hear they may be redoing it with the original theme and sea lntegration
Fuck Disney, these IP’s being slapped everywhere can only get them so far.
@@PoseidonEntertainmentI think they meant the Mickey Mouse overhaul, not the original attraction.
Rock'n Roller coaster in Disneyland Paris was also butchered.
You may as well say a ride is ruined because they used a slightly different shade of white to repaint it
I honestly like the retheme for California Screamin' but other than that I completely agree
The original Space Mountain: From The Earth To The Moon sounds like it was amazing; especially since it had the bullet and smoke effects on the outside, so even onlookers would get a little treat. I really wish I could have seen the original version in its glory days.
Last I heard not even the neon lit antenna on top are working. 😢
=)
You might actually. Rumours say that the original theme will be returning in the next couple of years
@@matthewshort4466 Oh, I hope so! Thanks for the info. ; )
if you are talkng about the og california disneyland yeah that was crazy. It was so well themed and everything it really felt more than just a theme park.
@@adsadsdsdsaadssd I was actually talking about OG Disneyland-Paris. (neh EuroDisney) But I still agree. =)
I remember the Defunctland episode on this one. Pretty sad to know what’s become of it, especially when it sounded like an attraction that best suit the saying “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it.”
Also, really appreciate how much content you’ve uploaded the last few weeks!

@@ValleDelSergio I'm devastated 😔 wish i could see the original trip to the moon ride
I think I hate Epcot the most. "The magic of possibility" is not a theme.
@@PoseidonEntertainmentThe Imagination pavilion is a revealing microcosm of the state of the parks.
@@PoseidonEntertainment I agree! Epcot Center from the 80’s was a great and more adult park, totally diferent from Magic Kingdom. I was a huge fan! Now is a theming nightmare.
@Mr17051963 oh I absolutely agree!
Ooh yes a video about the most butchered Disney attraction
That would be journey into imagination
@@Nickelodeon_5_1_9I'd argue this one was butchered up way worse than journey into imagination
Mission breakout exists
Okay that's true, but it's a close call.
Babe wake up, new Poseidon Entertainment video is up
When I was little I was deathly afraid of this ride because it went upside down and was in the dark.
I don’t think it goes upside down
@@NCTStudio I promise you it does....twice
@NCTStudio Space mountain at Paris has 3 inversions. A corkscrew, sidewinder and a cutback. Also tallest and fastest space mountain.
This was one of my favorite attraction as a child and i still hope this version will come back.
The minute they announce the star wars retheme is being canned, I'll instantly book another trip
I never knew about the “A trip to the moon” connection with this ride. The cannon makes a lot more sense now.
I did notice that this park is not nearly as well documented as the U.S. parks. Even the opening day presentation has very little to see.
Am honestly disturbed how many attractions use screens nowadays
Low res crappy screens hooraayyyy
There’s a really good recreation of the first iteration on no limits 2. Always good to go back and see how great it was!
I had the opportunity to ride the original space mountain as a kid. I'm still nostalgic 20 years later.
I took this attraction two weeks ago and already felt something was off, because of the design of the building.Thank you for the video. 🙂
Original footage of the queue and the ride itself will never do it justice. I'm sad ill never experience it they way it was intended in person. Luckily, there's some cool reconstructions by fans online.
I agree completely. I remember the first version with the smoke , the moving parts during launch. Every "update" made it worse.....and now.? Well ...
Superb video, I agree with your opinion.
It really doesn't look exciting at all. I found Disneyland's Hyperspace Mountain overlay just kind of okay, but even that does a lot more than this.
My unpopular opinion is that star wars and marvel DONT belong in the parks. Put it in the studios or something but i just cant get behind it
I absolutely LOVE seeing my favourite creators covering DLP. More please - it's an amazing place with so much history and drama!
I was a young Jules Verne fan before Steampunk became cool 😂, and when I was a child I loved Discoveryland and Space Mountain so much. I was so sad for the Star Wars version... I love Star Wars, but not in my golden Space Mountain.
Everyone: surely, Disney could not screw up Space Mountain Disneyland Paris? Disney: Hold my Charrdonay, let's shove the Star Wars IP into it! Genius.
I PRAY you will see this. I make these requests to every single big Disney documentary makers. You should make a story on the history of Disneyland Trading Pins.
From their Iconic start in Epcot in 2000 to today’s massive trading in parks and pin trade events going on since then.
I can't say that I find pin trading very interesting. Other people have already covered it pretty extensively too.
That would be great
That advert for space mountain was on my Lion King VHS and man, that short little ad gives me chills now EVERY time
ME TOO and when I got to ride it, it was like a dream come true.
They finally got to, and after such a short run, it gets the Star Wars treatment.
so glad this is returning next year im so happy it's insane
I remember going to Disneyland Paris when I was like 4, (so original space mountain) I wanted to go onto Space Mountain and was jealous my Dad went on it. I've still never been on it and never will because of Star Wars overlay, so I could never appreciate what it was supposed to be ! 😢 Love your videos keep it going ❤
The music was AMAZING....I have it on a playlist...💙💙💙💙
As a fan of steampunk aesthetic, what they did to Space Mountain enrages me!
I think the OG star tours was better too tbh than the new one!
The biggest pro gamer move they could do but choose not to for some reason:
- Revive any of the Jules Verne IPs they have worked on in the past and restore all the themed rides for new and old generations to discover again.
Compliments from the Kingdom of the Netherlands! 🇳🇱
@@thegixlad27 “Newest” I guess. Seems crazy that they redid the trains and kept the the steampunk theme but still kept the Star Wars overlay.
@@PoseidonEntertainment true. Perhaps the last fork in the road to a truly successful Disney was when they booted Lasseter out
That ride looks fast! Also, the music in that advertisement was actually music from the Alton Towers black hole… I’d love a video on UK theme parks. Especially the old and new dark rides.
I wouldn't have known that it was the same music. Do you know what the track is called? Black Hole looks interesting but it would be difficult to do a video on because there's not really any good footage of it out there.
i still remember that space mountain vhs ad, it scared me as a child
I’m sure I’ve asked this before, but would you ever consider an episode on hyper-themed chain restaurants? Stuff like Rainforest Cafe, Hard Rock Cafe, and Planet Hollywood instantly comes to mind when thinking about destination theme park level experiences without having to travel to Florida or California. Especially interested to hear your thought on Rainforest since it’s essentially like eating in a dark ride show building.
Funny how Europa Park picked up another idea with Cancan Coaster and somehow revived it.
I never knew about this. The Jules Verne theming was a brilliant idea. Now I'm even more disgusted with Disney.
Glad you mentioned mission breakout, because I thought the same damn thing when I road it.
You could take out the GotG and nothing would change lol.
Super awesome video. I really enjoyed it, and it genuinely sucks to see Space Mountain being treated like this.
I cannot believe that they scrapped this beautiful Jules Verne inspired ride for a Star Wars theme....
so glad you agree that cosmic rewind is "space mountain 2" because that's exactly what I said getting off for the first time LOL
I was there last September and the ride was down for refurbishment, honestly kinda glad it was cause I was hoping for the jules verne version
I keep seeing the "rumor" that at least Mission 2 will come back, but it seems more hopeful than anything.
I love hearing about Disneyland stuff ❤❤❤❤
I haven’t been back to Disneyland in over 15 years and never plan on returning.
can we have something that ISNT Star Wars? enough is enough.
5:38 "The Nautilus would contain an underwater restaurant"
Ah yes, I would love to finally try Captain Nemo's famous pudding, made from octopus fetuses.
😂😂😂😂🤮🤮🤮🤮
It's all seafood, no exceptions.
Fun little fact:
The advert for Space Mountain From The Earth To The Moon actually uses music composed for Alton Towers’ Black Hole
So sad that Disneyland Paris haven’t followed the original plan of the Jules Vernes “land” foreseen by Eurodisney…
It was sooo beautiful when this section opened !
An expansion for the land to bring more of "Discovery Bay" into it would have been a great way to keep it fresh over the years. Too bad it exists as it does today.
I legitmatley cannot fathom what the brain-dead executive who ordered the redesign was smoking. The design is the DEFINITION of timeless; Disney Star Wars is not
Just read DLP's book on Space Mountain. They ended the book by calling the Star Wars overlay a "natural evolution from Mission 2". They´re deluded.
I remember when Defunctland did an episode on this, it seems a shame that it was gone to make room for IP.
I managed to ride the original, and it was amazing! Such a shame to see what has happened to it. I hope that they sort this
I can't lie as sad as this may sound, I like the star wars theming as I grew up with star wars, the star wars theme also got me over my fear of rollercoasters as it made me want to try it
At this point it's more Star Wars land than Discoveryland. I don't care about Star Wars. I'm sick of the original ideas being eroded in favour of cheap and lazy IPs on everything.
So true. Bring back space mountain please disney
i am very glad i got to experience the jules verne era of the discoveryland
Did you ever hear the tragedy of Space Mountain The Wise? I thought not. It's not a story the Iger era executives would tell you
Eh, someone already made this joke
Yeah they really ruined this. The cannon doesn't even fire anymore, which is such a shame, it was so cool to watch. I don't even bother with this ride any more when I go, it lost all it's charm for me.
The only good part of the overlay was the new vest restraints, and that was the only part of the update that was still in the Jules Verne theme
