UNICEF Helps Midwives Save Lives in Sudan

Well-trained and well-equipped midwives help pregnant women deliver safely, reducing deaths among mothers and their newborns. Working with Sudan's Ministry of Health, UNICEF provides child and maternity care services including midwife training and birthing equipment.
"It's difficult to describe my emotions because this is the profession I've wanted since I was a child," says Amira Khameis, a midwife in Khartoum. "Thank you so much for providing the birthing kit. I feel a sense of relief when I am able to save two lives. I thank God for the opportunity to work in a profession when I can save lives."
