Tebaldi divina e fenomenale.
Whoever said Tebaldi can't act was dead wrong. Her acting as Madame Butterfly is spot on. Her singing is heavenly. She owned Madame Butterfly. I think that Puccini had her in mind when he wrote it, even though they were not contemporaries. She is the ideal Cio Cio San.

A Traviata performance in Mexico 1952 was aired on TV at that time but it was lost. She filmed an abbreviated act 2 Tosca in 1956 with George London, and the famous full act 2 with Gobbi in 1964. That's all. She never believed in filming opera, she always declined and said opera should be experienced in the opera house. Zeffirelli tried to convince her to make a Tosca film after the 1964 studio recording but she was reluctant and it never happened.
@@Khalid7a There was apparently also a telecast of La Sonnambula (just Act One) from La Scala in 1955, but nobody seems to have preserved a kinescope or whatever they were called at that moment.

Renata Tebaldi è la migliore " interprete" di Madama Butterfly.
Does anyone else realize that when the boy is closest to her it is necessary to cover his ears? Perhaps because of the strength of Tebaldi's voice.

@@vincec8218 Why? She has a nice voice but sings very "girlish"/like a student. Why bring her up here?

A true artist! When I play Madama Butterfly, the natural stage movements and the elegance of Renata Tebaldi are always great lessons for me
A voice like we will never hear again-the beauty and the power combined. ❤
