Sylvan Lake had one that sounded at noon and 10pm. I spent every summer there at our cabin, growing up in the '70s and '80s. There was actually a curfew for kids under 18, which the 10pm siren made all us kids aware of.
Deer Lake, NL has an actual Air Raid siren sitting on top of the Power House...which goes off at 7 am, 8 am, noon, 1 pm, 5pm, and 6 pm every day except Sunday.
I grew up in Calgary and I still remember the old air raid siren being taken down and removed from the corner of the elementary school yard in the 90s. It was one of the big bullhorn types and I don’t think I ever heard it go off. I think I probably would’ve been terrified if it did, even for a test.
The small Northern Ontario town I grew up in had a huge air raid siren on the top of the town hall. They would contact everyone before a regular test was done so people weren’t afraid the Russians were coming. We only had a volunteer fire department. It had a code of horn blows that told the firemen where the fire was and they drove there in their own vehicles. There was always a man in the station so they could broadcast the location code and drive the main engine to the scene. You just can’t beat the closeness of growing up in a small remote town! 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦
I grew up in a small town in British Columbia and as far as I know to this day they still sound the fire sirens On Monday nights at 7:00 PM for something called "fire practice" which is basically the volunteer fire department gets together does some training and then drinks beer.
The Sirens In The Video Are Canadian Model 2s, Fedelcode Model 2s, & Then The One In Thorston Is A GCS Model 3, & The One That Looked Like It Was In Holden Was A Conetop Version Of A Sterling 2V8. Also, The Rotational One Is Called A CLM (Canadian Line Materials) Rotational Siren.
I really wish these sirens are preserved, maybe not used for noon-blasts, but monthly tests or slightly more in the winter, so it's a bit less of a disturbance. I believe they're still very important for any potential alerts because not everyone has a phone.
There is a company called “CLM” which is a Canadian Siren brand. Most of Canada used Federal Signal Model 2, Model 5, and CLM Rotational sirens. I would indeed enjoy hearing this siren as I have never before. Canada CLM Sirens are very rare and famous.
There was one in Oakville, which was a small town once. Went off about 11 p.m. and it was around 2 a.m. before they found out from the Canadian Armed Forces how to shut it off.
Grew up in Lethbridge Alberta in the late 50's and 60's and air raid siren sounded at 9:15 am, kids need to be in school, 12:00 lunch, and 9:15 pm curfew for kids 16 and under. They should keep sirens. Think Maui fires.
