    Ranger Johnson is big on getting urban children interested in our wilderness areas. he does wonderful work and is one of the true heroes of our time in representing our last truly wild and undeveloped places so well and with such passion. we need more like him to help us preserve our wild spaces.

    We need to inform our children, our scholars, our students on this rich history. Powerful information to know.

    I admire Ranger Johnson's passion for which he speaks. I am regretful I never crossed paths with him during my trips to Yosemite.

    What a great speaker! I know that he is a busy ranger and that there are other knowledgeable rangers working at Yosemite, but nonetheless I would still like to see more of him.

    I so appreciate your enthusiasm for people of color to connect to our National Parks. I tell so many people about your letter to Oprah. I wished so hard that the episode they did in response would convey and motivate that connection you clearly envision. God Bless you and keep you! I will always tell people to look you up!

    Mr. Johnson, one thing about your narrative that ties my interest is not only your obvious love of the land but your love of people. My skin tone tends toward the white/pink (lineage German/Hebrew) and all of my friends are a thorough mixture of Japanese, Chinese, Russian, African American, Hispanic, Korean, Indian etc... Because time erodes blood as it does stone, I'm not sure of our whole mixture. When I refer to 'friends' I mean just that: there is NO racial stress among any of us. We are Witnesses, Jehovah's Witnesses. We love and appreciate this earth our home as we do each other. All this is possible because of our love and immense appreciation for our Great Almighty God, the Great Potter who made all these things--and us. He will also correct the mess man has inflicted on our home! Revelation 21! Thank you so much. . .

      brooklyn ad you are in for a jaw dropping experience! Yosemite is truly one of the most beautiful places your eyes will ever stare at. I think the number one first reaction is speechlessness. hopefully glacier point road and tioga road are open for you by then with all the snow from this winter.

    I'm staying in groveland the first week of April. can we still get access to the Yosemite Valley?

    • @YosemiteNPS
      @YosemiteNPS  7 лет назад +1

      The Big Oak Flat Road will be closed this week. You can get to Yosemite Valley by taking Highway 49 to Mariposa, then Highway 140 to Yosemite Valley.

    Ranger Johnson succeeded in bringing Oprah (and Gayle) to Yosemite. They did a program about the trip. What was disappointing was that they seemed to treat Yosemite as three-dimensional wallpaper, a backdrop for them at a cushy campsite. Did Oprah and Gayle actually do some hiking? Maybe the steep sections of the Mist Trail would have been too much for them. Can't imagine O and G roughing it in a tent.

    I've seen the nicest comments on these Yosemite videos. Probably because no 13 year old wants to learn about nature.
