It's awesome how you two can cram so much pertinent info, such detail, into a 19-20 minute video. I'm proud for and of you! I'd just turned 11 a few days before they caught Berkowitz, and even in northeastern Kentucky, the spree had been covered on local TV news. It wasn't until years later with the Waco ATF/Branch Davidians coverage, that local news began each broadcast with the latest update like they did with Berkowitz.

I grew up on LI in Levittown and was in jr. high myself when the Kasso story broke. I know plenty about it these days, have read up on it extensively. I have been
up in Northport a lot the past five years or so, also. It's a very lovely area, nice town, very lovely summer destination. The whole Satanic metal bullshit angle
got blown beyond out of proportion after that case, what happened was you had a bunch of kids who were outcasts and abused and homeless (nearly),
and Kasso was a minor drug dealer and fuck up and basically his brain was rotting out, and they were all wacked out on heavy drugs and that led to him
killing this ex friend of theirs in the woods. A lot of kids then listened to metal, who gives a darn? I did, too. I didn't do meth acid and heroin and go kill
my friend. Fun fact: Jack Kerouac lived in Northport in a few different homes over several years in the 60s, and apparently he really enjoyed the place.

Another great video! I remember that year well. My dad was a cop in the Bronx during that time. Besides Son of Sam, the city has the huge blackout with riots. At least the Yankees won the World Series in the fall. Happy Halloween!

Such a good job you do on these vids..they are really mini documentaries. So well done. I lived in NY all my life and remember how terrified everyone was when this was going on. It's funny to hear how heavy all the NY accents are in the live interviews with people. You don't hear that as much these days.

Welcome to New York, GrimmLife! I remember this well....we would come straight from school and weren't allowed to be outside once it turned dusk. Very scary times. So cool that you covered "Son of Sam." Thanx for doing such a great job in the details and the areas/footage. Stay safe. Peace....Happy Halloween!

My mom lived near where he was killing in Mineola. She said they were always so scared and she thought her neighbor was the Son of Sam once, because he was throwing pebbles at the sewer drain, during a thunderstorm lol.

I grew up in Levittown LI and really we weren't near where he was killing, except he did do a few of the shootings in Queens, Forest Hills Gardens (2x) and then
in Bayside. The fear was that the killer would show up in Nassau or Suffolk next. I do recall everybody being terrified of this at the time, riled up by the media.
But I was all of eight when this was going on. A lot of people on my street were nervous that he would strike next out on LI. Unless that guy was shooting bullets
from his .44 at the drain, I doubt he was Son of Sam material! LOL

@@Leash23 Gotcha, Valley Stream. Well, if you consider the shootings he did in Forest Hills Gardens and Bayside LI, he did in fact come out "east" a bit.
