Will the independents and people like Mr Feinstein burst through in the next election, and maybe start the revolution so many look for. I was impressed with what Mr Feinstein said, but the weight of abusive politics will be against him, so lets hope he can survive.

@@irwindennis9688 I take your point, and acknowledge that mine is a controversial one. But it is informed by a long-held belief that the universal and unquestioning reverence (if understandable) for Mandela wasn't just unfair to other liberation heroes but probably caused him to adopt disastrous policies.
Let's take the unfairness of it. On an issue as moral as apartheid, you judge people's heroism by the sacrifice they made. Yes, in Mandela's case, it was very personal, for as he himself once acknowledged, he was never able to (re)connect with his family even long after his release. But at the risk of diminishing it, his white comrades could have chosen silence in return for lucrative careers and comfortable lives but made a conscious choice to join the struggle. Yet, few (like Feinstein's parents) have been acknowledged.
As for disastrous policies, he failed to take HIV/Aids seriously until the loss of his own adult son forced his hand, by which time hundreds of thousands had died needlessly. He also could have used his moral authority to reduce the industrial-scale corruption that has left ordinary people in misery and despair to this day.
To be sure, none of this is to suggest he wasn't a hero. It's only meant to put his heroism in context.

@@akpanekpo6025 Quite frankly you still don't make any sense. I have already stated that Apartheid went from 1652-1990. Obviously Mandela was an important man but how could he simply reverse every indignant evil that had been instigated by racist oppressors in the short life he had after 27 years of captivity. Their are many heroes who tried to change things like Steve Biko who paid the price with his life. Obviously more needs to be done and Feinstein is part of that. If you haven't noticed the Black humans have suffered the worst holocausts fulls stop for centuries with under the direction of western imperialism. Stop blaming Mandela for your own short-sightedness.
