The Best Kept Secret in Rishikesh, India! 🇮🇳 (Vasishtha Cave Temple)

  • Today we visit our favorite little known location in Rishikesh, India. It is known as Vasishtha Gufa, or Vasishtha's Cave Temple and is an extremely peaceful place for one to meditate, bathe in the Ganga and escape the busier side of Rishikesh. It is roughly 30 minutes north of Tapovan. Please note that this is a sacred pilgrimage site for Lord Rama's guru, Sage Vasishtha and for those who seek to visit, no photography is allowed inside the cave, and proper attire is required. Hope you enjoy this video!

Great to know that. Since you'll be in Rishikesh, look at the possibility of visiting Haridwar which is an hour away. You can go in a shared auto rickshaw. They normally charge between 60 to 100 rupees per person depending on where you catch them. If you're in Tapovan, probably a 100. If your down in the market area (downtown Rishikesh) on the main road, about 60 per person. Don't get scammed. Look into Varanasi, Amritsar, Jaipur, Udaipur, Jaislmer, Jodhpur, etc....@@drabofficial

I have to say that the Vasishta cave and that whole area is in my top 3 of most powerful and peaceful places that I have visited, along with Mount Kailash and Arunachala, where Ramana Maharshi's ashram is. Many people know about the Ramayana but very few know about what Vasishta taught Lord Rama in the book called Yoga Vasishta. It is the most profound book that I have read, with almost 30 000 verses!

5:00 Thats something that happens to me too all the time when I'm in India and visiting holy places.
I "coincidentally" land up visiting shrines and places that are related to my Guru Parampara. Its as if my Guru and my Guru Mangala are actively guiding me to knowledge and to places related to my path. It really does happen that you "automatically" are guided to everything you need on your spiritual path. ❤ 🕉🚩🙏🏻

Inside the Vasishta Gufa i did chanting Hare Krsna mantra for 10 mins. It was very unique feeling meditating in the cave because usually when i meditate, mind always distract me. Here while meditating in this cave I absolutely had no distractions from mind and every thought of mine was able to travel without any disturbance. Just imagine meditating under tons of huge rocks , they are certainly special.

Jay Shri Rama! From a while before the pran pratishtha I've been watching videos on RUclips about Ayodhya. Yesterday I watched your video on your Ayodhya visit. This morning I went to your channel and was pleasantly surprised to see this little gem!
Vasishtha Guha has a special place in my life as it is directly linked to my guru parampara. I grew up in the Ramakrishna Centre of South Africa from before it was officially affiliated to the Ramakrishna Mission. The founder of the Ramakrishna Centre of SA was influenced by the teachings of Shri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother and Swami Vivekananda and went to India to join the Ramakrishna Mission where he stayed and studied for some time. However due to apartheid there were no links between India and South Africa and to take sanyas in the order he was required to cutoff ties with SA. This was unacceptable to him as he wanted to come back and serve the community. He proceeded to Vasishtha Guha where he took sanyas from Swami Purushottamananda (he had already taken brahmacharya from the Mission) who as you know was a disciple of Swami Brahmananda (whose tithi birthday was yesterday 🙂) and where he spent some time. His disciple was Swami Shivapadananda who was my guru...
Growing up I had heard much about "The Cave" from Swami Shivapadananda, other devotees (including my parents) who had visited several times as well as from my sanskrit teacher Swami Tribhuwan (also a disciple of Swami Shivapadananda) who had studied for several years at Kailash Ashram and had spent alot of time (and stayed several years later) at Vasishtha Guha. Some of the stories are about the spiritual atmosphere which was such that even wild animals would be calm in the vacinity. At the time when Swami Purushottamananda was living alone there wild animals like tigers etc would often pass by/spend some time there and leave without disturbing him! So no need to be worried about the monkeys 😁
I have been to The Cave a few times and it has changed alot! It used to be even quieter before! I remember the first time I was going we had taken a car from Haridwar and the driver didn't even know where we were going! The atmosphere though is really amazing even now that it is busier (from what I have heard - haven't been in a while)...
I was also surprised to hear that you are associated with the Ramakrishna Mission so we may be on different branches of the same tree!
Love how you take little Narayan around! Is he always so calm/quiet?!
