"Shot In the Dark is a really important track. It's really important. It is very introspective. It's expressing that you're not perfect and you make A LOT of mistakes. But it's important when you fall off to pull yourself back up again and give it another swing. There is a lot worth fighting for. It is worth fighting for." -Dan Layus
Dan is undoubtably on of the super underated singer/songwriters around. Its a shame when folks with this type of vision and raw emotional sensitivity aren't getting far more recognition. Dan is skirting Bruce Springsteen's turf, and walking on Jackson Browne's rancho so politely and humble its truly astonishing.
Man Augustana never gets old, I just love them. I've heard every single one of their albums, and I'm glad to find that Dan sticks to his style and doesn't produce music for the mainstream. All my respect goes out to the guys from Augustana for being loyal to their music and not going for the cash like many other bands do. Thanks, Augustana!
Dan Layus is extraordinarily talented and incredibly underrated. This is one of my favourite acoustic performances ever. If you haven't bought their CD you need to go out right now and get it. You won't regret it. Go see them in Poughkeepsie NY on August 14, 2011.
@nhayep2 the band has in it David Lamoureux(earlier band member) in place of John Vincent (who left for reason unsaid) on Keyboards, Jared Palomar,bassist, Chris Sachtleben,lead guitarist, Dan Layus, guitarist vocals piano, Justin South,drums,. and their working with that guy on the steel pedal guitar
In my opinion Dan has the best vocals of any artist today. For w/e reason he doesnt get near the amount of recognition he deserves which kinda makes me frustrated...
I think David Lamoureux is currently playing with Augustana.in the wake of John Vincent's abrupt departure. This was taped in Feb. 2011, maybe the reason David is playing with Dan is that John had just split. Anyway I'm pleased David is back with Dan. Obviously from this gig, he's a tremendously talented pianist....5/10/2011
Stumptown is a local beer, Ain't Dan great! David Lamoureux since this session is back with Augustans and playing his heart out - sounds like Chris Martin's piano from time to time...
@leapsandchances john rzeznik has a very unique voice..i don't like chris martin's songwriting but he has a good voice..hopefully augustana will get the recognition that they deserve.
@guitarobsessed85 Well these songs are popular, that's true, but I wouldn't consider them mainstream as they totally fit to their style. These are still true Augustana songs, you can hear their personal touch and feel their spirit for making music in them. It's more like the mainstream picked those songs up, but it wasn't Dan who produce those songs for the mainstream. I'm a huge fan of them as well! Dan really has got something unique in his voice which I love. =)
@notkroqer2 He's definitely got some of the best. There's also some other amazing vocalists out there though. Aaron Lewis(Staind), Alejandro(Boyce Avenue), Chris Martin(Coldplay), Brandon Flowers(The Killers), Rob Thomas, Brian McKnight, and John Rzeznik(Goo Goo Dolls) are a few of my favorites.

One of the best songs - should have been on every major radio station when it came out!
it's 2020 and i am still listening...

Always find my way back to this

I've been chain smoking this album for a month now. Love it! Dan's vocals are so good and I love the writing.
Im wondering who is the idiot one disliking this great performance??
2:30 - 2:35 is incredible. How does a melody like that come about?

Dan's voice in the beginning is freakin' deep! I did not expect that!
Flawless.
HES AMAZING AND HIS WHOLE BAND !
I love these shows because fans don't ruin the song by screaming as loud as they can constantly and going crazy during the entire show.
Awesome song and really good album. Glad I stumbled across it on Rhapsody.
@nhayep2 yourwelcome! cant wait for the new album coming out next week!
im so inlove with him.. I saw him at the paramount in huntington NY... I was literally a foot away from him.. so amazing
One of the best acoustic performances ive seen. The only thing I would change about it is I would make it last all day.
Dan is so talented!
In my opinion Dan has the best vocals of any artist today. For w/e reason he doesnt get near the amount of recognition he deserves which kinda makes me frustrated...
Sweet song
i love you guys! :D
set to 1080p - enjoy (nearly) 5minutes of pure musical genius

BradWingQuay - you can score this album titled "Augustana" released on April 26, 2011 on Amazon.com @ $9.99 in MP3
@nhayep2 i forgot to mention theres another guitarist thats been helping but i forgot his name
Stumptown is a local beer, Ain't Dan great! David Lamoureux since this session is back with Augustans and playing his heart out - sounds like Chris Martin's piano from time to time...
come to asiaaaa we need you ='(!!! no love for us
Wish they had recorded this version and included it on the album. So much better than the studio version.
I prefer this to the studio version :D I love them both but this one more, they should bring out an acoustic album xD
@notkroqer2 totally agree with you
@notkroqer2 Amen to that!
@ShannonQT85 how come John left?? didnt David leave before him?
@leapsandchances You forgot about David Gray! =p
1:00
@ellohihi Yeah David left before John. Not sure why John left recently...the band hasn't really addressed it and given a reason for it
@leapsandchances john rzeznik has a very unique voice..i don't like chris martin's songwriting but he has a good voice..hopefully augustana will get the recognition that they deserve.

@ShannonQT85 ohh alright cuz i havnt like that was just kinda unexpected for John to leavee
i find this song even better than the original!
dan is so fucking classy.
@notkroqer2 That I did...
@notkroqer2 ditto
@jacknationsmusicyay Ah well. In my opinion he does..but what do I know :)
he sounds cute when he speaks! haha
@AugustanaLyrics1 i know they shouldd they make all their songs so much better on acoustic
Dan has a smexy voice
Wait, so John is out of the band forever? That freakin' sucks! What about Chris?
acoustic version > studio version
@jacknationsmusicyay Fame has absolutely nothing to do with talent.
Please do not ever say that again.
