Having lived in both Mumbai and Thane, I'd say Thane gives you way more value for money than Mumbai, more space, and the advantages of gated community living. The older Mumbai suburbs of Bandra, Khar, and Santa Cruz are now as expensive if not more expensive than some areas in South Mumbai and far beyond the reach of most. Redeveloped plots in these areas are going at Rs. 1 lakh per square foot in places like Pali HIll.

I kind of think sometimes that in childhood, the people who we thought speak english, drive cars must be very rich. And here, when we grow up, we see that these people are living in rented apartments. Means no offence to anyone but like after all the studies and hardwork and getting a good job, people still are just able to survive, live on rent, and not have many luxuries. And still having bad roads, live near sewage lines, means what kind of cities are we developing. In these areas having crores of flats, can't we even expect good roads, good greenery, ample space. Even after doing so much hardwork, the end result doesn't seems good. I think living in villages or small towns are much better than living in Mumbai.
What kind of world have we made this... whats going to happen for future generations. Looks like just being able to rent a home in Mumbai will be a luxury for many future generations. Buying homes will only be reserved for billionaires.

The infrastructure here is very good if you compare it with any of other City areas. The rent for 2 BHK would start above 45k and for 3 BHK 55k ~ 60k.
