I’ll say it again… I adore how this anime has comedy, music, idol parody and emotional stuff. And they do it so well.
I love how they mentioned in this episode that Lily is trans but the focus was still on her and her father. Great character building and storytelling
Edit: also I am not an emotional person. I can count on one hand how often a show or movie made me cry… but this…even made me cry

So for some etymology. Masao Go translates roughly to _Pure Manly Overpowering Hero_ and her dad's, Takeo Go, is _Overpoweing Indefatigable Manly Hero_
It's why Saki was laughing at the irony.

What a good dad. And Lily is surprisingly mature for being the youngest member(?)
I see your tears and I appreciate that!!!

I love your reactions and I love that you are not holding back your emotions and let yourself cry if you feel like it! Many reactors don’t want to cry in front of the camera and many male reactors want to be “manly” by not crying (which is total bulls… ). So thanks for this awesome reaction!

"At the end of the day I'm happy." Is a great way to describe the feels of this episode. This episode hits like the episode 1 truck. Your thoughts are cool to hear too! Thank you for reacting to this show.

Surprise; it's not just the _literal_ trucks that hit like a truck out of nowhere, with this show!
When you really think about it, Kotaro really wouldn't need to "explain" anything. Like, sure, "Number 6" looks exactly like Hoshikawa Lily, the famous child actress, but that was seven years ago; the real Lily would obviously be 19 at this point and look totally different! Ai and Junko, as well, would be 26 and 54 years old, respectively, and couldn't possibly still look like teenagers. Since no one is going to believe that Kotaro's actually raised the dead somehow (because that's insane and illogical on _several_ levels), the best thing to do is say _nothing_ and let people come to whatever conclusions make sense to them.

The overwhelmingly positive response to Lily when this came out was wonderful. So much so that I forgot how hard this episode hit. I knew what was coming, watching along with you, but I still choked up.

This episode is why Lily is best girl. She is one of the best trans representations i've ever seen in anime. It doesn't MAKE her character, it is just one part of it.
This episode was the episode that cemented her as my favourite girl and she NEVER left that spot.
Also, Lily's backstory is one of those anime moments that send me to tears every time no matter how many times i watch it....and not just tears, it literally makes me cry so much that i can't do anything else for a while (Which is why watching it at university in the middle of class might be a bad idea but who cares)
And that song at the end was so....beautiful. The one way Lily can make up for her mistake of saying "i hate you" as her last words to her father and getting closure for both her and her father, which was really needed for both of them.
Also, this episode truly showcases one of Lily's greatest strenghts which is her maturity. Her experiences as a transfem and her experience in the showbizz make her a surprisingly mature individual. We saw hints of it before, but i'd say this episode truly showcases that and also contrasts it with the fact that she died a child, so she has the brain of a child, meaning that, for all her maturity, she is still as emotional and fragile as a child which is why i find the rest of the group protecting her so much so precious and wholesome.
She is such a wonderfully written character.

Episode 8 is easily one that breaks my heart. Lily easily shot up to one of my faves thanks to this episode and some moments in season 2. But it’s also an episode that the meaning can easily be lost in.
To be put bluntly, Lily is trans. Having been born a guy she’s always loved being a girl and being Lily. Her death was both caused by mental exhaustion and the fear of hitting puberty. While she was a kid she can keep looking girly and combat the hormones her at birth sex gives her. But when puberty hits it would inevitably lead to her body changing and the overtaking of her male hormones. Given the way her dad looks I’m not surprised how much fear she had. At the young age of 12 Lily passed away, leaving her father alone.
You can see the anguish and despair he feels the night he broke the television, even scaring his face the moment he grabbed it and broke down. While he is still heartbroken, Lily’s sing To My Dearest was the message he needed to hear. A song from the heart that fully expresses everything Lily wanted to say to him. A goodbye from his daughter saying she’ll be ok from now on.
This episode really highlights how painful lost is. Even if we don’t wanna think about it, there are people out there grieving the loss of these girls. While Ai and Junko’s deaths are celebrated as those of celebrities who became legend, there are still people out there who’d grieve the loss of the person and not the loss of a celebrity. There very well may be someone out there who grieves one of the girls.
And with that the final thing I’ll say is Lily is the most recent date we’ve heard off. So far we know Junko died in the 1980’s about 30 or so years ago, Sakura and Ai both died in 2010 about 8 years prior to the anime, and Lily passed away a year later in 2011. To add to the tragedy had Lily still been alive she would have turned 18 the year the anime takes place, her father’s job of raising her would have been completed.
Next episode I can say will be a little less heartbreaking now that you’ve hit the big one with Lily. But always good to have tissues when you get caught off guard

One of the reason this anime is great. You learn a lot of japan entertainment industry.
    And we got lily ❤
It's so great to have a character like her approach this way.
You probably dont know (like me the first times) but Masao is a very bold man name. Totaly not cute like lily that why saki laught that hard.

"I didn't sign in for this"
The last song, graving him from behind: "where are you going?"
    "Oh, fuck"
The credit's scenes/images: "and here's were we hit you to almost kill you"
Joke aside, great reaction, man. And don't be shy/embarrassed/mad if you react to something that makes you tear up/cry, that's just means that you are a human and that thing just hit you, that's nothing to laugh about (we do, how ever, love and laugh at people that cried at the same things that we cried)

You can now go back to episode 4 and see that Lily _froze up_ when the onsen trip was mentioned. So small a hint, and yet it was there. Keep in mind since ZLS is an anime-original there were no manga readers to turn for spoilers...

I'm impressed that everyone watching your reactions was able to NOT say anything and spoil this episode! 😂
This was definitely a shocker of an episode when it came out (or whenever someone watches it for the first time)!
So Lily died from the shock of finding a facial hair, and that her heart stopped from the shock (it was also the complications added upon her exhaustion from over-work). This is why her heart is always beating out of her chest when she gets overly excited/anxious about something.

You are the second anime reactor who don't realized that Lily was a guy/boy. I've been watching many anime reactor from different country who react to this anime like from Japan or English speaker. And for the Japanese anime reactor they immediately realized Lily is a boy. The hint are His father call him Masao (Lily's real name), and then Lily got puberty which makes him grow hair on her legs and chin and because he was mentally and physically exhausted plus he had a panic attack when he found out he was growing hair, his heart couldn't take it anymore and he died. That's why his heart often out from his chest like in the previous episode, that's the clue to why he died.
Another hint is Sakura call Lily as Masao-kun. -Kun is used to call a boy, meanwhile -chan to a girl and -san to general people especially if you're not close. Well... -kun can be used to a girl if she's a tomboy and looks like prince, It's same thing actually for a guy called -chan if he doesn't mind it.
Another hint is when Saki and Junko mentioned Lily's junk (his penis)
Oh yeah I remember someone said in another anime reactor's video that Lily is the first transgender character in anime. I don't know this is true or not.

    • @FallenGhoul
      @FallenGhoul 4 месяца назад +8

She’s not persay the first trans character but she’s one of the first to explicitly state it. Other characters are either ambiguous or their trans status is stated outside of the anime/manga. Lily’s point blank leaves nothing up for interpretation or misconception.

@pomelo5241 Okay so like. I'm old enough (and have been part of the community) to have been around when _trap_ was used ironically to describe male cross dressers before the western otaku scene had _otokonoko_ and I gotta say: Lily is isn't. She just trans. She's a trans girl. It's even down to how she says Masao is her deadname. She uses 捨てた "to discard/throw away".
