Best comment I've seen about the big three acappella groups is this---Pentatonix is the student council, VoicePlay are the theater nerds and Home Free is throwing the tailgate party in the parking lot. LOL
I’m at the tailgate party with a case of brew, I secretly am also a nerd (but no one knows) and I have a crush on the President of the Student Council!! 🍺🤓👨🏼🎓
Voiceplay is SUCH a fun rabbit hole to go down!!! Some notable videos to check out are - If I were a rich man/girl - the little mermaid medley - Queen in 5 minutes - Moana medley - my mother told me - boy bands in 5 minutes Their bass voice Geoff Castelucci has his own solo channel as well. Some of his best are - Sixteen Tons - Blackbird - House of the rising sun - far over the misty mountains cold - high and dry Really you can’t miss with anything they do, it’s all top tier stuff!! You’re gonna have a blast ☺️
VoicePlay are the theatre kids of a cappella. They have a lot of this type of videos like "This is Halloween" (highly recommend this one, especially now for Halloween), "Phantom of the Opera", "Queen in 5 minutes" and "The Little Mermaid Medley". The last song was "This is Halloween" from a Nightmare before Christmas, they have covered two more songs of that movie too, "Kidnap the Sandy Claws" and "What's this?"
They are the "theater kids" of acapella. They do more songs from Nightmare Before Christmas, and Geoff Castelucci does a Headless Horseman as well. But DO NOT FORGET to at least watch Once Upon A Dream before Halloween. ...they do cool stuff with it.
As Halloween is right around the corner, I'll suggest you react to Grim Grinning Ghosts by Voice Play and also Voice Play's latest--Hoist the Colors from Pirates of the Caribbean III. I think you'll enjoy both of those covers. And another really great a capella group to check out is Voctave. Voctave is totally different from Home Free, Voice Play, and Pentatonix. There are usually 11 singers in Voctave and they can hit chords and harmonies that are beyond belief. I'd start with Voctave's "Disney Princess Medley" and this will introduce you to the ladies in the group (men sing, too, but it features the ladies) and the "Disney Villains Medley" (which features the men of the group). Then move on to the Great Movie Medley, which is Voctave's tribute to John Williams. And another artist to check out is Peter Hollens. He does some solo work, but often collaborates with other a capella artists. Check out his collaboration with Tim Foust (the bass from Home Free) on "Misty Mountains" from "The Hobbit" and his collaboration with Whitney Avalon on the "Disney Villains Medley" (which is so totally different from Voctave's Disney Villains Medley!!).
Different members in this one, but one of their best. They lost the bearded guy, Earl, last year, and J None, the guy in the black leather jacket joined the Naval Choir this year. Cesar De La Rosa, the guy with the white eye in “Hoist The Colors” is their newest member. He’s damn good so fits right in.
I really like their Queen in 5 Minutes video. Interesting story and amazing vocals from Earl, their tenor at the time. The various a cappella groups don't compete. Their fans might, but the groups themselves are friendly. VoicePlay, The Filharmonic, and Home Free toured together for The Sing-Off Tour back in early 2014. There are a couple Home Free songs arranged by Layne and Geoff and a couple VoicePlay songs arranged by Chris Rupp. Layne even recorded and edited a Home Free video.
I wouldn't call it a whole different level, just a different taste, a different energy, a different take, different arrangements and flavours than Home Free and Pentatonix. They are all incredibly talented, and they attract some of the same yet very different listeners. Great reaction, thanks! 🥰🙏

But the kids throwing the kegger on Saturday show up at church Sunday morning. 😁
VoicePlay does tend to be the theater kids of A Capella....lol.
You need to watch This is Halloween. That is what was at the end of the video,it’s really good.
Seconded. You need to watch this soon. Preferably as a reaction so we can enjoy it for the first time again vicariously LOL.
Yes! Their videos are short plays that are absolutely breath taking..their vocals are insane!

I love how on the edge of your seat you were!! It was like watching an excited kid watching a new movie. Keep up the great reactions.

Check out VoicePlay vs Home Free singing Survivor -- it's a riot!
This was so much fun! And I love that you appreciate the differences all of them bring to the table.

Mini Musicals very often. What would a longer one be like? I know a lot of fans are just waiting. :)
You should try and react to their Disney medleys! They have done medleys from Moana, Frozen and The little mermaid 😍
I highly recommend having subtitles turned on when watching their videos, lots of little jokes/easter eggs
This is interesting i feel like i was watching some show on Broadway.
You can watch the movie Nightmare before Christmas by Tim Burton. That will explain it all.
#TheatreKidsofaCappella. I haven't seen anything of theirs that I haven't just loved or any of Geoffs' covers I truly disliked.
