I love watching you two talking about new yarn and patterns. I feel I cannot keep up with my knitting because I feel I am such a slow knitter. A lot of new pattern and yarn and inspiration from both of you. I love your new lace sweater Naomi, nice color and all. Great point about washing you knits before putting them away. Thank you for another fun Podcast.
I love watching the talk about all the new yarn and their wonderful properties! Another good reason to watch all your woollens in the spring and put them away is that moth larvae love to munch on sweat and dirt on natural fibres - they are more attracted to those kinds of fibres than really clean ones. And moths are active in the warm weather!
I love watching all the new yarn you have and really loved the book suggestions also. I think I’m going to look for that little manual wash machine as unreality don’t enjoy washing my knits by hand. Thank you for the great time with you two. ❤
Naomi, you may not be used to wearing purple but you should wear it more often. That sweater is stunning on you! You two make me want to knit all the things!
Your podcasts are lovely. I always find something I'd love to knit for my next project. I also thought of a book but it's not about knitting but about tapestry. "The Lady and the Unicorn by Tracy Chevalier weaves fact and fiction into a beautiful, timeless, and intriguing literary tapestry.", writes goodreads. The medieval tapestries hang in the Cluny Museum in Paris. About 15 years ago I had finished reading the book just before visiting Paris. As luck would have it our hotel was a short 5 min. walk from the museum. The tapestries were awesome. Even my husband was in awe.
Love the "wearing" items on you both. The summer inspiration is great. I am in Florida so those are my desired knits (unless I am traveling somewhere cooler and for the a/c). I also love that wool is self cleaning but also subscribe to your "but it won't clean salad dressing off itself" wisdom. Since I step on my washed items rolled up in a towel--that's definitely not something I would ever recommend for child care 🤣. I love those travel-friendly blocking wires--then I could not only knit on a shawl while traveling but if it's finished, then block and wear it! What gratification. I do use my 3-ft long ones for not only shawls, but sweater sleeves and bodies as well--especially if I am aggressively blocking. Sending you warm weather vibes from Florida (please take it and send us some cool air!)
Thank you for your kind comments!! We love summer knits so we can keep enjoying our handmade goodies all year round - it's warming up here finally, thank goodness!
Arne and Carlos say you don’t need to wash your woollens that you just need to hang them out in the fresh air before putting them away. Which is better if they are not actually soiled?
Great podcast! Full of great ideas and information. I was looking up patterns and yarn as you talked. I really want to make the Market Bag, the Classic, the Sanctuary, and Super Simple Summer Sweaters. Those were my favorites, and I loved the Antioch blanket too. I just finished Joji's LIghtweight Hipster Shawl, I gave it to my mom for her 86th birthday. It feels so good to finish a project!
thank you!! Glad we could help your knitting queue! What a special present, happy birthday to your mum and agreed - there's nothing like that freshly-finished-projet feeling!
You mention help is available and to get in touch but didn’t mention how. Sometimes I really want to order but I'm not sure about the colours. I always look forward to your podcast, so many beautiful patterns and yarns
we have our contact information on our website, and you can reach us at contact at espacetricot.com! we're always happy to help with colour choices, and thank you for your kind feedback! 🥰 so happy you enjoy it!
Book Recommendations about fiber: "Women's Work: The first 20,000 years" by Elizabeth Wayland Barber, "Fabric" by Victoria Finlay, "The Golden Thread" by Kassia St. Clair, "The Power of Knitting" by Loretta Napoleoni, "The Fabric of Civilization" by Virginia Postrel. I'm currently reading "Worn" by Sofi Thanhauser but haven't finished it yet.
Great episode! I highly recommend “Unraveled”. It was an amazing read. Meiju K-P has some really lovely summer patterns. I have tested a few for her and I am testing a new one right now. 🇨🇦🇫🇮
thanks Leea, we'll check that out! Love Meiju's patterns for sure, we'll take a look at them and see if any would work for our linen yarns when we get our shipment. Happy knitting!
I’m watching this while knitting a Petite Knit Friday Tee in KFO Cotton Merino. Beautiful yarn! I also test knit the Strata Vest by Jacqueline Cieslak in Bio Balance. It took less then two skeins, and I would love to knit with it again.
I really enjoy watching you two! And those pieces you show are so beautiful! But the McVie is one of our favorite! Love the pattern and color too. We would love to collab with you, let us know if you are interested? 😃🥰
Great podcast once again! Some book suggestions for you: - This Golden Fleece by Esther Rutter is fascinating & an easy read - The Secret Lives of Colour by Kassia St Clair retells the stories of how 75 shades came to be, super interesting read.
For books, I'd recommend The Secret Lives of Color! I found about it through the 99% Invisible podcast years ago now. It features little vignettes (a few pages or so) focusing on a specific color shade through a historical and cultural perspective. There are so many colors, it's fascinating! I'l have to give The Perfect Red a read, sounds right up my alley!
I love your shop casts and they really inspire me. Even though I’m in BC I also love shopping with you online. I was surprised that there were 8 commercial breaks in this episode which I don’t remember seeing before. Perhaps a new RUclips “feature”?
Ugh, we're so sorry, not sure we have control over that but we'll look into it! We certainly didn't set that up, thank you for sticking with it anyway and for your kind feedback and support!! -Naomi
Love the podcast. Both the sweaters you were wearing looked great. I too had a lot of commercial breaks which I hadn’t experienced with other Espace Tricot podcast.
Same here. After just over 15 minutes into the podcast and 6 (!) breaks for commercials I gave up and went. I hope that this can be remedied in the future, because this adds up for a podcast of one and a half hour…
I am going to be knitting a project in Knitting for Olive Pure Silk, haven’t knit with a pure silk yarn before. Do you have a preferred method for weaving in ends with silk yarn if knitting in the round and which type of needle do you prefer to use when knitting with silk? Great podcast ladies!
Love this yarn! I've knit it with metal and bamboo needles just based on what I had to hand, I didn't notice a particular difference between the two - it's not a slippery silk so metal needles worked well. I wove in ends by interlacing the end through the bumps of the reverse side of the stitches, for about an inch. Hope this helps! - Naomi
@@EspaceTricotPodcast Thanks Naomi, I’m going to try a swatch with my metal needles. I was wondering if I would have to invest in some bamboo ones. Good to know it’s not a real slippery yarn .
This is going to be my first summer knitting- I don’t love the drapery and rigid properties of cotton and linen and silk- is a blend of cotton and merino yarn is ok for summer knitting? Is it too hot?
Hi, Naomi and Steph. I'm about to finish knitting a large blanket made of 15 skeins of Blue Sky Fibers Sweater Worsted. It will measure, roughly, 5 feet by 6 feet. Do you have any tips for blocking something this large? I had been debating purchasing blocking wires, but not sure how to best approach this. I block all my sweaters, so it's only the size of this project that concerns me. Any thoughts/advice? TIA!
Here are some titles for your library: Worn: a people's history of clothing by Sofi Thanhauser, The Fabric of Civilization: how textiles made the world by Virginia I Postrel, The Golden Thread:how fabric changed history by Kassia St Clair, The secret lives of colour by Katia St Clair.
❤ love your podcast Stephanie I want to knit the cowboy 🤠 sweater love the additions you've made, I would like to knit it for my sister to match boots she has I'm wondering if I were to send you a picture of the boots would you be willing to help me pick out yarn and colors ?? Thank you for considering Barbara
we recommend Juniper Moon Farms Zooey! Several people have used it, including our colleague Amalia - it gives good coverage at the loose gauge, and it's a beautiful textural combination of linen and cotton. We've also used Noro Madara for a woollier feel yet still light with nice silk content.
We're so sorry, we weren't aware this was happening and we will look into it. We did not set up the video to have ads, RUclips does this independently of us and we'll see if we can do anything about it. Thank you for watching!

thank you so much! and yes we didn't get to mentioning unwelcome critters but clean knits deter moths, great point!!
I'm humbled ☺Thank you so much for your kind words! And it's always such a pleasure to watch your podcasts!!
You should definitely come to the Calgary Stampede!

Unravelling Canada: A Knitting Odyssey comes to mind. It’s on my to read list.
Oooh haven't spotted that one yet, thank you!
Beautiful yarns and nice ideas of what to do with them. Makes me wish to live near you

I got The Perfect Red maybe 20+ years ago, and have recommended it to many friends- so glad it is still available!
that's so cool, we hadn't noticed the publication date - yeah it's still a hit!
Hello, great podcast! Your yarn selection is super I have to come see you soon 🤗🤗 I love all the summer favourites you carry. Thanks!

thank you!! looking forward to your visit!!
A wonderful book I just read is “Story Maker” an illustrated book of Knitting, Fibre & Fable by a Canadian Author Alexis Hoy.
One book addition might be, Worn by Sofi Thanhauser. This book was recommended on another podcast I watch…. Junction Mill Cast. Great episode! 😊

Could you post the type of portable washing machine you referenced? Sounds intriguing
it's the Costway portable machine on Amazon :) www.amazon.ca/COSTWAY-Portable-Washing-Capacity-Apartments/dp/B08Z3GD7KN
