    Used equipment is the equivalent to financial russian roulette. I spent $16k on 4 pieces of commercial baking equipment only for three out of 4 units breaking down 3-4 months after buying them. Thankfully the mixer was the one unit that still worked. I was in debt for over 1 1/2 yrs paying them off and back to square 1. It was such a painful experience! Thankfully I have the work ethic of a Clydesdale and busted my hump for the time required to start replacing and upgrading the needed units (sandwich prep station, commercial fridge, oven, merchandiser etc). Now, only new and paid in full, no more risks or chances on buying someone elses headaches. Its definitely HARD but if you truly want it and your products are awesome, your customers will support you!!

    Building mine now in St Pete- we’re already at around $250,000. We’re a gluten-free artisan bread bakery and a destination bakery.

    Bakeries like any other business need your full presents you need to put all your time there hardly any time for yourself. It don’t always work out also it’s hard work for success Good luck.

    What's your advice for a kinky yet trendy bakery starter targeting a wealthy LGBTQ community with good income and reliable purchase power? I'm serious I'm French, black and am a head baker specialising in French bakery, pastry and cake and by experience, I know most black people I know aren't great fun of sweet foods so I'm not gonna be targeting such clientel demography :) Don't laugh, I'm serious - just look at bakery businesses in North Chicago and South Chicago :):):) I'm in London now, but I'm willing to move to North Chicago :)

      I think you can market these types of foods to anyone so go for it! I would look at making UNIQUE flavor profiles that are unlike the "usual" a twist on traditional baked goods and this will market itself.
