01 RSCDS Hunter Valley Branch Part 1 - Australian Winter Schools

In 2020 the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) headquarters was very proactive during the COVID restrictions and prepared a programme of activities under the title “Dance Scottish - A Summer Celebration” with music workshops and dance classes which were recorded so they can also be viewed online after the event. On behalf of the Hunter Valley Branch local teacher Ros McKie prepared one of these classes. It consists of 3 parts: a history of Australian Winter Schools, a musical presentation from the musicians' perspective featuring Chris Duncan and Catherine Strutt, and a new challenging dance suited to COVID times with no touching of hands "Let's Get This Sorted" composed by local dancer Julia Smith and taught by Ros McKie with the assistance of another local dancer, Angus McGregor.
In this first video Ros McKie, a teacher from the Hunter Valley Branch of the RSCDS, explains the origins and history of the Australian Winter School up to the 43rd Winter School in 2018 event hosted by the Hunter Valley Branch.
