I knew a guy that cheffed under GR. He had the highest opinion of him, a great teacher and always happy to answer questions. But 3 things you should never do...not listen, backchat and make the same mistake more than twice. Apparently his various crews love him a lot.

I know a chef who trained under him and said the same thing. The bastard moments on TV were sensationalised for the screen. If you see the UK version of his saving restaurants show it's much calmer

There was a time, according to my friend, when a KP/apprentice at Claridge's was homeless yet always turned up early in clean whites and never said a word of complaint. When GR found out he got his 'people' to find him a bedsit by a tube station, paid his first 3 months rent and deposit and never asked him for a penny. I don't know this guys name but apparently he did very well and now works in a 2 star in London as a Sous.

I used to work in an optical lab making spectacles here in the UK, the pressure to get them out on time and make no mistakes were similar. Our favourite insult wasn’t muppet it was donkey, if you fucked up you were a donkey and the thing you fucked up was donkeyfied.
Gordon had a bad bicycle accident recently, he nearly died, his whole body is black in bruising. His helmet saved his life, he was in hospital over a week.
He complained about the food too.
I saw his massive bruise and Jesus Christ I’m surprised he wasn’t internally bleeding because it was so dark!

Gordon Ramsay is great - he's savage because he's passionate about food and seriously cares that the people who make it are the best they can be. And he's excellent at what he does. It's like an army drill sergeant - he shouts and insults his "troops" because he knows that when he's finished they'll be able to rely 100% on what they can do. In the army it could make the difference between life and death; in the kitchen it could mean the difference between a successful and failed career. You should check out the original British series of "Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares".
I think all Chef Ramsay's kitchens must be soundproof; imagine dining while Ramsay goes berserk in the next room!

Don’t know if you’re aware of this King Boomer, but Chef Ramsey started his working life as a professional football player. Playing for my team ‘Glasgow Rangers’. He succumbed to an injury and was let go by the club. He then trained as a chef, and the rest is history.

I think you should look into another British chef, and the very person that trained Gordon Ramsey. Marco Pierre White. He actually made a young Gordon Ramsey cry. You can see a lot of Ramsey's mannerisms in him.
In seriousness though, who the fuck doesn't taste their food while they're cooking it?? It's almost like just grabbing a load of random ingredients, throwing them in a pan and hoping for the best! It doesn't matter how well you think you know how to cook, you ALWAYS taste as you go along to make sure it's as you want it to be! 😂
4:31 Why don't they ever just over state the time? Gordon might be annoyed or just confused but if you just say 5 minutes, knowing that it's gonna be 4 or even 3, then you're gonna pleasantly surprised him. Worst case scenario, It's actually done by the overestimated time that you proposed.
