Imho, Shakira's merit is to have the will, the curiosity to learn other languages...when so many big-time stars never have that open-mindedness and never make the 'effort' to learn another language, to exit their linguistic comfort zone.

As a polyglot myself I can tell that shakira has a gift in languages and she is very fluently while speaking. I also speak 6 languages and now learning my 7 and at times is very hard to switch while you still connected to another. Great job shakira ☺️👍🏻

Nothwithstanding the cliche, you have to love the language you're learning. For example, I speak fluent German, Norsk, and (obviously) English. I have never found learning German difficult because I love doing it. It just depends on your interests, man.
It depends how your school teach you France if it is memorising words then you will forget it eventually you should connect with the culture and history fall in love with the language.
Fall in love with a girl that only speaks French and you'll be fluent in no time. Motivation is sooo important (though talent and a good teacher also help)

This wasn't just knowing a few phrases -- she is fluent in all of those languages. Amazing. Makes it even more embarrassing that I can barely speak more than one.
In your defense, the other 5 she speaks are very closely related Romance languages. They're very similar and you can pick up a lot because so much is shared. English is the oddball here. While the structure and syntax is German, we still have a ton of loan words from our little foray in France in the Hundred Year's War and the fact that England had French kings on the throne before that. About 40-50% of English vocabulary has Latin roots. I'm not saying it's easy. I speak reasonable Spanish and some French, but nothing even close to what she does.
@@kma3647 I think I understand what you say, but a lot of Italian people cannot speak Spanish at all. I am fluent in Spanish, my native language is French. I learned all the parts of the languages: Vocabulary/grammar/Listening dictation
One can speak a language well if he knows the grammar.
My Columbian friend is fluent in English, not a problem, but she cannot make it in French at all.
It’s all about practice. Learn new words daily.
A lot of grammar mistakes, and she only uses the most common words.

Her Italian and Portuguese accent was on spot! Maybe because they're so similar to Spanish.
My family is from Brazil I don't speak Portuguese well but I've been hearing it my whole life. Her accent was spot-on. Don't know enough Italian and French to really judge but it sounded pretty good.
As a Brazilian, I can say that her Portuguese accent was not on spot AT ALL.

@@da-eu My comment has some typos. I didn't say every single language in the video was a Latin language. But most featured in this video are romance languages from the Latin language family. That is Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and French. English is not included. There are many other widely spoken languages in this family like Romanian, Catalan, etc. But it's still amazing to me that she speaks four of them and in these clips, she didn't mix her words at all. From someone who speaks 3 languages and 2 romance languages, I often slip up.

I grew up speaking Spanish, I learned English at the age of 10, and I learned Italian in college because in order for me to enter a Phd. program I had to get a third language. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT. This woman is amazing. I admire her as a singer, I respect her as a language con·nois·seur.

It amazes me that many countries outside the United States teach their children to speak more than their native language. That is a great life skill to have.
Bear in mind, that we actually HAVE to speak a second language if we don't want to be secluded. I'm Danish, and with only 6 million ppl in our tiny country, we're taught English and German (geographical neighbor) in school. When you hit 8th grade you can add French to that.
In Brazil we learn English during middle school and Spanish during High school at public schools. It's not really good, but it shows you the basics and motivates you to keep learning. It's actually necessary if you want to have better opportunities in life
We learn it on school, not because our parents teach it.
As a Dutch guy I learned English, German and French. Some also learned Spanish.
All latam countries have english in their school curricula. And in my country you can not get a bachelors or masters degree unless you have an intermediate english level.
And then some people learn other languages for fun. Like me. I'm having a hard time learning french but is never too late

@@Musicienne-DAB1995 German seemed easy for me after English, and Polish did after Russian and Ukrainian, although I can't say languages are easy for me in general. As for Spanish in particular, I honestly don't know anyone who struggled with it, even when learning with no prior Romance background. And all I know started it as adults (when your brain is not that good at languages at all). Not sure about your personal situation - whether you tried to learn it at least a bit, or maybe it was a bad teacher, or lack of motivation/interest. It's uncommon for me to hear that.

@Isabella AN ofcourse coz she is from Colombia, her native language is spanish, but i meant that she learn to speak portuguese probably in Brazil or her portuguese teacher in Colombia was from Brazil, thats why the accent.
She seems to speak all the romance languages. They are very similar, so its not a big surprise that she speaks 6 languages. I'm probably close to speaking 6 languages myself.
