      Not sure if I missed it but a few kettlebells would add several additional exercises you could do beyond standard dumbbells. The gym looks great though, thanks for the tip on the flooring. We are about to go all the way with a split heating and cooling unit. In Oklahoma it gets like the surface temperature of the sun hot in the summer so even at 5AM it will be REALLY nice to have AC out there.

    Love this! Garage gym project is on our to-do for next summer! Right now, I'm taking up about 1/3 of our living room😂 Also, little mom tip....I keep a set of resistance bands in my car. Whenever we go to the playground, I get as much "pull" work in as possible using the playground equipment and my bands lol. I have no way of doing pull moves at home.

    Would you recommend the stall mats for an indoor gym? My husband and I are expecting our first baby and are building a home gym, & we have been looking at rubber gym rolls which are pricey bc we heard the stall mats have rubber smelling fumes.. does that ever go away in your experience? our room is inside the house and is on the smaller side

    • @AnnieMillerCo

      We never noticed a fume to begin with. But our local supply store also stores them outside so maybe that helped? I’d put them indoors still.

    That opening 😂 love it! In regards to catering to ease of use, putting the fan or music system on something voice activated (I use google home, but I realize this isn’t for everyone), I’m more likely to move straight into my workout when needed. There are cheap plug options that can essentially make anything voice activated and I adore it. Leave a broom in the garage for warm up mobility/movement - works just as well as pvc pipe but you likely already have it lying around.
    The above suggestions aren’t anything wild and that’s because Annie already covered most of my favorite garage gym pieces. 😃
    Great video! Thanks for spending time on it. I hope Coop sees it and gets a laugh on the intro.

    I think rack, barbell, bench, weight plates, weight plate holder and some kind of platform are essential. This way you can do bench, squat, and deadlift which most will agree these are the strongest lifts. Hip thrust has become more popular and I have been doing it too for glute development. Some other pieces I have bought is a 45 degree hyper or back extension which is basically another glute movement. One I am considering is a Nordic ham curl which works the back of legs too using bodyweight.

    I bought bumper plates back in 2017 when I really started building my home gym so I could use them for cleans/snatches. Honestly, I haven't done much of either over the past few years and could get by with just steel plates for the most part.

    • @AnnieMillerCo
      @AnnieMillerCo  3 месяца назад +1

      I am a sucker for bumpers. But I’d say most can get away with iron. I do love bumpers for deadlift however and find them beneficial for those who don’t pull 135 yet. But I get that this is a pretty specific need.

    This is one of the most thorough videos but also combined with some incredible videography. I know you said the barbell is essential, and I'd agree BARBELL IS KING as Coop would too. For those with smaller spaces which can't accommodate a squat rack, but not budgets what would recommend as your top 10 items? Would you still recommend barbells and plates, or would they no longer make the cut

    • @AnnieMillerCo
      @AnnieMillerCo  11 месяцев назад

      Thank you so much! Paige Major is my videographer and editor! She’s awesome. And honestly no. A barbell in the absence of a rack would not make my cut. But a rack and barbell would be in my top 10 items personally. I suppose it depends on how you define “items.” If a single weight plate is ONE item, then no. But if “weight plates” are one item (various sizes and loads) then yes - barbell, rack, plates would be in my top 10.

    Great gym, the only think that took me aback was the pulley system. These ones are very basic and definitely the "bare bones" version. They swing and don't provide ability to move it up and down to unlock all the exercises of a pulley system. Would have expected a proper pulley system considering the price of some of the equipment you have, they are not expensive I think for $300 something dollars you can get a wall mounted one and IMO well worth it. But then again, maybe this one does the job for you guys so power to you 🦾

    • @AnnieMillerCo
      @AnnieMillerCo  Год назад +1

      It’s mainly a space issue. Our main use is vertical pulling variations. So this is great for the value. But a full pulley system is far more versatile for sure!

      I am unsure what the two have to do with one another? IF you’re implying that there’s a connection (ie mooching off a parent in order to pay for gym equipment) I’m happy to clear that up for you.
      My husband and I traveled the world over a two year span and were forced to return home to the states preemptively with the pandemic. So we needed to stay with someone until we found a rental to live in while purchasing land to build our dream home on (part of which you see in this hopefully helpful garage gym tour).

      For me, it’s ease of use/access.
      1. I live in a rainy climate. Easier to get into the garage for some quick steps in whatever I’m wearing vs getting ready to go outside - I also don’t live in a running/walking friendly area/neighborhood. No access.
      2. Walking on an incline is my personal favorite form of cardio and warming up for my lifts. I can get that from a treadmill :)

Ended up investing in a trueform non motorized treadmill because I realized leaving my property open while I go run for extended periods of time was giving me major anxiety (and locking it up each time wasn’t efficient), for a variety of reasons. It has since become one of my favorite pieces of equipment. And I have quite a few lol. Like the lady said, to each each’s own.
