In this video, the crew starts the driveway by pumping a 2" "rat slab". This is done in an effort to support the electric grid that will be laid down next. These coils or heating elements are bright green in the video and they can be seen as they are rolled across the driveway and installed.
The rat slab is about 2" of concrete, it is enough to fill the forms up to the top of the reinforcement grid that has been laid down. Once the crew has completed the rat slab, they go to work on rolling the electric pads out across the driveway, these are the green coils previously described. These are the actual heating element for our new concrete driveway.
The crew rolls these heating pads out one at a time, they take their time installing these mats as one mistake and the driveway will not function properly. So it is important that the electrician test the driveway as it is poured. In this case, the crew has a couple of spare electric mats on hand, just in case one of the mats tested negative during installation.
Once the mat is down the crew pours the additional 2" of concrete that will serve as the surface of the new concrete driveway.

I may be contacting you guys in a couple years to do this for my driveway. Have you ever done sidewalks as well? Typically, the homeowner is responsible for the snow on them.

Sorry it took us awhile to respond. The answer is Yes, we have installed heated sidewalks as well. We'll make sure to make a video of our next heated sidewalk project for certain.
