Great to watch films of the place of my birth in 1944 from where I now live (Sydney) with many experiences in between. Memories: Jumpin aff the South Pintie as a dare. Pinchin a paInters punt to paddle out to the middle of the bay. Heavens the water was caul. Got an immediate headache if you dived straight in! Graham Mitchell
Yes indeed, it goes to show how everything changes through time, and if progress is good then everyone benefits but often our memories cling to the past and our own golden age.
Peterhead became the EU's premier fishing port in the 1980s. With the long strike action by Aberdeen Harbour's stevedores, the city's fish merchants moved to nearby Peterhead and so the harbour trustees built a massive fish market to meet this new demand which gave an enormous boost to the town's fishing industry.
With the deepening of the Bay, Russian Factory ships and large cargo vessels were able to enter and Moore at the Albert Quay, and a visit was made by a Cruise ship and thus the success of Peterhead Harbours and Port became well established.
I had a very long chat with Captain Flett, a very interesting gentleman and native of Portsoy, and was to return to film him and his work as Chief Executive of Peterhead Bay Authority, but unfortunately, I started filming further up the coast and in the Western Islands and so moved on which was a pity as his input would have been of great historic interest today.
Some of it possibly is Andrew and I would have to search through mountains of material to establish that fact. Whatever, every best wishes and thank you for highlighting that point.

Aye interesting when one reaches back through time with the mind's eye.
It’s scary how much it has changed
