      Curious how fast the 40v charger can cool off a hot battery. Cooling must be improved with that loud fan.
      Also, there's a 40v 165mm compound sliding miter saw on Makita's japanese site and a 235mm fan.

    Just a quick note on the chargers amp rating, at 310w it draws about 1.3 amps from 240v. 12 amps is its current output at 18v, 18 x 12 = 216w being pushed to the battery, the rest is lost as heat.

  • @GetRealGreg
    @GetRealGreg 4 года назад +4

    You were a little mixed up when talking about the rated amperage. Yes, it is rated at 12 amps, however, that is in DC (the output of the charger, not the input feeding the charger from your power outlet). The 10 amp circuits you mentioned in your house are in AC. The label on the back of the charger reads (input) 240V(ac) = 310w and (output) 36-40V(dc) = 6 amps and 18V(dc) = 12 amps. For the AC, if you divide the watts (310) by the voltage, say 240 even, that gives you the actual maximum power used by the charger in AC amps (=1.29), so well and truly under the circuit limit of your power point and low enough to not cause any dramas. Really looking forward to seeing your videos on the new 40v range as I'm considering the upgrade from 18v and looking for a decent 'business expense' :) Keep up the good videos mate.

    Brilliant video mate. Really hope you do a vs 40v vs 18v top of the range makita. Undecided weather to up grade to the new 40v 🤔. Its a pain in the arse. We only get the small 2.5 battery in the uk.
    Thanks for sharing looking forward to seeing the next vids 😀

    In their demo videos there's a fan to cool the battery by sucking air through its vents and expelling it through the bottom of the charger, and then a second fan for the charger its self that sucks from the front and blows out the back.

    Plenty of these single chargers on ebay in the UK since the dual battery version was released. I just managed to get one for £30 with the adapter. I use genuine 18v batteries but a Chinese dual charger which takes 2 hrs. Only 40v tools I want is the mitre saw and a chainsaw if they release one.

    Is nobody else annoyed at this 40v system???? For years and years makita have had and pushed the 18v LXT as the only tools you need, one battery does everything etc etc and for the tools that need more juice the do the 2 x 18v battery versions....all of a sudden (cause Dewalt have) they bring out a 40v Max System with all new tools....as someone who has around 18 x 18v Batteries and around 30 makita tools this is highly disappointing....are they going to stop making 18v or Twin 18v tools? I can also bet this is all driven from the accountants aswell!!!!!! Rant Over 😡

    Shit ton... 👍 It is a pity batteries aren't dual volt....just got the dtd171 driver the day before lockdown and would be nice to not have to choose between 18, 36 and 40v circular saws as next purchase

    I wonder if there is a 2x18v adaptor for the 40v tools, or a 40v adaptor for the 36v tools.

    If you have the dual 18V charger and it is not broken keep on using it. You get two batteries charged in approximately the time to charge one on the 40V charger with adapter. The dually is effectively twice as fast!.

      Yes I know. I have the dual and multiple singles. I won't be using the 40 to charge 18v.

    • @ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL

      In the manual for the charger it says 40mins

    • @ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL
      @ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL  4 года назад +2

      The 28min number is to 80% charge. Which is what happens in the video when the blue light goes from flashing to solid.

      It should take about 25 minutes if it is actually delivering 12ah (as stated on the back of the charger). So 38mins is a bit slow (must go really slow towards the end)?

    How is the battery balancing accomplished on the 40v? They don't have any of the aux connections of the 18v, seems like a step back. Balancing 10 cells with only 4 connectors isn't really doable...
