More than 40 years have passed and this episode is still in my mind. It impressed me deeply back then. One of the best TV Shows ever. Thanks for keeping it up. And God bless RUclips.
Great Episode of a great show. The character development still stands up even today. I wish they would have been able to complete the second season of this show. It was popular in US markets so they started working on it, but it morphed itself into Space 1999
I used to watch UFO here in My country in the early 70's...almost 50 years ago its enchant still remains.. R. I. P. to all these actors who are not with us...
This was one of Gerry Andersons best series watched it in the 70's loved it . Still looks good even now , would wear any of Strakers suits today great style .
This is one of the best episodes. I watched this episode on TV when I was a child. If they heard the voice of Colonel Foster, aliens would not have been killed. I was sad.
This episode hit me like a hammer when I saw it as a young child in the 70's on British TV. It taught me some pretty big lessons at the time: that some 'baddies' can actually be 'goodies', and that things can still end badly for a good baddie! It's the only episode I actually remember after 40+ years.
This is the same Alien who just killed Foster's friend. In another episode 'A Question of Priorities' an Alien rebel lands in Ireland and tries to help SHADO. So many great story possibilties cut off after only 26 episodes.
FandersonUfo - I think I'll have to watch UFO as an adult. I'm a massive fan of Blake's 7, and I'd like to think that UFO could give me as much pleasure (although Blake's 7 would be hard to top!). Thanks for these uploads.
My pleasure sir. If you're in the UK I would suggest the new Network Blu-Rays of the complete series. My uploads are fan edits but I do try my best not to disturb the original story lines. I watched it many years ago when I was young and foolish and missed out on a great deal that I can only now appreciate.
IMO UFO topped Blakes 7. There was a 60's film called Beach Red, I'm pretty sure the story line for this UFO episode was taken from it. www.imdb.com/title/tt0061389/
I agree. But also a missed opportunity. Imagine if the Alien had been brought in alive. He could have become a SHADO asset and ally, expanding the scope of the show.
I can see now that this show was very ahead of it's time, particularly for tv scifi. It tackled complex and nuanced themes, and addressed the dilemmas of individual characters, in a way that we didn't start seeing until much later. It was a 'drama' series as much as a 'scifi' series. The general tone reminds me lot of the remake of Battlestar Galactica, which I also recommend highly to anyone who's never seen it.
Speaking of Reimagined Series - they could have dialed "Deus Ex Machina" ...uhm.... "Deus Ex Six & Baltar" down by about 80% to make it bearable in later seasons. Or, at least, s really strip Tricia Helfer ...
I remember seeing this when it first aired in 1970's...whatever, I must have been 9 or 10 and it was so profound and poignant, it still is...it was a powerful episode. Thanks for uploading this memory!
I always thought the sound made by the Moon Mobiles was very spooky and unsettling. I would cover my ears to keep from hearing it. Growing up I loved watching the UFO series!
I loved this series! I played the intro for my children who wanted to know what I watched when I was their ages. Lo and behold I got the entire series (8 DVDs) on 2 sets for Christmas!!! :-)
In 1933 my Dad was 10 and him and a buddy walked 4 or so miles to town to see King Kong that Saturday evening. He said after the movie was over and it was dark they were so scared they RAN home. I got him the VHS. Now that is old tech!
Man, I remember watching some episodes in the 90s, as a kid. I barely remember plots, but stuff like the red alien suits, space ships and sounds I definitely remember.
This was a series designed for an adult audience. Eventually it just got lumped together and forgotten amongst Anderson's many series for younger viewers. Some of the Art direction choices costumes etc. can seem a little far out in hindsight but overall imho a brilliant vision for it's day that rolls by at 25 frames per second gloriously.
@@FandersonUfo I thought this show tackled some very adult themes. It seemed to be as much about the humans and the effect their work had on them as it was about aliens and UFOs. I didn't get it as a kid but I do now.
@@uapuat - Totally concur sir. I know it's easy to see it as a "kids" show today because of the models maybe but the story lines are pretty adult even for now maybe. I think it was Anderson's best series and it's a tragedy that it only lasted a season. Of course they could have ruined it later with a lot of fantastical garbage like the second season of SPACE:1999 as well. Thanks for passing by uapuat. Best regards Fanderson
I watched with my mom in the early 70's . I have the complete series on DVD. Commanders smoke and have a bar in their offices. My favorite would be the underwater group with fishnet uniforms..all quite absurd but loved it when I was a kid
Thank you for posting these episodes from UFO. I recall seeing this series in America as a teen back in the mid-1970's and was blown away by the many ahead-of-their-time concepts that are now staples of many SF shows and movies. This episode in particular left me wondering just how much humanity was left in the supposedly partially lobotomized humans the aliens were using as their tools. The attack on Moonbase was probably directed by alien control emanating from the UFO, and when the UFO was destroyed the remaining human may have been freed from that control. Lots of interesting directions this episode could have gone towards, but the lack or inability of communication between Foster and the 'alien' keeps us speculating.
Mr. Nemo - Although I do like your interpretation of the "Aliens" as lobotomized homo sapiens under the direction of Alien masters that was not what the Andersons intended to portray. This is a humanoid race suffering from genetic decay travelling to earth to harvest human organs to extend their lives. The individual in the red suit is not supposed to homo sapien but Foster does manage to develop an interesting relationship with him on a human to extraterrestrial level. Tragic to have him needlessly killed in the end by a trigger happy poorly trained SHADO operative. He should have been trained to capture an Alien alive if he could? When shot the Alien was not even holding a weapon.
I very respectfully beg to differ with you; in a later episode (EP19 The Cat With Ten Lives ruclips.net/video/71N52WuqSC4/видео.html advance to 23 mins, 45 seconds), Dr. Jackson speculates that the aliens might actually be non-physical, inhabiting the modified human bodies as he put it, like a 'vehicle', as that one of the bodies he had examined was declared to be completely 'normal'. The organ harvesting might actually have been solely for the maintenance of their human 'vehicles' to keep them operable. Which places the motivations of the alien controllers in a whole new perspective.
Good sir thank you very much. I will not dispute your knowledge of the released and therefore canon episodes. Not a favourite of mine the "one with cats" as some will call it. I think the concept of what the Aliens actually are was something that was a work in progress throughout the series. In the first episode 'Identified' one certainly gets the impression that they are a humanoid race seeking human organs for transplant to extend their lives. The musing of Straker at the end of that episode is fairly clear on the subject - Dr. Jackson's later musing on the topic notwithstanding. There was a 5 year series here that only made it to 26 episodes. Hard to say what type of Alien would have evolved eventually. I will doff my cap though to your obvious expertise of UFO. I had completely forgotten that scene with Jackson. Regards FandersonUfo
Hm but decompression doesn't work like that. It would be like a balloon burst - emptying the room in a second or two. Then you'd have a few more seconds to get to a door before you passed out. No hurricane winds.
I was really upset when I first watched this episode as a child. I guess that's a sign of good writing and production when a fictional TV episode can stir a strong emotion. Still not happy watching it now, the alien didn't deserve to die, damn it!

Great story, similar to the SF film Enemy Mine, in which two soldiers in a war, one human, one alien, meet and form a friendship and put aside their differences to survive. Love the fact the whole alien/Foster sequence is dialog free, like the Twilight Zone ep The Invaders. The final twist where his rescuers misunderstand his attempts to explain as a warning... is heart breaking.

The thing that stands out most for this episode was the actor who played the alien, Gito Santana according to imdb. He actually played an alien in 3 episodes. His face is so perfect. Stoic, emotionless, determined. Human but oddly not.
Loved this as a young kid in the 70's. Heartbreaking episode this.. Enemy Mine with Dennis Quiad was certainly influenced by this.. Mind you wasn't there a WW2 film with an American and Japanese surviving on a desert island together?
I know it's common for some shows made by the same people to reuse music from past show, but did anyone notice at 19:39 - 19:44, that the music was a segment of the Mysterons theme from Captain Scarlet whenever the Mysterons are on screen?
@@FandersonUfo I know, I was wondering if anyone else had noticed as a fun thing, since it kind of works, that segment of the Mysterons theme works for the pay off the alien's reveal.
Remember watching this episode when I was about 9 years old and wondering why the alien had to land on the lunar surface then walk 500 yards so he could shoot at a window of moon base with a rifle!
This gives me child flash backs. I had an interceptor die cast toy from this show.. eagle from space 1999..ah to have imagination again of my childhood once more.
Ogar Nogin. Old story, often adapted. This one was good. Enemy Mine was published as Sci Fi in the 50s in Asimov Magazine. There's a chapter like this in Nowlan novella from the 20s (Airlords of Hoth if I recall) and as you said the Lee Marvin picture after WWII.
Mr. Dandy these are edited versions not complete episodes. There is a scene I removed where Foster explains to Straker that a large storm of meteors had been interrupting the tracking network for 3 days. I did not consider that important to the basic story-line I wanted to highlight here. I would encourage any one with a strong interest in the show to purchase the original series from the copyright holders.
FandersonUfo This was groundbreaking television at the time. Thanks for posting. I love the storylines, the futuristic fashions, the music, the characters and especially the vision of the future in 1980 from the perspective of 1970! It has brought back some great memories from my childhood!

I know it's common for some shows made by the same people to reuse music from past show, but did anyone notice at 19:39 - 19:44, that the music was a segment of the Mysterons theme from Captain Scarlet whenever the Mysterons are on screen?
Barry Gray composed the musical scores for Scarlet and UFO. Mr. Gray worked on several of Gerry Anderson's series in the 60's and 70's.
@@FandersonUfo I know, I was wondering if anyone else had noticed as a fun thing, since it kind of works, that segment of the Mysterons theme works for the pay off the alien's reveal.
@@FireStormDel - Barry probably had a lot of fun doing the music for both shows. Best regards Fanderson
Now where did my colander get to!
Why they did not hear the bullet hit the window?
The ship at 03:50 Really reminds me of Disney's Lilo&Stitch's red Spaceship ... I wonder if that was the inspiration for it.
wow,,, re useable space craft,,,,good idea,, ring any bells
AMAZING 💯💥💯💥💯💥💯💥💯💥💯💥
Old Sci fi is awesome lol
Remember watching this episode when I was about 9 years old and wondering why the alien had to land on the lunar surface then walk 500 yards so he could shoot at a window of moon base with a rifle!
Have you ever seen Enemy Mine? Great movie by the way, now I see where they got the idea from
Loved this show and all the hairy chested men!
When I was a kid, I wondered why the aliens didn't get dizzy inside those spinning saucers.
Those where the days.
懐かしい 小学生の頃に見ました.
せっかく友達になれたのに と切なくなった記憶があります。
また見れて嬉しいです、ありがとうございました。
とても悲しい話 - 🛸👽✨
This gives me child flash backs. I had an interceptor die cast toy from this show.. eagle from space 1999..ah to have imagination again of my childhood once more.
Sort of like the movie where Lee Marvin is alone on an island with the Japanese soldier or the movie Enemy Mine . By the way I remember this episode.
Hell In The Pacific, directed by John Boorman.
Ok UFO lands alien then walks miles to moon base when man takes moon hop but still very good

An actual episode even today.
If I were Straker, I would be livid.
How did a UFO GO UNDETECTED by SID and Moonbase?
FandersonUfo Thanks for that information.
FandersonUfo This was groundbreaking television at the time. Thanks for posting. I love the storylines, the futuristic fashions, the music, the characters and especially the vision of the future in 1980 from the perspective of 1970! It has brought back some great memories from my childhood!
Mr. Ordidge - Very glad you enjoyed your time here. Many thanks for your remarks.
excelent
14:11 - when you're so strong, you can push a mountain. But yea, great show anyway...
One bad shot doesn't spoil a whole good show.
Clearly the same - probably London - studio as produced the Thunderbird models! UFOs are go!
